In honor of the World Cup, I'll be following a similar, though slightly smaller format. The first three rounds will be round robin within your pods of four (see below). If you win a round, you will get 3 points. If you tie, you get 1. If you lose, you get 0. Top two in each pod will advance to the single-elimination top 8.
Pod 1:

4. Life Weaver
*As there are only 15 entries, I am a "dummy" entry. It counts as a bye. Since every player in this pod gets a bye, it evens out.
1 v 2 & 3 v 4
Pod 1:
Pendle vs. JonFuryZacharias:
Both of these cards are overcosted. I think Pendle's has more potential in an "average" game.
FponkDamn vs. Demigod:
I DID say that cantrips would be looked down upon. At this stage in the competition, that's enough to give it to Demigod.
Pod 2:
The Motley Fool vs. Brofaux:
TMF just has such a more elegant card than Brofaux does.
hoyerhan vs. Kensei:
Hoyerhan's card is not very inspired, but I really, really hate the "for each three" thing that Kensei has going on. It's one of my least favorite custom abilities.
Pod 3:
riddle vs. nope:
riddle's card just has much more potential than nope's.
Kev the Walker vs yareg:
Kev's card really is ludicrous.
Pod 4:

1 v 3 & 2 v 4
Pod 1:
Pendle vs. FponkDamn:
I definitely think that Pendle's card, though overcosted, has the edge on the cantrips.
JFZ vs. Demigod:
Neither card is spectacular. I say this is a tie.
Pod 2:
TMF vs. hoyerhan:
I think TMF's card is very good, but drawing TWO cards makes me a little nervous. hoyerhan's card is not that amazing, but I think this is... a tie.
Brofaux vs. Kensei:
Neither card is great, but I have to go with Brofaux.
Pod 3:
riddle vs. Kev:
Kev, I don't like your card.
nope vs. yareg:
While yareg's card is somewhat boring, it's going to be much more playable than nope's.
Pod 4:

ImpulsiveKnowledge vs Life Weaver:
I do not like Life Weaver's card. It's much too complicated for what it does. IK's card has some kick.
1 v 4 & 2 v 3
Pod 1:
Pendle vs. Demigod:
Pendle's card actually creates card advantage. Demigod's card does not.
JFZ vs. FPD:
Jon's card has such a big drawback that I think the cantrip is a better card. However, it's a cantrip, which is essentially autolose. So, a tie here.
Pod 2:
TMF vs. Kensei:
Kensei, again, this card is not impressive. TMF's card is slick, even though it might be too strong.
Brofaux vs. hoyerhan:
You know, I want to give this round to hoyerhan. I like the land better than this creature.
Pod 3:
riddle vs. yareg:
Two good cards. Riddle's card is going to draw more cards, but yareg's is reasonably balanced (would have been better pre-M10, obvs). Tie.

Caesarius, how did you make it up here? Somehow you won two rounds... Oh, I see. One of them was your bye against me. Your other win was against the weakest card. I'm sorry, but I said cantrips weren't going to make it far. And I'm holding that true.
Advancing: Pendle
riddle vs. hoyerhan
Riddle, at this point I'm thinking that I made a mistake advancing your card. But, maybe not. You've made a card that has the potential to be absolutely insane. No rarity on this makes it hard for me to evaluate for limited formats... Speaking of rarity, hoyerhan's card shouldn't be common. But it's a good land, and I like it better than riddle's.
Advancing: hoyerhan
yareg vs. TMF
Yareg, this entire contest I've been wondering what your card would be like in action. It's a 4 mana 2/2 with immunity to removal. But it's never going to trade in combat with anything (I'd rather just draw two cards), and paying 4 to draw two cards isn't so great. On the other hand, getting to attack with my divination is pretty nice, but we have other cards for that. TMF, your card impressed me from the beginning. Now that I look at it, I question making this a common. Its power level is too high, in addition. On that note, I have to advance yareg.
Advancing: yareg
Demigod vs IK
Demigod, I really don't like the card disadvantage this guy causes. Discard 4, draw 2? Hm. Conversely, IK's card is actually CA. I do like that your creature is a 2 mana 2/1, my favorite CMC to p/t combo. But, on primary function, IK wins it here.
Advancing: ImpulsiveKnowledge
1. Pendle
4. hoyerhan
5. yareg
8. ImpulsiveKnowledge
Pendle vs. hoyerhan
Pendle, again I must complain that your card is overcosted. When I pay 1UUU for a card, it should be Cryptic Command, right? Anyway, a three mana 1/2 is so unimpressive. This should have cost 1U and had a higher kicker cost. Now, of course, when we spend lots of mana, it gets more efficient, but then you might as well just play Mind Spring. hoyerhan, look at Horizon Canopy. There's a reason that card gets played, and it isn't because it's a dual land (well it is, but you know). This is a land like Tectonic edge that fits into nearly any deck, and would make it work. I don't think it should be common. Overall, hoyerhan's package is slicker than Pendle's in my opinion. I've come to enjoy his card.
Advancing: hoyerhan
yareg vs. IK
The Mentor is not a very impressive card, to be honest. I can see playing it, yes, but it doesn't have a lot of punch. IK's card has some punch (you discard, I draw for 2 mana is pretty good), and the kicker makes it really strong. Is it too strong? Maybe. Of course, it is just Unhinge with an extra kicker. Oh, and Unhinge is a cantrip. How did I not notice this?
Advancing: yareg
hoyerhan vs yareg
I feel that hoyerhan has the better card here. Despite maybe not having the most creative effort, hoyerhan's card is the card most likely to see play if printed.
WINNER: hoyerhan

Wow...after all of that judging I'm not going to knock your decision but I must say Hoyeran's card IS very dull, probably THE most simple thing anyone made. Probably took all of 30 seconds to make. Sure might see print but at common without a "ETB tapped" clause it'd probably be in every deck. Also, why don't you like the whole "for each 3" on my card? I'd bump it up to rare if it was "for each creature" but I made it that way to tone it down to a common.

I can hear Megiddo's favorite phrase for these sort of statements.
But really, 3 colorless for a card is not a bad deal. Heck, I would love to play this card myself in some decks but not all of them. There is the drawback of colorless, which can hurt in most decks.
Also, I have to admit that I liked yareg's card. Green/Blue, fits Simic flavor, and it's potentially a Fend off with instant card draw. May/could be an Uncommon though, that's my complaint.
Oh, I know Megiddo LOVES simple cards. I've been told this on many occasions. I just think creativity is the point of these contests and I don't think its very creative. It IS very effective and probably the most universally playable card out of the bunch.

Sacrificing a creature is a pretty big drawback. For a card like that, one that has an ability that you probably don't want to use, I would give it a bigger body so that it has a use outside of just activating itself. A 4 mana 1/2 is a pretty pathetic body. Something bigger, at least a 2/1, would be better.

Players may only cast spells and play land cards from their graveyard.
Spells and permanents are exiled instead of being put into their owner’s graveyard.
At the beginning of each player’s upkeep, that player puts the top 3 cards from his or her library into his or her graveyard.
Basically, your graveyard becomes your hand and keeps getting resources from the milling. It was originally "Players can't draw cards" but minus the "spells and permanents" clause but that'd be crazy considering you could cast the same spell over and over. It also had a discard clause but I think the "may only cast spells" clause works...I think the MAY makes it work, no?
