Ivityaal, Comet-Seeker's Summit
Legendary Land (M)
Indolence (You may choose not to untap this permanent during your untap step.)
:symtap:, Sacrifice two lands: Add three mana in any combination of and/or to your mana pool.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if Ivityaal is tapped, put a charge counter on it.
Whenever Ivityaal becomes untapped, remove all charge counters from it. If three or more counters were removed in this way, put a 1/1 colorless Fragment creature token onto the battlefield for each counter removed in this way. The shattered souls gather here with each orbital pass of the comet, anticipating its strike.
Novasoul Acolyte 1RW
Creature - Viashino Cleric (U)
Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, Novasoul Acolyte and that creature each get +2/+0 and gain haste until end of turn. "Hail the messengers of light and chaos!"
0/4
Comet's AfterglowX1WW
Enchantment (R)
Comet's Afterglow enters the battlefield with X charge counters on it.
Each creature you control with power equal to or less than the number of charge counters on Comet's Afterglow is indestructible. "Every mote of dust from the comet is precious." - Veryag, novasoul acolyte
Sharding Assault4RR
Sorcery (R)
Destroy target land, then put a 1/1 colorless Fragment creature token onto the battlefield for each land that land's controller controls.
Does the % score system allow you to change teams between rounds? In the past, this was not possible because the total points available to people was different based on their teams, so it wouldn't be consistent to change between rounds.
Does the % score system allow you to change teams between rounds? In the past, this was not possible because the total points available to people was different based on their teams, so it wouldn't be consistent to change between rounds.
I suppose so, now that you mention it. I guess I was thinking of the old system. Would you mind moving to Team Manipulator?
I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.
You, sir, have just won the internet. Congratulations.
Caulra, the Lonely Valley
Legendary Land
Caulra, the Lonely Valley enters the battlefield tapped. T: Mindgate one mana of any color. (Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Use this mana only to cast cards you own from outside the game as though they were in your hand.)
As Caulra began to stir to consciousness, it started to draw others from around the multiverse, in hopes of finding one who could understand it.
Dreamscape Explorer:SymUG::SymUG:
Creature - Human Shaman (U)
When Dreamscape Explorer enters the battlefield, you may put a dream counter on target land.
If a land with a dream counter would produce mana, its controller may mindgate that mana instead. (That player adds that mana to his or her mana pool. It may only be used to cast cards he or she own from outside the game as though they were in his or her hand.)
She explores a new world without ever leaving her valley.
1/1
Enduring Dream2:SymUG::SymUG::SymUG:
Enchantment (R)
Whenever a permanent you control is destroyed, you may play a card with a different name you own from outside the game with the same type and converted mana cost without paying its casting cost. Dreams never die. They just change.
Dreamshape1UU
Instant (U)
Reveal a creature card you own from outside the game. Target creature an opponent controls becomes a copy of that creature card until end of turn. The giant dreamed he was a cockroach, and when he awoke he found that had been stomped on.
Straight creature kill in blue. Hrm....

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.
You, sir, have just won the internet. Congratulations.
so is GM on Team Manipulator? Right now there's only two people to critique...Doom Lich and Lyzl.
I haven't gotten any response on that, and neither have I gotten any response from netn9 and Rimeshade. I think at this point if anyone volunteers to switch they can, but I would recommend that they have 140+ points so as to be legitimate competition. I will leave this until noon EST, at which point critiques will open.
Critiques will open at 12:00 Noon EST.
EDS: Flavor up. Notes on flavor: Yes, it said you militarized beforehand, but that was basic, with the intention of protection. This is total, with the intent of conquest.
I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.

I'm sorry, I just find this card fairly dull. Considering your theme as well, I don't understand how it fits. I also, don't like continuous effects that aren't obvious on a non-rare card. I don't find this card well designed.
Jimmy_Groove:
great flavor, and there could be madly interesting applications to this (who knows what creatures you could use?!). I'm a little concerned of it's rules in tournament play would be, but I believe it's printable. Such good cohesion with your theme, love it.
Ryder052:
This card is well designed, but not too interesting imo. The flavor and feel is just average, and I think it's odd to use in tournament play. It's a fine card, I'm just not in love with it.
Rocket_Powered_Turbo_Slug:
Whew, this card just seems very oddly worded. Should it not just be "Untap target land, it becomes a 2/2 creature until end of turn. That creature blocks this turn if able."? Or something more like that? I'm just not a huge fan in general though, it's some sort of awkward land-dest or it gives you another attacker? At least it's different and interesting.
I had really tough time deciding between the 2nd and 3rd places... I just find the cards awkward in general. I went with the ones I thought did the more exciting/innovative effects.
I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.

Brazil Dude 101 - While not keeping with the attacking and blocking theme, the card still has a strong flavor connection to war. The landkill element is the stronger part, and the one which is worrysome, but it probably isn't enough to break the power curve.
Gerrard's Mom - So, you'll do on average about 3 damage divided as you choose for three mana. That's pretty solid, but not over the curve. But then you also get to draw an average of two land cards, and this would be in a deck that could certainly put those to use. While not certainly unprintable, it is pushing the curve very, very hard. But it does fit strongly with your theme.
Maokun - A card that punishes creature lands is a pretty limited focus, and the changing of its effect to no longer deal damage is a strange one. Could definitely see play, though..
Oculus - The base ability is certainly priced right, and I don't think option of a kicker is enough to force the price to go up. The second ability makes it a hard kill spell, but in a way that certainly makes sense and fits with the theme..
Umi no Samui - The card seems to be well-balanced and playable, but it is hurt by the lack of a strong mechanical theme in your submissions..
Void Nothing - Interesting twist on landkill, making it more powerful the less other landkill spells you run. You'll usually get 3-5 critters out of it, depending on how fast you accelerated it out, and it definitely follows the mechanical theme. Probably wouldn't see play outside of limited, but it'd be a solid pick there..
A lot of strong cards this time around, and most of these cards would make top 3 in a round where the competition were less strong. But since I have to narrow it down....
It feels like you shifted planes form Kamigawa to Alara with the "if x is 5 or more" clause. :-P All your guys getting a +3/+0 boost is neat, but when the spell only deals damage to creatures, and it doesn't Disintegrate them, this just doesn't feel as strong, especially for a rare.
I like the whole comet theme thing. Its neat. 6 mana is a lot to destroy a land, but getting some tokens out of it is nice. too bad you don't get one for the destroyed land. Not a bad card.
Wow, so many people to critique! How am I ever going to finish this all before the deadline?
Lyzl - What betrayal indeed! Of yours and doom lich's, I think yours is more flavorful (dripping...), but at the same time doom lich's is very flavor, but also EXTREMELY playable and opens up new deck possibilities. Your card, while so so flavorful, is pretty limited in scope and wouldn't see much play except in a block like kamigawa (but you've got a legendary theme going)...nonetheless, it's still pretty limited in scope, and I'm not sure I completely like that in order to steal a creature, its contingent on there being a legendary card first. Also, I'm not really understanding the Momentous card type. Is this supposed to be equivalent to "legendary" but for instants and sorceries? It's already a very limited card, and you're just making it more unplayable with a keyword that seems very narrow in scope besides. Otherwise, great design, but maybe not so playable.
Doom Lich - I think I liked your original version better, but the new Corpse Tribute is pretty interesting as well. An endless amount of creature kill for 4 mana is worrisome and may actually be a bit too strong. It probably would've been better if you had restricted it a bit or at least made it harder to cast (1BBB comes to mind). However, the name and mechanics of the card fits well, and I could easily see myself playing this card. I also like how it opens up new deck possibilities that go with the graveyard.
Rhimeshade - It's not a bad submission by any means, but doom lich and lyzl's are very very strong this week. All in the flavor, playability, and cohesiveness. A control magic variant is nice, though the giving it +1/+1 seems random so green seems very unnecessary. Also, the kicker for stealing lands seems tacked on. Why not steal artifacts or enchantments as well if its a mist of possession? I'd play the card in limited and in my decks, but the flavor isn't as strong as lyzl's nor is it breaking new ground like doom lich's. Good work though, you just got stuck on a very strong team.
1.) Doom Lich
2.) Lyzl (most of the time, you'd have first, but Doom Lich had an overall stronger submission IMO)

Eh, I dunno. I'd been debating as to whether or not it should cost 1RB. Maybe you're right. =/
Lyzl
----
"Momentous" sounds like a cross of Legendary & Grandeur just with a heck of a kick to it.
Moving on to the actual card itself now, it's extremely powerful. I believe it, at least to me, it would have been better if it would destroy a legendary you control to gain control of a target creature, that way your not fully wiping out another person. Granted it could work in your favor if you have the same legendary as another player so you can throw yours out, there are work arounds that don't require this much strength.
Doom Lich
---------
I really don't get it. Why make a card that costs quite a bit to pull off, then dredge it for what could be quite a bit more. Something seems off about this card being the way it is. This is not a card I would personally play unless I was exiling cards from others graveyards so I could lower the dredge cost.
Sorry Rime, not adding your crit in because the submissions were due by the 15th/16th and you submitted well beyond that.
]great flavor, and there could be madly interesting applications to this (who knows what creatures you could use?!). I'm a little concerned of it's rules in tournament play would be, but I believe it's printable. Such good cohesion with your theme, love it.

Top... 2? Doom Lich - Corpse Tribute: Nice, simple removal, but its true strength is as an awesome enabler for your erosion mechanic. It's also extremely useful with other dredge cards and recursion effects! I almost want to say that including dredge and erosion in the same set would make it too strong, and dredge decks are already strong enough.
Lyzl - Eminent Betrayal: Your card has great flavor - you sway an enemy underling to your side, and he betrays his master - and momentous is pretty cool (though it feels to me like it should only be on mythic rares for flavor purposes). Balance seems good for the effect - normally destroying a creature and controlling another in one card should either be a lot more expensive or have an additional non-mana cost in black, but the condition that your opponent has to have a legend in the first place is essentially the drawback. However, its usefulness is very swingy... I'm assuming your theoretical return to Kamigawa has even greater Legendary presence than the original, and this would be an auto-include in every EDH deck with access to black, but outside of those environments it'll be lucky to find its way into sideboards. This makes it hard to really judge its balance, as it would be almost broken in your block.
Both cards are almost too good for different reasons, but overall I think Lyzl's flavor wins me over.

"Suffer the little creatures, for they may yet rise up and beat you senseless."
MummifyBBB
Instant (U)
When you cast Mummify, any player may pay 5 life. If a player does, counter Mummify.
Gain control of target creature you don't control. That creature becomes black and gets +1/-1. "The mystic bandages of the mummy coiled like snakes around the beast. Seconds later a new slave was added to our army." - The spirit of the Valley of the Dead Kings
There is so much strange in this, I don't know where to begin. First of all, why all the black mana symbols? I'm getting a Temporal Extortion//Dash Hopes vibe, but it seems out of place. It also seems awkward that Mummify steals a creature rather than reanimating it (I would have made it either an Enchantment with the awkward +1/-1 bonus, or simply make it kill a creature unless they pay the life, then reanimate).
Bog Flu2:symub::symub:
Instant (U)
Put a -1/-1 counter on each creature target player controls. At the beginning of that turn's end step, proliferate. "He looked fine, but then he just fell over."
I'm not sure why you chose to hybrid here - this is definitely not solo blue. Gold would have been a much better choice here. Not a bad card though.

Target creature's controller sacrifices it, then may return an artifact, enchantment, or land card from his or her graveyard to the battlefield. You have become obsolete on the battlefield, old friend. But don't worry, there's another way you can make yourself useful to the cause.
Nice flavor. Somehow it reminds me of Metamorphosis, and as such I think a cost reduction would have been in order. Exiling would have felt a lot neater as well.

Sorcery (U)
Tap target artifact, creature, or land, then destroy target tapped creature. The Dimir were so good at keeping secrets that most agents never knew the ones pulling their strings were long gone, still carrying out their cryptic orders generations later.
The interaction here may feel obvious at first, but it's actually not what you think. You have to target a tapped creature to begin with, meaning you can't tap an untaped creature and then kill it off. With this in mind, this spell is actually a bit random and misleading. Good try though.

This makes it hard to really judge its balance, as it would be almost broken in your block.
Both cards are almost too good for different reasons, but overall I think Lyzl's flavor wins me over.

I'm not sure why you chose to hybrid here - this is definitely not solo blue. Gold would have been a much better choice here. Not a bad card though.
Nice flavor. Somehow it reminds me of Metamorphosis, and as such I think a cost reduction would have been in order. Exiling would have felt a lot neater as well.
The interaction here may feel obvious at first, but it's actually not what you think. You have to target a tapped creature to begin with, meaning you can't tap an untaped creature and then kill it off. With this in mind, this spell is actually a bit random and misleading. Good try though.
