Welcome to The DCC discussion thread! If you would like to play in the contest, please post your entry in the official thread for the day.
How does this card-making game work? It's simple! Whenever your card receives a vote in the days poll, you receive one point for the month. If your card ends up with the most votes for that day, you will receive two additional points for the month. In the event of a tie, each person who tied receives one additional point. At the end of each month, the person with the most points on the scoreboard wins that month, then the scoreboard is cleared for the next month. You can play in as many or as few days as you want in any month.
This thread is for all discussion of the DCC. Please only place entries in the official thread for the day and leave comments about the contest here. Thanks.
Yeah, I could only do worst, but there are plenty of people on this site that could do much better!
Here is the discussion, seems like a good one to start things off. I can't wait to see how the first discussion on this thread turns out! (I have really wanted a discussion thread)
Not funny. Do I really have to bring this issue up to a mod? What is wrong with you?
Calling someone a liar isn't someone that can go over lightly in any sense of the word.
Especially in a case such as this-What I posted was a direct translation of what he said, and his only problem was that it would cause "rules nightmares" with interactions, something that can be solved with further clarification.
The point of this game is not that every card should be 100% correct. But rather, if someone likes your card despite possible rules hazards, then good for you. That's how it goes. Bitterness over lack of votes for your card really isn't justification for bitterness toward other users.
I said in my first non OP that I knew my card was broken. I infact felt it was good no one voted for it (it taps for2 which is busted on any land.)
I think you were misleading in your post,(no, in fact it was a lie. Your card WAS NOT said to be ok by a judge) but I said the thing I said in quotes as a joke, man. It was meant as an example of what people would say on a thread like that, but it would be pointless because you SHOULD get your points. I believe that is the spirit of the DCC.(as in I agree with everything you said in that last paragraph there)
I'm sorry for continuing to bother you... but another question has come up regarding a card I made for today:
Imprint—When Fateweaver’s Helix comes into play, you may remove a card in your hand from the game imprinting Fateweaver’s Helix.
As Fateweaver’s Helix comes into play, name a card with the same converted mana cost as the imprinted card. The named card is a copy of the imprinted card.
I was told that my trigger timings are off, that
You don't imprint a card until the card comes into play, yet the second ability requires an imprinted card as the card is coming into play, well before the imprint trigger.
Would there be a way to make this work? I thought you could only activate the second ability if you actually imprinted a card, but perhaps I'm misinformed...
Thank you so much.
"As comes into play" is a replacement effect - you don't activate it, and it applies before the object actually comes into play, long before the triggered ability resolves. However, what you have does work; you'll just have the effect doing nothing for a short while.
But "card is a copy of the imprinted card" is very ugly. :/ It doesn't work with any "comes into play with/as" effects, and it leads to nasty questions with morph, or with the artifact being destroyed in response to the spell being played. It's an interesting idea, but a very, very "bad" card (in the rules sense).
Look at what he said. Read it. He clearly says that what I have does work. His problem was that it would create a "rules nightmare." Here's something he said in a later pm:
Quote from Waoplanne »
making cards copies of random other cards is a nuclear disaster of epic proportions.
As I mentioned multiple times, he recommended me changing the card because it would cause a nightmarish rules headache, not because it wouldn't work. And what did I claim? "Judge said it works"-nothing more.
Now, are we going to argue semantics of that PM? Am I a liar?
I was going to ignore your provocation, because I'd rather not start off a new thread with this kind of mess...

My dream: to win a FCC with a flip card or a split card.
I do not need to. He said in that PM it did not work. Magic is a VERY strict game, there is NO room for "nasty questions."
He told you your card 'needed work,' but you went on to post he said it was 'ok.'
Look man. I know I have lied once on MtGS my self, and I am sorry I did it, but it was not a big deal. I have seen cards that work much less than your card, and get way more votes. I do not think its that big of a deal.
It doesn't work. I told you that in the follow-up PM. I originally told you this was a nightmarish mess, which means "it is too buggery to see print," so I didn't address every single concern or pay perfect attention to it because as soon as I saw that second part, the alarm bells went off in my head "KILL KILL KILL." If I hadn't focused on "this card has to die right now," I would have noticed the middle part of the replacement effect and never had told you it did work at all.
So the end result: I hastily misread and said one part of it worked, and was incorrect; I certainly never said it was okay.
End of discussion.
ETA: Apologies accepted all around; my apologies as well for not being clearer at first. In the future, and not just you guys but anyone that asks for for advice, please stop *as soon as* the discussion starts to turn into both parties contacting gurus and bring it public. Optimally, the creator contacts first for advice, someone else contacts for confirmation that it works later. Anything beyond that - "the judge said you said that he said that the Dalai Lama said..." - needs to be brought up where everyone can read everything at once so that it is perfectly clear.

I don't want to overstep my bounds because I'm not a moderator, but I think this is getting close to a flame fest and I'd rather not have this thread get obliterated in the first hour. Consequently, I would recommend that if one of you has a problem, report the post(s) to a moderator. Otherwise, this particular topic should probably be dropped, because I think the merits of the card have been discussed as much as they can be.
I too am sorry for dragging you into this Woapalanne, lord knows you have put up with enough of my **** for one year already.
Look, if you want to get technical I did not call you a lier(originally). I just showed a example of what kind of desiccation would be on this kind of thread if it did exists, here. (read it closely) (seems I was right, since this is the first think on the thread)
I did no call you, personally, a lier until you started getting 'up into my grill.'
You might want to look up the def of lie: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/lie "something intended or serving to convey a false impression; "
So, let just drop it. I meant my first post as an inside joke, since no one but you, me and Woapalanne would get it. Until now... Your card is fine. Relax, man.
Glad that's over.
Now, back to the matter at hand: Thanks a bunch, Yare! I dig this, big time. It'll be nice to have a real place to talk without screwing up the daily thread

Thing is, I never "intended to convey a false impression." It was my mistake, perhaps, that I first took in Woa's PM as saying "this card is OK if not for the rules problems it could create."
I understood this upon further PMs between Woa and myself.
But when I first posted my card, I was under the full impression that Woa had stated the card as being ok-hence, I posted the card as-is.
Calling something a 'lie' or someone a 'liar' is a serious insult. Next time, please think beforehand.
Edit: fifth posted as I was writing this post. If Soron drops this matter, I'll post no further about this issue as well.

I'm just curious: where are you from? Where I'm from (Amer'ka), people call each other liars all the time and we just kinda ignore it. I think certain words are just tossed around so much these days it's hard to determine whether or not it was meant to be a serious insult.

Well, if what you say is true at the time you made: this post.
I guess your right. You did not lie. This was just a big misunderstanding.
I am sorry I accused you of lying. (but technically I never called you a liar, just a lier)
I'm just curious: where are you from? Where I'm from (Amer'ka), people call each other liars all the time and we just kinda ignore it. I think certain words are just tossed around so much these days it's hard to determine whether or not it was meant to be a serious insult.
I understand where he is coming from. There is no easer way to upset me than to call me a liar when I am not lying.
As a possible alternative topic, I have suggested that we codify the rules a little bit more than we previously had them, but the topic didn't really get discussed because it would always get shoved aside the next well. Since we have this thread, I'm gonna bring it up one more time. If it gets dropped, then I'll drop it forever.
So, what I originally proposed, after some modifications, was this:
Quote from Yare »
1. The DCC (Daily Card Contest) is a month-long card creation competition. Each day, each participant receives points based upon the number of votes he or she received for his or her custom card submitted the previous day. At the end of the month, the participant with the most points wins.
2. Anyone may play as many or as few days as he or she wishes. Also, players can just jump right into the competition; there is no need to sign up or anything like that.
3. In order to participate in the daily contest, a person must:
(A) post in the daily thread a custom card he or she created and
(B) vote in the daily thread for a card other than one's own card.
4. Failing to do (A) or (B) disqualifies a person from being voted for in the next day's competition. If a person votes for his or her own card, that vote will not be counted.
5. After the poll closes, each person gets 1 point for each vote he or she received that day. The person who received the most votes for the day receives 2 bonus points. In the event of a tie for most votes in a day, each person tied for the most votes receives 1 bonus point instead. No other bonus points shall be awarded for any other reason.
6. Anyone may vote in the daily poll, even if he or she does not submit a card.
7. Have fun!
However, I have noticed that we wanted some additions because of the linking of card renders, so I propose this:
1. The DCC (Daily Card Contest) is a month-long card creation competition. Each day, each participant receives points based upon the number of votes he or she received for his or her custom card submitted the previous day. If a person votes for his or her own card, that vote will not be counted. 5. Each participant is allowed to create a card render for his or her card, though this is not required. The participant should use the hyperlink option when posting the card and make the card name the image link. Renders are usually large enough to clog up the list, so please submit a text-formed card and (optionally) a link in the name to the render. 6. 7. Anyone may vote in the daily poll, even if he or she does not submit a card. 8. Discussion of cards and about the contest in general should take place in the DCC Discussion Thread. Please only post card submissions in the daily thread. 9. Have fun!
Yeah, it's a little wordier, but it gets everything out there that I think is a current concern. Let me know what you guys think. Feel free to suggest amendments, submit your own rules list, or tell me that this one is terrible and should be deleted from all hard drives everywhere.
Well, we need a link on the first post to this thread, but I like the rules as they are. They are simple and have never cause a problem. If people have a question they can follow the link on the OP to here and ask questions, just like in the FCC.

I can agree with that; maybe more codification is not what we need (although I do like the "have fun" rule). Of course, this thread didn't exist as of this morning, so hopefully whomever posts the contest for tomorrow will link to this thread so as to get it in the general rotation.

WAIT! I posted it today!, let me change the OP on it!
Seems like a good day to be the OP.
At this point we should make it so you ONLY have your card on the other thread, just like the FCC.
I edited the first post, and deleted the drama. I think there should not be a penalty for posting more than just your card, but you should just post your card.
I also deleted this rule:
3. Any cards or user names with obscene language in them will have all offending words edited to a different ones when I make the thread for the day.
Since Lesurgo does not post them anymore (that was his rule. He would change "hellbent" to "heckbent" and whatnot, funny hang up of his)
I've always been curious. It seems like there are about three or four people that share the posting of a new DCC each day, and I'm fairly sure none of them are moderators. Is it just trusted people, do the mods pick them, or what? (No, I am not asking how I myself could get in, because I don't have the reputation, know-how, or free time right now)

I would like to discuss we get someone with some art ability to make a better DCC sign thing, that one needs replacing.
As long as it is not a flame fest, I think this is the place to do it now, at least for the moment. Constructive discussion, please.
I would also be all for a new DCC logo. Dunno where the old one came from, so no offense intended to anybody. I know I probably could not do better.
