-I'll give you a task, and each leaguer has 3.5 days to submit a card. (We have a deadline, so try to adhere to this.)
- Then, the round closes, and each of you will have 1.5 days to post a Top 3 and reviews (And I shall do my best to have the next round up every 5 days.)
- Each 1st place earns you 3 points, 2nd place earns 2 points and 3rd place earns 1 point
- Additionaly, each player who posts a review for at least half the cards gains 1 point. Anyone who submits a T3 within deadline also receives a point.
- At the end of the third round, we go to a Top 8, where each session becomes a 1 vs. 1 (or not, it can sometimes be a 1 vs. 1 vs. 1 battle royale ) elimination, until we have our champion.
- If you don't post a round, you're on probation. If you don't post again, I'm sorry, but you're out.
- We have a "No Review Penalty" which means that if you don't post a T3, you are on probation, just as if you didn't post a card. If you didn't have time to post your T3 in time, PM it to me and I'll remove the probation, no extra charge!
- We'll have 2 teams. Each team will review the other team's cards. After 3 rounds, we will have a T4 for each team (team A 1st will face Team B 4th, team B 1st will face team A 4th, and so on).
- Some rounds I will vary the teams and scoring policies. I'll do my best to inform everyone what those changes entail.
The CCL is among the more fun games on the MtGSalvation forums due to its inherent aspect of interactivity among the Leaguers (that’s you). We actively critique each other’s card designs at the end of each round, putting a more personal interest into our cards and generally making us all better designers. Typically, we build worlds more complete than many games, as each round builds on the designs and ideas of previous rounds in the month. The CCL allows for Leaguers to plumb the depths of creativity, as the point schedule aspect allows for three full rounds without fear of elimination.
Schedule
The CCL will run six rounds, each lasting five days.
Rounds 1, 2 & 3 will be free-for-alls with each leaguer fighting for the most points during critiques. At the beginning of each of these rounds. The host will divide the league members evenly into two teams and each team will be assigned their design challenge. At the challenge deadline, the round will elapse into the critique section (see Critiques below). Once the critique section ends, the host will tally points and post the next round. Team rosters are likely to change between rounds; the new rosters will be included in the initial posting for the next round.
Each round will last five days: 3.5 to finalize designs, 1.5 for critiques.
The schedule will usually operate according to US Easter time zone (GMT -5) We will stick to this schedule as closely as possible, adjusting as necessary.
Challenge Rounds
At the start of each round, the host will post the challenge for the round. This may be, at the host’s discretion, a single challenge for all leaguers, a list for each leaguer to choose from, challenges assigned to each leaguer, or other challenge variation.
Each Leaguer will post his/her entry by the deadline, 3.5 days after the round is posted.
Critique Rounds
At the end of each challenge round, the host, or an individual the host designates, will officially close the round and open the forum for critiques. After this point, modifying the post containing your entry for the round will incur penalties (see Penalties section).
Each Leaguer will thoroughly critique at least 50% of the entries given by the leaguers on the other team.
In addition to the critiques, each Leaguer generates his/her list of the Top 3 entries for the round. The Top 3 listings are the chief source of points within the CCL and are therefore required to complete. Even if critiques are not completed, Top 3’s must be listed to avoid penalties (see Penalties for penalty schedule). Regardless of the cards actually critiqued by a given Leaguer, Top 3’s can be drawn from any valid entry of the round. Submitting Top 3’s grants one point.
A valid critique does not need to be lengthy. A few constructive sentences will do as long as they are meaningful. Neither “Hated it,” “Too expensive,” nor “Bahhrokken!!!” are valid critiques.
Example: The following card is submitted by Fitzgerald:
A few decent critics:
from Tiberius: Templating issue with “nonpermanent card,” it's confusing and should just read “instant or sorcery card.” And the cost seems steep: I’m giving up a mana, a card, and immediate access to the card I looked for. Creative, but not bad.
from Wilhelmina: I hate the name. Also the shuffle part should be right after removing the tutored card instead of on a separate line. Seems powerful as an instant, play it on the opponents turn and you get basically a free draw, but you get to pick it.
from Beauregard: A bit complicated for uncommon. It doesn’t go to microtext on a render (sans flavor text) but it still isn’t all that intuitive.
Valid Entry Constitution
A valid entry in a given round cleanly delivers all required components of the challenge. The CCL is based around card design, so each challenge will direct Leaguers to design one or more cards, but other components may be given according to the judge’s discretion. Historically, these non-card components have included such things as keyword mechanic designs, story pieces, and various ideas for the judge to incorporate into later rounds. Include only what is described by the challenge requirements, as superfluous items may sway judgings unfairly and will incur penalties.
It is customary to include card renders in entries. This is not required. Some Leaguers may not have access to render design software and therefore will not be penalized for posting an entry without a render. However, it must be understood that a proper render is easier to judge/critique as it is more pleasing to the eye, more memorable and allows for Leaguers to judge the card by its wordiness, a very important aspect of a card’s design. Common rendering software used include Magic Set Editor (free program, the standard that most amateur designers use), PhotoShop (not free), and GIMP (free PhotoShop knockoff).
Scoring
The bulk of available points will be derived from Top 3 listings, as is League custom. Within each Top 3 listing, the choice for 1st place will be awarded 3 points, the choice for 2nd place will receive 2 points, and the choice for 3rd place will receive 1 point. It is common for Leaguers to post an Honorable Mention or two along with their T3 listings. Honorable Mentions are not awarded points. Posting T3s is required and awards one point for completion of the requirements. There are penalties for failure to post T3s (see Penalties section).
Critiques are an optional aspect of the CCL, therefore no penalties are given for failure to complete critiques. Any Leaguer completing critiques for at least 50% of the other team's entries will receive 1 bonus point. An additional point will be awarded if a Leaguer critiques all valid entries in the round.
As noted in the section on Valid Entry Constitution, entries are encouraged to contain proper card renders. Some Leaguers may not have access to render design software and will not be penalized for posting an entry without a render.
Penalties
Failure to post Top 3s as required during the Critique section of any round will put a Leaguer on probation. While on probation, failure to post an Top 3 in any later round will disqualify that Leaguer for the remainder of the month.
Once a Round elapses into its critique section, any Leaguer modifying their entry after any leaguer has posted a critique, will be disqualified for the round.
Failure to post an entry within the Challenge round will put a Leaguer on probation. While on probation, failure to post an entry in any later round will disqualify that Leaguer for the remainder of the month.

Round Three: Opportunity of Salvation
"I can still hear the earth cry in pain from what we had done to her. Nature itself worked against us, to make sure that nothing will go as we planned. I told them, but they would not listen. To them, I am just a brute, a savage, good only for force but not for thought. But I am also a master of survival. I will not do nothing while the others get their way. I will become stronger, and when we will begin onces more, I will come out victorious.
The one I need is coming, the land tells me of his deeds. Coming for me, looking for a way home, but what I have to give is so much more.
Much like the tree in winter, I await patiently for my chance to bloom. I will not be made a fool again."
~~~~~~~~
The testing of the rifts has been a grand failure. It's not that your guinea pigs have not made the journey, it's that there was no telling what will become of them on the way. Some found themselves inside a large body of water on the other side, or the belly of a dragon, or faliing of a cliff, or in a river of lava. Some found themselve in the exact same spot, only a century older, or younger, or a banana. Some had found themselves next week, or yesterday morning. Most have never been found at all, and no amount of divination could tell you what has happened to them. It is now obvious you won't be able to go back home through these rift without risking a worse fate than you're already in.
But all hope is not lost. You have been hearing rumors of wizards so powerful, they can walk across the emptiness between the planes, and reach to a new one on the other side. Planeswalkers. Capable of leaving this misreble place, and taking you back to your homelands!
You have spent much time tracking them down. they come and go as they please, but from time to time, they may stay awhile in one place. You know what to do. If you are ever going to see your home again, you should approach one and offer your servitude in exchange for a ride home.
But which one?
Your mission is to create a planswalker card for a planeswalker your avatar would like to work for. It must share at least one color with your avatar, and will have the following restrictions:
Team Glory shall make a planewalker with the number 0 anywhere on the card Team Renown shall make a planewalker with the number 10 anywhere on the card Team Fame shall make an planewalker with the word "ten" anywhere on the card Team Prestige shall make an planewalker with the word "zero" anywhere on the card
Please check to make sure no mistakes were made. Players with a star next to their names are on probation for not posting top three. you can PM or post your top 3 before this round end to remove this probation.
Team Glory will critiqueTeam Fame. Team Renown will critique Team Prestige.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Amast, Scribe of Lies :3mana::symu::symb:
@Asrama: maybe my avatar will get 'walked inside of Naruto as well?
But more seriously, the only thing I *cough*borrowed from Naruto was the name, which is absolutely perfect for a nine-tailed fox, allegedly the highest level of wisdom in the kitsune race, which seemed perfect for a kamigawan planeswalker. Naruto's Kyuubi is clearly a mono red creature
Terrami, Vulshok Alchemist :3mana::symr::symr:
Legendary Artifact Creature - Human Artificer
Whenever an artifact is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, Tarramir gets +2/+1 and gains first strike until the beginning of the next end step. Terrami altered the metal of her being. And while she gave herself all the power she craved, she became more a being of metal than of flesh.
3/3
Terrami was hunched over, picking up the notes she'd scattered in her blind rage when her myr servants had failed to offer a route of escape from this plane. There was only one chance now, she decided. She must find a planeswalker. Terrami had thought them only to be a myth, the thought of all powerful beings that could transport themselves and others to other planes of reality was a little farfetched. But then, that's the same thing she'd thought of other planes as well.
Finally grabbing the last of her notes, Terrami stuffs them in a satchel and takes out a new sheet of parchment to write about her attempts to find a planeswalker from Mirrodin. She searched for weeks, rarely even discovering an observation to write down. Her Sightdust Trinkets came in very handy, allowing her to see anything up to a mile away. She new her odds were poor, what kind of planeswalker would visit a dead-end plane like this? But then, on day 26.7, Terrami's luck changed. She started to come upon small piles of scrap metal. The piles grew bigger until, the next day, she strode over a hilloc to spot a small goblin with bits of metal on his body. He was fidgeting around with a machine with glowing bands of energy Terrami had never seen before.
The goblin did not notice her, so she stood still and watched him work. But at that moment, the goblin sneezed, and his hand that was so delicately manipulating the machine with a tool that had to be of his own invention, jabbed sharply into it and ruptured its casing (and likely more important things inside, Terrami thought). The thick band of energy started the fade, and Terrami felt her usual power-up that she had designed her body to go through when an object was destroyed. But then, the dying energy in the machine lashed out, and dove into her body. She flinched, but instead of a shock, she felt even more powerful. Stronger than she had in her whole life in fact.
The goblin had noticed her now, his beady little eyes narrowed as he looked at her. "You!" he shouted, in a surprisingly deep voice for a goblin, "How did you take in that modular energy? Only machines can take..." He trailed off, his eyes were creepily changing colors: green, red, then blue, then gold, and back to a normal black. "You are more machine that flesh." He said, sounding awed, but then demanded, "How did this happen?"
Terrami smiled, "I am a tinkerer, myself. And you are a planeswalker, yes?"
The goblin was still staring at her body (in fact, as much staring would have been called inappropriate if Terrami didn't know he was only interested in the science.), he seemed to belatedly realize he'd been asked a question. "Yes, yes," he said distractedly. "You must help me with my experiments!" the goblin announced, "I'm Goorlk, so help me. I'm always trying to find a way to transfer my arcbound energy into nonmetal - I've only found how to produce it inside a weaker living being. Maybe I can learn to turn flesh into metal as you have instead."
Terrami grinned even broader, "I'd love to help, but there's something I want as well."
Avatar:
The tale continues...:
Koji once again summoned a spirit. But this one was different, this was no mere weak spirit that can be easily commanded. This one reeks of malice, evil and horror, and all that was aimed at Koji. Koji drew his katana and began slashing at the spirit with seemingly no harm done to it. Minutes later after many more slashes Koji stood in front of the spirit and smiled, the purpose of the slashes was not to hurt the spirit but instead to do a kanji on the ground and the spirit was in the middle of it. With a simple slash Koji activated the kanji to test the rift. Seconds later the rift opened and from it emerged the evil spirit, Koji saw a pair of red eyes... and another... and another until there are about fifty red eyes coming out of the rift. Somehow the spirit have spent one hundred year in the rift while for Koji it was a matter of seconds. Now Koji stood in front of the coming spirits and draw his katana one more time, he knew that mere steel would not stand a chance against the spirits. Koji touched the blade's edge and made a small incision on his index finger, with the blood he drew a kanji on the blade and chanted. His sword began emiting a white glow, now the odds were a bit in his favor and he smiled when he tought of his supposed immortality. As the first spirit approached him, Koji slashed the spirit from top to bottom. Where there was one now two spirits stood, Koji gripped his sword harder and began stabbing the spirits, freezing for a short time before attacking him again. Koji kept slashing until he was on the verge of collapse, surrender was not an option to hin neither running away. Suddently a voice was heard... or was it a thunder? The spirits began burn and dissipated away. Koji was shocked, then a man with a samurai like armor appeared before him. The stranger bowed to Koji in the tradition of Eiganjo. "Greetings warrior, I was watching your struggle for a while." said the stranger. "My name is Hanzo of the Brightflame, and after watching you do battle with those foul spirits I can see that you are a warrior like me." Koji was astonished, Could this Hanzo be one of the fabled planeswalkers? Who else could have that kind of power? Koji told Hanzo of how he came to be here and how he wished to get back to his Lord Konda in Eiganjo. Hanzo was intrigued by Koji and asked to tell more of Eiganjo. Koji agreed since he felt that this Hanzo had an aura of a warrior around him, and also because he could take him from this forsaken land.
Mythic
A bit of talk about the 0. Obviously you can still only play one planewalker ability each turn, paying 0 for one of them doesnt take that away. As for the power level of it, you have to remember that you aren't advancing the planeswalker any by doing it. If you're using the first ability you're never going to use the last, please keep this in mind when judging. It's sort of like an ultimate that doesn't hurt the planeswalker any.
The Disciples roamed the continent they were on. Hearing from some inhabitants of a somewhat unstable traveler who often roamed the land. Said to have been to and from different worlds altogether. As they approached the dwelling of this traveller the smell of burnt grass and stone became prevalent. They reached the lip of an old crater and saw whom they sought. Gibbering to himself like he was of two minds in the same body. As they called out to him he spun around and threw what they could only guess was red and blue lightning they ducked and heard the planeswalker grumble for a moment and then call out. "If ye weren't scarecrows why didn't ye just say so!" The Disciples looked at each other in confusion, wondering if this human could truly be trusted and also what a scarecrow was.
Forcing the time-rifts open had ended ... badly. It was time for a new approach. Vela's latest test, this time forcing a strange creature that called itself a Kor into one of the rifts, had interesting results. The Kor, after entering the rift, had begun spouting out some form of prophesy as it slowly disintegrated. Most of what it said was meaningless to Vela; something about unthinkable perils and hideous traps. However, right before it fully disintegrated, the Kor had mentioned something a new manner of creature more powerful than any other: it told Vela about Planeswalkers.
After a long hunt, Vela finally tracked down one of these mythic beings, which according to the Kor could bend the fabric of space to their liking.
A bird-that-wasn't-a-bird carefully landed in the middle of a forest before transforming into a kithkin-that-wasn't-a-kithkin. Vela slowly began walking towards her new target and put on her best 'you can trust me' smile. Things were about to get intresting.
Kasir had finally given up on the Rakdos mob in disgust. He had not yet completely exhausted their numbers, but it was getting harder to control them with each group lost, as their fervor began to die down and they grew bored of their "game." In any case, the rifts had proven far too unpredictable to serve as a reliable means home. Still, he had gained much useful knowledge from his experiments - and a multitude of questions from the myriad worlds he had briefly glimpsed. In fact, he was no longer quite so eager to return home; what purpose would it serve to go back to Ravnica, where all the variables were known, stale, when an entire multiverse lay tantalizingly out of reach? He was tempted to throw himself into a portal, but even if he survived the trip intact and it did bring him to a new world, once there he would no longer have access to the rifts, cut off from going anywhere else.
The biomancer had heard rumors, however; whisperings of god-like beings, great wizards capable of traversing worlds on their own. Kasir had no idea where or how to start looking for such a being, but fortunately one found him. He had been tracking down a group of life-churchers he had spotted a while back, hoping to collaborate efforts - or at least glean what knowledge they might have found concerning a way home - when he came quite suddenly upon a man who seemed very much out of place. In the middle of the dessicated remains of a forest, Kasir had been pleasantly shocked to find a small clearing of abundant life, tiny creatures he had thought would have not survived in Dominaria's current state scampering and fluttering around a solitary figure. The man crouched, simple furred robes bunched up around his legs; he cradled a small, pitiful-looking creature, sickened and gaunt, barely alive. Kasir stared in muted awe as the man stroked his hands gently across the creature's back and stomach, and fine, silky fur sprouted where none had been before; his deft fingers worked around spindly legs and almost-exposed ribs as the creature's pale skin darkened and filled out. Finally, as if he were molding mere clay rather than flesh, he pulled and kneaded and formed delicate, gossamer wings from its back. Throughout all this the creature hardly moved, expressing none of the reactions of pain or fear Kasir would have expected.
Finally, the man stood slowly, raising his hands and casting the creature upwards with a soft smile. "There you go, little one. Live and prosper." It sprang delighted into the air, spinning a couple agile circles around him as if it had always been capable of flight before buzzing off to join the others. Kasir had not yet moved from where he stood at the edge of the clearing; the man spoke to him without turning. "You are a shaper. Like me."
"Not like you," Kasir insisted humbly, finally finding his voice. "I am a scientist. What you do is art." The man laughed, a kind, barking sound that whiped away any misgivings the biomancer might have had about him.
"I am a shaper. The means matter little; it is the purpose that binds us. The undeniable call to create and nourish life." He gestured grandly to the serene scene around them. Kasir found himself nodding. "I believe we can learn from each other, shaper. Come with me."
It was not a question.
Okay, I just realised I'm pretty much writing a novel here (and I'm not even finished yet), so if the underlying storyline is not important to you, feel free to skip it.
"Will she be all right?" Wrizfar asked the mother dryad. Brushing him aside, she ignored the elf and continued weaving her oaken magic upon her younger sistren. The two of them stood in what was a makeshift infirmary, where a number of Selesyna dryads remained in various states of ill being. Everywhere he turned, Wrizfar could see victims of his own doing. To his left was a dryad phasing from reality, her somatic form gradually attaining a transparent appearence. Even with his experience as a shapeshifter, this condition was entirely foreign to Wrizfar and he had no idea what had happened to the poor maiden beyond the portals, let alone know how to help her. To his right was a once beautiful dryad, now reduced to a blabbering mess. Her skin had became a carcass of its former self, the willow beauty replaced by sickening deadwood. Her voice no longer resembled the soft murmurs of a flowing stream; it had became a shriek of endless utterances, a barrage of verbal nonsense like that of a possessed individual. Wrizfar watched the depraved spirit for a brief moment, before turning away and bowing his head at his powerlessness. Never had he felt so useless. For an elf of his stature, the word failure had rarely cross his mind throughout his life. Since he found himself on this blasted plane however, his incompetence had been glaring to both himself and everyone around him.
"Wrizfar Barkfeather."
Wrizfar looked up in surprise. Those were the first words the mother dryad had spoken to him all day. She stood before him, her eyes fixated on his defeated face. Wrizfar could not interpret her facial expression - it was a mixture of disappointment and distrust, melancholy and ambivalence. The elf remained silent. He knew it was not his turn to speak.
"Acolyte of the Conclave. Holy Protector of Vitar Yescu. In Ravnica, Wrizfar Barkfeather, you were bestowed with both titles, with the expectancy that you would live up to the honour and selflessness that previous holders were renowned for." Your willingness to sacrifice our fair sisters for the sake of your own life suggests you are unworthy of either position. Neither vanity nor self-importance are values that our parun, Mat'selesnya, swore to live by when she signed the Guildpact ten millenia ago."
She paused for a brief moment as the impact of her words sunk in. Wrizfar had not expected such a patronising tone from the usually graceful dryad, and yet every word rung true. He had only thought of himself, unaware of the thoughts and feelings of the dryads he exploited. The consequences of his ignorance was staring him right in the face. His selfish actions had tarnished the integrity of the Selesnya guild. Shamefaced and disgraced, Wrizfar could not meet the dryad's eyes and turned away from her glare.
"However Selesnya also prides on its harmony and unity, and in consideration of the circumstances, we are more than willing to forgive your lack of foresight. The Chorus of the Conclave may be many minds but we speak with one voice when we remind you, Barkfeather, that the purest of hearts are born from a single misstep."
At that, the mother dryad turned her attention to her fellow wood spirits and resumed her recuperative duties. Relieved, Wrizfar graciously accepted her deliverance and took her wise words to heart. This was a chance for redemption. The guilt having lifted off his shoulders, he was ready to resume life as a reawakened individual. He stood up with a renewed sense of pride. I will redeem myself, Wrizfar thought to himself. I will right my wrongs. Bluish feathers sprouted from his flesh and his facial features gradually undertook an avian appearance. Having shapeshifted to his falconine form, Wrizfar flapped his wings and took off with a resonating cry. I will find us a way to get us home.
As luck would have it, Wrizfar soon encountered a possible solution to their predicament. Flying over a series of mold-covered copper structures that strangely resembled a metallic forest, Wrizfar detected an overwhelming amount of green mana from below him. Curious of its source, he descended sharply and made his landing upon a tree-like metal spire. Like a hunter seeking its prey, the falcon-elf meticulously scanned his surroundings. Wrizfar frowned. Even with his superior avian vision, he could see nothing out of the ordinary. Many of the metallic 'trees' were coated in a rusting layer of verdigris, glowing fruit dangled from nearby branches, and th-
All of a sudden, wire-like vines emerged from behind him and snared Wrizfar's wings in a tight embrace!
The vines tightened as the falcon-elf hopelessly struggled in their grip. More vines appeared, looping around his exposed neck in an inescapable death choke. Gasping for breath, his vision blurring, the vines bitting into his flesh. The situation looked dire in his mana-depleted and weary state. Even then, Wrizfar could only think of himself, the dryads, and the promise he had made. He was going to find them a way of getting home. And he was not going to let them down. Ignoring the pain as best as he could, Wrizfar closed his eyes and called out to Ravnica, his homeland. He thought about the birds of paradise that often flew past his bedchamber window, the serenity of the beautiful temple gardens, the dancing dryads that sung with a collective voice. He thought of the Selesnya guild, and what it meant for him to be a member of it. He thought of Mat'selesnya, pleading with her to provide him with the will and energy to break free from his predicament.
With the Collective Unconscious wording, I wasn't sure whether the ultimate would count the land creatures if you had exactly 5 loyalty counters (because that was my intention), so I borrowed the slightly awkward template from Jaws of Stone.
I realised I made the mistake of not updating the fixes I made last round to the Excel sheet I used to keep track of it all. This means the scores of anyone who had his or her score wrong last round, will have it wrong this round as well. I'll get on to fixing it shortly, so no need to tell me about it yet.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Despite my name, I do not play casual magic. Just thought that would be good to tell people.
To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
-I'll give you a task, and each leaguer has 3.5 days to submit a card. (We have a deadline, so try to adhere to this.)
- Then, the round closes, and each of you will have 1.5 days to post a Top 3 and reviews (And I shall do my best to have the next round up every 5 days.)
- Each 1st place earns you 3 points, 2nd place earns 2 points and 3rd place earns 1 point
- Additionaly, each player who posts a review for at least half the cards gains 1 point. Anyone who submits a T3 within deadline also receives a point.
- At the end of the third round, we go to a Top 8, where each session becomes a 1 vs. 1 (or not, it can sometimes be a 1 vs. 1 vs. 1 battle royale ) elimination, until we have our champion.
- If you don't post a round, you're on probation. If you don't post again, I'm sorry, but you're out.
- We have a "No Review Penalty" which means that if you don't post a T3, you are on probation, just as if you didn't post a card. If you didn't have time to post your T3 in time, PM it to me and I'll remove the probation, no extra charge!
- We'll have 2 teams. Each team will review the other team's cards. After 3 rounds, we will have a T4 for each team (team A 1st will face Team B 4th, team B 1st will face team A 4th, and so on).
- Some rounds I will vary the teams and scoring policies. I'll do my best to inform everyone what those changes entail.
The Long Version:
The following card is submitted by Fitzgerald:
from Wilhelmina: I hate the name. Also the shuffle part should be right after removing the tutored card instead of on a separate line. Seems powerful as an instant, play it on the opponents turn and you get basically a free draw, but you get to pick it.
from Beauregard: A bit complicated for uncommon. It doesn’t go to microtext on a render (sans flavor text) but it still isn’t all that intuitive.
Round Three: Opportunity of Salvation
"I can still hear the earth cry in pain from what we had done to her. Nature itself worked against us, to make sure that nothing will go as we planned. I told them, but they would not listen. To them, I am just a brute, a savage, good only for force but not for thought. But I am also a master of survival. I will not do nothing while the others get their way. I will become stronger, and when we will begin onces more, I will come out victorious.
The one I need is coming, the land tells me of his deeds. Coming for me, looking for a way home, but what I have to give is so much more.
Much like the tree in winter, I await patiently for my chance to bloom. I will not be made a fool again."
~~~~~~~~
The testing of the rifts has been a grand failure. It's not that your guinea pigs have not made the journey, it's that there was no telling what will become of them on the way. Some found themselves inside a large body of water on the other side, or the belly of a dragon, or faliing of a cliff, or in a river of lava. Some found themselve in the exact same spot, only a century older, or younger, or a banana. Some had found themselves next week, or yesterday morning. Most have never been found at all, and no amount of divination could tell you what has happened to them. It is now obvious you won't be able to go back home through these rift without risking a worse fate than you're already in.
But all hope is not lost. You have been hearing rumors of wizards so powerful, they can walk across the emptiness between the planes, and reach to a new one on the other side. Planeswalkers. Capable of leaving this misreble place, and taking you back to your homelands!
You have spent much time tracking them down. they come and go as they please, but from time to time, they may stay awhile in one place. You know what to do. If you are ever going to see your home again, you should approach one and offer your servitude in exchange for a ride home.
But which one?

Legendary Artifact Creature - Human Artificer
Whenever an artifact is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, Tarramir gets +2/+1 and gains first strike until the beginning of the next end step.
Terrami altered the metal of her being. And while she gave herself all the power she craved, she became more a being of metal than of flesh.
3/3
Finally grabbing the last of her notes, Terrami stuffs them in a satchel and takes out a new sheet of parchment to write about her attempts to find a planeswalker from Mirrodin. She searched for weeks, rarely even discovering an observation to write down. Her Sightdust Trinkets came in very handy, allowing her to see anything up to a mile away. She new her odds were poor, what kind of planeswalker would visit a dead-end plane like this? But then, on day 26.7, Terrami's luck changed. She started to come upon small piles of scrap metal. The piles grew bigger until, the next day, she strode over a hilloc to spot a small goblin with bits of metal on his body. He was fidgeting around with a machine with glowing bands of energy Terrami had never seen before.
The goblin did not notice her, so she stood still and watched him work. But at that moment, the goblin sneezed, and his hand that was so delicately manipulating the machine with a tool that had to be of his own invention, jabbed sharply into it and ruptured its casing (and likely more important things inside, Terrami thought). The thick band of energy started the fade, and Terrami felt her usual power-up that she had designed her body to go through when an object was destroyed. But then, the dying energy in the machine lashed out, and dove into her body. She flinched, but instead of a shock, she felt even more powerful. Stronger than she had in her whole life in fact.
The goblin had noticed her now, his beady little eyes narrowed as he looked at her. "You!" he shouted, in a surprisingly deep voice for a goblin, "How did you take in that modular energy? Only machines can take..." He trailed off, his eyes were creepily changing colors: green, red, then blue, then gold, and back to a normal black. "You are more machine that flesh." He said, sounding awed, but then demanded, "How did this happen?"
Terrami smiled, "I am a tinkerer, myself. And you are a planeswalker, yes?"
The goblin was still staring at her body (in fact, as much staring would have been called inappropriate if Terrami didn't know he was only interested in the science.), he seemed to belatedly realize he'd been asked a question. "Yes, yes," he said distractedly. "You must help me with my experiments!" the goblin announced, "I'm Goorlk, so help me. I'm always trying to find a way to transfer my arcbound energy into nonmetal - I've only found how to produce it inside a weaker living being. Maybe I can learn to turn flesh into metal as you have instead."
Terrami grinned even broader, "I'd love to help, but there's something I want as well."

Koji once again summoned a spirit. But this one was different, this was no mere weak spirit that can be easily commanded. This one reeks of malice, evil and horror, and all that was aimed at Koji. Koji drew his katana and began slashing at the spirit with seemingly no harm done to it. Minutes later after many more slashes Koji stood in front of the spirit and smiled, the purpose of the slashes was not to hurt the spirit but instead to do a kanji on the ground and the spirit was in the middle of it. With a simple slash Koji activated the kanji to test the rift. Seconds later the rift opened and from it emerged the evil spirit, Koji saw a pair of red eyes... and another... and another until there are about fifty red eyes coming out of the rift. Somehow the spirit have spent one hundred year in the rift while for Koji it was a matter of seconds. Now Koji stood in front of the coming spirits and draw his katana one more time, he knew that mere steel would not stand a chance against the spirits. Koji touched the blade's edge and made a small incision on his index finger, with the blood he drew a kanji on the blade and chanted. His sword began emiting a white glow, now the odds were a bit in his favor and he smiled when he tought of his supposed immortality. As the first spirit approached him, Koji slashed the spirit from top to bottom. Where there was one now two spirits stood, Koji gripped his sword harder and began stabbing the spirits, freezing for a short time before attacking him again. Koji kept slashing until he was on the verge of collapse, surrender was not an option to hin neither running away. Suddently a voice was heard... or was it a thunder? The spirits began burn and dissipated away. Koji was shocked, then a man with a samurai like armor appeared before him. The stranger bowed to Koji in the tradition of Eiganjo. "Greetings warrior, I was watching your struggle for a while." said the stranger. "My name is Hanzo of the Brightflame, and after watching you do battle with those foul spirits I can see that you are a warrior like me." Koji was astonished, Could this Hanzo be one of the fabled planeswalkers? Who else could have that kind of power? Koji told Hanzo of how he came to be here and how he wished to get back to his Lord Konda in Eiganjo. Hanzo was intrigued by Koji and asked to tell more of Eiganjo. Koji agreed since he felt that this Hanzo had an aura of a warrior around him, and also because he could take him from this forsaken land.

A bit of talk about the 0. Obviously you can still only play one planewalker ability each turn, paying 0 for one of them doesnt take that away. As for the power level of it, you have to remember that you aren't advancing the planeswalker any by doing it. If you're using the first ability you're never going to use the last, please keep this in mind when judging. It's sort of like an ultimate that doesn't hurt the planeswalker any.

Forcing the time-rifts open had ended ... badly. It was time for a new approach. Vela's latest test, this time forcing a strange creature that called itself a Kor into one of the rifts, had interesting results. The Kor, after entering the rift, had begun spouting out some form of prophesy as it slowly disintegrated. Most of what it said was meaningless to Vela; something about unthinkable perils and hideous traps. However, right before it fully disintegrated, the Kor had mentioned something a new manner of creature more powerful than any other: it told Vela about Planeswalkers.
After a long hunt, Vela finally tracked down one of these mythic beings, which according to the Kor could bend the fabric of space to their liking.
A bird-that-wasn't-a-bird carefully landed in the middle of a forest before transforming into a kithkin-that-wasn't-a-kithkin. Vela slowly began walking towards her new target and put on her best 'you can trust me' smile. Things were about to get intresting.

The biomancer had heard rumors, however; whisperings of god-like beings, great wizards capable of traversing worlds on their own. Kasir had no idea where or how to start looking for such a being, but fortunately one found him. He had been tracking down a group of life-churchers he had spotted a while back, hoping to collaborate efforts - or at least glean what knowledge they might have found concerning a way home - when he came quite suddenly upon a man who seemed very much out of place. In the middle of the dessicated remains of a forest, Kasir had been pleasantly shocked to find a small clearing of abundant life, tiny creatures he had thought would have not survived in Dominaria's current state scampering and fluttering around a solitary figure. The man crouched, simple furred robes bunched up around his legs; he cradled a small, pitiful-looking creature, sickened and gaunt, barely alive. Kasir stared in muted awe as the man stroked his hands gently across the creature's back and stomach, and fine, silky fur sprouted where none had been before; his deft fingers worked around spindly legs and almost-exposed ribs as the creature's pale skin darkened and filled out. Finally, as if he were molding mere clay rather than flesh, he pulled and kneaded and formed delicate, gossamer wings from its back. Throughout all this the creature hardly moved, expressing none of the reactions of pain or fear Kasir would have expected.
Finally, the man stood slowly, raising his hands and casting the creature upwards with a soft smile. "There you go, little one. Live and prosper." It sprang delighted into the air, spinning a couple agile circles around him as if it had always been capable of flight before buzzing off to join the others. Kasir had not yet moved from where he stood at the edge of the clearing; the man spoke to him without turning. "You are a shaper. Like me."
"Not like you," Kasir insisted humbly, finally finding his voice. "I am a scientist. What you do is art." The man laughed, a kind, barking sound that whiped away any misgivings the biomancer might have had about him.
"I am a shaper. The means matter little; it is the purpose that binds us. The undeniable call to create and nourish life." He gestured grandly to the serene scene around them. Kasir found himself nodding. "I believe we can learn from each other, shaper. Come with me."
It was not a question.

“The expression of life cannot be confined to a single form. It yearns to be free from its constraints, to take flight and take charge.”

"Wrizfar Barkfeather."
Wrizfar looked up in surprise. Those were the first words the mother dryad had spoken to him all day. She stood before him, her eyes fixated on his defeated face. Wrizfar could not interpret her facial expression - it was a mixture of disappointment and distrust, melancholy and ambivalence. The elf remained silent. He knew it was not his turn to speak.
"Acolyte of the Conclave. Holy Protector of Vitar Yescu. In Ravnica, Wrizfar Barkfeather, you were bestowed with both titles, with the expectancy that you would live up to the honour and selflessness that previous holders were renowned for." Your willingness to sacrifice our fair sisters for the sake of your own life suggests you are unworthy of either position. Neither vanity nor self-importance are values that our parun, Mat'selesnya, swore to live by when she signed the Guildpact ten millenia ago."
She paused for a brief moment as the impact of her words sunk in. Wrizfar had not expected such a patronising tone from the usually graceful dryad, and yet every word rung true. He had only thought of himself, unaware of the thoughts and feelings of the dryads he exploited. The consequences of his ignorance was staring him right in the face. His selfish actions had tarnished the integrity of the Selesnya guild. Shamefaced and disgraced, Wrizfar could not meet the dryad's eyes and turned away from her glare.
"However Selesnya also prides on its harmony and unity, and in consideration of the circumstances, we are more than willing to forgive your lack of foresight. The Chorus of the Conclave may be many minds but we speak with one voice when we remind you, Barkfeather, that the purest of hearts are born from a single misstep."
At that, the mother dryad turned her attention to her fellow wood spirits and resumed her recuperative duties. Relieved, Wrizfar graciously accepted her deliverance and took her wise words to heart. This was a chance for redemption. The guilt having lifted off his shoulders, he was ready to resume life as a reawakened individual. He stood up with a renewed sense of pride. I will redeem myself, Wrizfar thought to himself. I will right my wrongs. Bluish feathers sprouted from his flesh and his facial features gradually undertook an avian appearance. Having shapeshifted to his falconine form, Wrizfar flapped his wings and took off with a resonating cry. I will find us a way to get us home.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As luck would have it, Wrizfar soon encountered a possible solution to their predicament. Flying over a series of mold-covered copper structures that strangely resembled a metallic forest, Wrizfar detected an overwhelming amount of green mana from below him. Curious of its source, he descended sharply and made his landing upon a tree-like metal spire. Like a hunter seeking its prey, the falcon-elf meticulously scanned his surroundings. Wrizfar frowned. Even with his superior avian vision, he could see nothing out of the ordinary. Many of the metallic 'trees' were coated in a rusting layer of verdigris, glowing fruit dangled from nearby branches, and th-
All of a sudden, wire-like vines emerged from behind him and snared Wrizfar's wings in a tight embrace!
The vines tightened as the falcon-elf hopelessly struggled in their grip. More vines appeared, looping around his exposed neck in an inescapable death choke. Gasping for breath, his vision blurring, the vines bitting into his flesh. The situation looked dire in his mana-depleted and weary state. Even then, Wrizfar could only think of himself, the dryads, and the promise he had made. He was going to find them a way of getting home. And he was not going to let them down. Ignoring the pain as best as he could, Wrizfar closed his eyes and called out to Ravnica, his homeland. He thought about the birds of paradise that often flew past his bedchamber window, the serenity of the beautiful temple gardens, the dancing dryads that sung with a collective voice. He thought of the Selesnya guild, and what it meant for him to be a member of it. He thought of Mat'selesnya, pleading with her to provide him with the will and energy to break free from his predicament.

With the Collective Unconscious wording, I wasn't sure whether the ultimate would count the land creatures if you had exactly 5 loyalty counters (because that was my intention), so I borrowed the slightly awkward template from Jaws of Stone.

I realised I made the mistake of not updating the fixes I made last round to the Excel sheet I used to keep track of it all. This means the scores of anyone who had his or her score wrong last round, will have it wrong this round as well. I'll get on to fixing it shortly, so no need to tell me about it yet.
Edit: Fixed.
