WUBRG Adventures in Kardia GRBUW
An MMORPCCCG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Custom Card Creation Game)
ALWAYS ACCEPTING NEW PLAYERS.
Adventures in Kardia is a freeform roleplaying game that combines classic dungeon game elements with magic the gathering and card creation. Some of you may remember the currently-dormant Atruna game I ran in the Colosseum. This will be like that, but simplified and altered to make it easier for me to run while having a full time job. You will be a creature in an expansive, ever-evolving world. You will wander through the world in search of adventure, mana, treasure, companionship, or whatever else you want. If you're interested, please read the thread thoroughly.

1. Character Creation
To have your character created, please copy and fill the following questionnaire into your first post. Answers need not be long. Based on these answers, I will create your avatar. For the first three questions, please choose among options that already exist in Magic.
What is your race?
What is your class?
What color are you aligned to?
What is your name?
Do you tend to make a big entrance?
Are you a risk taker?
What sort of people tend to be your enemies?
Who sort of people tend to be your allies?
Is the pen mightier than the sword?
Do you believe in love at first sight?
2. How to Play
To put it simply: You post what you do, I post what happens. I will guide you as to what options are available to you, especially when it comes to travel, but it's going to be very freeform. I will have some things set in stone on my end, like the map and some quests and items and characters. The rest will be a fun as-we-go experience.
As you adventure, you will face enemies and obstacles. This is where the custom cards come in. Each non-combat challenge and enemy will have a numerical difficulty assigned to it. You will design one or more custom cards to address the challenge and I will grade each on a scale from 1 to 20 based on two sets of criteria: 1) Does it flavorfully address the challenge at hand? 2) Is it a good, balanced, Magic card? If the total score of your cards (+/- any modifiers) meets or exceeds the challenge difficulty, you succeed. If not, you fail, and might suffer some consequences or have to redo it without your mana being refunded.
Mana is not unlimited. You will start out with some and find plenty of ways to replenish it along your adventures. This is something you will need to keep track of (see The Most Important Rule).
Combat challenges will also be a thing, of course. If you choose to engage in direct combat, your avatar will block or be blocked by the opposing creature, whichever makes more flavorful sense. You can create custom spells in combat, but since combat casting is difficult, there will be some luck here. Your card will be graded 0-10 on quality and balance, then that score will be added with a 4d5 dice roll and any combat mods you have. If the final result is at least 21, the spell is cast. Given the volatility of combat spells, you can queue up to three spells per turn in combat, unless specifically told otherwise. Please specify the conditions under which each should be cast (for example, cast Spell C only if Spell A fails but Spell B succeeds or something like that).
The rules for traveling through the world are as follows: Say where you want to go. You can go anywhere that's discovered, but longer trips are more likely to be interrupted by attacks or events. You also cannot walk through uncharted territory. If you enter a zone that isn't on the map at the bottom of the most recent update, your turn ends there.
Finally, there will be character progression. As you complete challenges and do stuff, you'll gain experience. When you level up, your avatar will improve. Sometimes you will be given options as to how these improvements happen, sometimes you won't. Other abilities will be granted to you until eventually you are a powerful Level 8 champion of the plane.
Some turns will inevitably be more interesting than others. I will do my best to respond quickly enough that you're never waiting for days just to have some NPC tell you a fun fact about the Kardian moon or whatever.
3. The Most Important Rule
Once your character is created, you are in charge of keeping track of and updating your own character's stats, abilities, inventory, quests and anything else worth keeping track of. Please include ALL of your character's basic information in EVERY POST you make in this thread. It might make sense to keep a sort of "log" or "journal," and/or to put all your character info for this game in a spoiler in your signature. Don't cheat and make yourself awesome or rich and hope I won't notice. I'll notice. You'll become very un-awesome and poor as a result.
It's also helpful, if you can say what just happened to you, so I don't have to backtrack and check as much.
4. A Strong Recommendation
Read everything that happens to everyone whenever you have the time. Information that holds true for other people will often hold true for you. Also, how else will you know if someone else is in the same area as you, possibly even doing the same thing?
5. Real/Anticipated FAQ
Can I cast permanent spells? Yes, but they won't be permanent. Each spell exists solely in the context of the challenge it is created for. This isn't to say you won't acquire permanent permanents, but you probably won't cast them yourself.
What if I want to cast a spell to accomplish something that isn't a challenge you gave me? Feel free to do this. If you do, I will treat it as a challenge, choose an appropriate difficulty, and then see if you succeeded.
What are spell mods and when are they applied? A spell mod increases or decreases your card's score against its difficulty check. They are applied whenever a difficulty check is made, so if you cast multiple spells for a single difficulty check, you only get the mod applied once. Since every spell in combat gets an independent difficulty check, those mods apply to each spell.
How do I get mana? Exploration and rewards. Cities don't have as much as the open world.
Can I pool mana with allies to cast spells? Yes, if you have their permission.
I have a lot of weapons. Do all their effects apply? No. Once any player actually does have multiple items of a single type, I will make y'all start bolding your equipped items.
Why are you taking so long to respond to us? Livin' life.
How much can I do in a turn? As much as you want without doing my job for me. Don't feel like you have to give me only one thing to address each turn. If you want to investigate multiple places/objects/people in a turn, do so, just make sure you let me actually tell you what you find. Obviously submitting a card or traveling to an unknown area "ends your turn."
Can I speak for NPCs? Yes, provided that I have spoken as them already, so you know their personality.
Can I make up NPCs I see that you didn't tell me about? Yes, provided its reasonable they'd be there and you don't create too much lore in the process. I make the lore, here.
Can I make up locations you didn't tell us about? You can mention them but you can't go to them. I have a map.
Aaaah, I missed a lot of updates and can't find my last one, what do I do!? Search for your avatar's name in this thread and you can find the last update that mentioned you in no time.
Can I assume that the description you gave someone else for an area is the same description I'd get? Sort of. Things change as you shape the world. If someone solves someone's quest, that person might leave. If someone picks up an object, that object obviously isn't there anymore. But unless it's outright stated somewhere that a thing or person is gone, assume it's still there. New things, however, can pop up unannounced all the time.
MORE TBD AS PEOPLE ASK ME STUFF. IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION, PM IT TO ME. I'M SURE THERE'S A LOT LEFT TO FIGURE OUT.

I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

You begin your journey in the western coastal metropolis of Begrina. Being of all types wander the streets, from beastmasters to rogues to assassins to clerics to warriors to cowards. As you wander the streets you pass a number of notable landmarks you may wish to visit in the future, or even right now if your sense of adventure does not take you out of the city. In the north of the city is a grand cathedral, home to Begrina's faithful. In the west are the bazaar and docks, where adventurers can purchase wares for their journey or even hire safe passage. To the south, you find a boisterous tavern. The east is mostly residential.
Exit routes to the city are: North and South.
You all begin with the following:
Gold: 100
Inventory: Adventurer's Clothes
Abilities: N/A
Current Goals: N/A
Experience: 0/20
Mana: For monocolored avatars: CCCCC, where C is your color. For hybrid avatars: HHH, where H is your hybrid colors.
Remember the most important rule: This is the last time except whenever you level up that I will post your avatar and other information. Be sure to remember to include all the info posted just above here in each post, but updated, obviously. Also repost your avatar each time.
What is your race?: Leonin (Cat) What is your class?: Monk What color are you aligned to?: White and Green (Naya allied with only very slight red inkling) What is your name?: Uranti Do you tend to make a big entrance?: No. Such displays would be selfish. Are you a risk taker?: Only for the sake of others. What sort of people tend to be your enemies?: Those who threaten my friends or tribe or who seek to destroy only for its own sake. Who sort of people tend to be your allies?: Those who constantly seek knowledge of the world around them, always strive to improve themselves (mind, body, and soul), and are there for their friends and family. Is the pen mightier than the sword?: The pen is hard to wield effectively but those who master it gain strength above all others. The sword's ease of use tempts those of weaker will to rely upon it. Do you believe in love at first sight?: No - It is something built with years and experience.

Stepping out from under the city gate Kazzarik raised a massive hand to block the sun from his eyes. Begrina always seemed to change each time he visited, maybe it was the summer, but the streets seemed busier. Clutching purse from his latest job Kazzarik started south, toward the one thing in Begrina that always was the same; dirty, dark, and full of drunks.
I was wondering if I could have my ability changed slightly ☺ it feels very weak and narrow, given how I have no activated abilities. Or do I have to level up to do that?
It's a brisk day, and I need supplies to begin any sort of adventure. This gold I'm carrying will be much less useful if I encounter a dangerous situation out of town. I'll head to the west side of town and start browsing the stores, keeping an eye out for items that have magical properties (and that are within my price range), or ingredients for creating potions. I also need to get a staff of some sort; those are usually quite cheap, though. Should I happen to run into another adventurer with similar tastes, I will try to befriend them.

Begrina has an appeal unlike many of the large cities. This smalltown feeling in such an expansive city is very uncommon. Gram often comes here to find work, get reacquainted with old friends or just to relax. He strides through the southern gate, content with where he is in the wo... "Excuse me." he mutters as a passer-by bumps into him. Just a few steps later another citizen knocks into him, "Exc...", he can't even get two syllables out before almost getting run over by a hulking Ogre. Frustrated, he steps under an awning and leans against the cool stone wall to clear his head, it's not much of an upgrade from the bustling street. He can't remember where he was even headed. "This city is less polite than I remember", he grunts. Ah, he can get some fresh air and maybe think a little better at the docks. Perhaps the cool water will help him remember what he was here for in the first place. Perhaps it'll bump into him, seeing as everyone else already is.

Assuming you accept my character, I'll go ahead and make my first post (I don't want to get too behind everyone else.)
Wow. Everything in Begrina was so big, and everyone seemed so important. At least, they acted important. They rushed everywhere, and no one seemed to notice one little kobold. The commotion excited the young Imako. This would be a great place to start his adventure. He was unable to get anyone to pay attention to him, but the human trader he'd talked to on the road had said the bazaar would be on the west side of town, near the docks. He made his way through the city, dodging carts in the streets and guided by the smell of the harbor. He finally found the bazaar, but the merchants did not seem happy to see him. They yelled at him, like they thought he might be some kind of thief, and once a big man threatened him with a sword. Imako wasn't going to give up that quickly. He'd have to keep looking.

Ugh. I can't believe all of my tools got stolen on the way here. I should have never trusted those scum that I traveled here with. It's not even worth it to track them down though. At least I still have some gold. Hopefully the bazaar has some basic tools for a reasonable price. You make your way to Begrina's tavern. The moment you open the door, blaring horns and plucky strings flood your ears, nearly knocking you back. You manage to get your body inside the crowded place and shut the door behind you. A variety of people in various states of sobriety and dress mull about, shouting, gambling, singing, sulking, etc. Behind the barkeep you see a sign that all drinks cost 3 gold coins. You also see a few figures who stand out from the rest. Off to the corner is a tall frail cloaked figure whose face is completely obscured but his hood. Near the center of the hall, two viashino warriors are in a heated fistfight. Sitting at the bar is Clark Mayven, sullen captain of the city watch.

You make your way down near the docks district into the open market. Scattered customers peruse the wears but most shopkeepers stand alone. As you start to look around, they perk up, and many begin shouting out to you. You find, though, that you are not so wealthy as you expected. Of the objects you pass that appear useful to an adventurer, many are outside your price range. You manage to find a staffsmith near the center of the market. At first glance, you can see that his nicer wares are well beyond what you can afford. But he does have a couple things you can afford. You see that for 50 gold you could buy a Worn Wooden Staff (+1 Out-Of-Combat Spell Mod); or for 100 gold you could buy a Fine Birch Staff (+1 Out-Of-Combat Spell Mod; Increased mana draw).
You also see a shady elf near the edge of the bazaar sketchily eyeing a jewelry stand. Finally, you notice another adventurer like yourself, Imako, in the bazaar as well.
Gram:
You make your disgruntled way toward the docks. As you look around, you see a grand array of ships. One, notably, hovers just above the water despite its resemblance to the water-bound galleys on either side of it. The southernmost pier offers quite a sight. A giant fish seems to have flailed itself onto the main deck and is flopping around, rendering the ship unusable lest a sailor be crushed by it's massive floppy weight. A sailor runs up to you.
"Please, sir, you have to help us. We can't board our ship until this dumb creature be dealt with. You look the capable type. If you can spare a hand, we'd be grateful. We were supposed to ship out near two hours ago."

Oh my! I've never held 100 gold pieces at the same time! I've always heard it was possible, but I never even stopped to consider it. I'll have to spend it extra foolishly. What kind of mischief could 100 gold pieces even afford, I wonder? Well, let's see, if I go to a shop to try to simply buy something, I know I'd get ripped off.
I think I should go to the tavern where I have a greater chance of paying some drunkard to do something amusing. And then getting my money back. And possibly more! More than a hundred? This is a win/win situation for me I've already seen what it's like to be unimaginably rich! Let's roll the dice!

Ah, a steep price for a Golem Frame. I really shouldn't, especially since I still don't have any tools. I barter with the shop keep and try to get him to throw in some basic tools with the deal. He finally gives in after I show him how desperately the Golem needs upgrades and explain how ripped off I am even after adding some tools.
Despite now having a semi-functional companion, I'm completely out of gold and need something to fill my stomach. I decide to wander down to the open docks to see if I can do a favor for someone in exchange for some gold, or some food.

An MMORPCCCG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Custom Card Creation Game)

2. How to Play
3. The Most Important Rule
4. A Strong Recommendation
5. Real/Anticipated FAQ

Clutching purse from his latest job Kazzarik started south, toward the one thing in Begrina that always was the same; dirty, dark, and full of drunks.

OBSTACLE: BIG DUMB FISH
GOAL: HELP THE SAILORS REGAIN USE OF THEIR BOAT

You make your way down near the docks district into the open market. Scattered customers peruse the wears but most shopkeepers stand alone. As you start to look around, they perk up, and many begin shouting out to you. You look around for whatever gear might fit a warrior of your stature. You see a dagger craftsman with a 60-gold Crude Iron Dagger (+1 Combat Spell Mod) and a 100-gold Notched Iron Dagger (+1 Power).
You also see another intimidating adventurer, Drugynn, looking at staves.

You make your way down near the docks district into the open market. Scattered customers peruse the wears but most shopkeepers stand alone. As you start to look around, they perk up, and many begin shouting out to you. You see a fellow artificer like yourself selling some wares. Among those you can afford, you see a 40-gold Attuner's Sphere (Increases colorless mana draw) and a 100-gold Golem Frame:

I think I should go to the tavern where I have a greater chance of paying some drunkard to do something amusing. And then getting my money back. And possibly more! More than a hundred? This is a win/win situation for me I've already seen what it's like to be unimaginably rich! Let's roll the dice!
>>> I'm heading South towards the Tavern.
Pulk G

Despite now having a semi-functional companion, I'm completely out of gold and need something to fill my stomach. I decide to wander down to the open docks to see if I can do a favor for someone in exchange for some gold, or some food.
