Forgotten Chronicles 5
Artifact
You may choose not to untap Forgotten Chronicles during your untap step. T: Tap target legend and put a page counter on Forgotten Chronicles. As long as Forgotten Chronicles remains tapped, that permanent doesn't untap during its controller's untap step.
Remove three page counters from Forgotten Chronicles, :symq:: Remove target legend from the game. You may only play this ability as a sorcery.
And so Judgement for Round 2 begins.
The winner of each match and the best of the runner ups will move on to the semi finals.
Kenaron (Sepetember 2008 FCC round 4 )
Your spawn is a deadly abomination that is effective, effecient, and quite possibly too deadly. Considering the only deck you'd put this is one that would captilize on graveyard shenanigans, this card could become very large, very quickly. It's scary how powerful this thing could be under the right circumstances. And subtracting those, you get a fairly strong creature with a few advantage. Love the card, but serious playtesting is required to see if the card is balanced on any level. Flavor and concept are perfect, but the excution is worrisome.
snoopYah (Make a noncreature permanent card with Devour. )
I'm partial to the card b/c it's similar to something I made in a different contest. The card is actually balanced, well costed, and flavorful. I would have perfered an enchantment/land, but an artifact works just fine.
WINNER: snoopYah. Three words and everything clicked. Kenaron's card frightened me to say the very least.
Keeperofzion (Make a card with a hybrid mana cost and entwine.)
An exile card that works very simply, very elegant. Just a few problem that are just game breaking. Hybrid cards work in both colors. While black on occassion gets life gain in a rare moon, white will rarely get life loss directly ever. Second, Unmake still exists. It's basically the same effect. You reduced the color intensity, added a rider effect, and it has entwine. Amazing flavor, but your power curve is off, even if it is a rare.
Gerard's Mom (Make a monocolored creature card with persist.)
I look at this card and all I'm thinking of is why wasn't a card like that is SHA or EVE. Nuff said. Balanced, flavorful, good in limited, interacts well with other -1/-1 counters, a solid card in all respects.
WINNER: GM. Very few cards make feel like they belong in a set. Fewer cards make me feel like they should have been. Keeper's card while versatile out matched to many other cards.
Asrama (January 2008 FCC round 3)
This card, like snoopYah's reminds me of another card I made in the past. Yet, this card does it slightly better at a slightly more expensive cost, with a slightly greater drawback. It could be the deck stacker needed to refuel aggro decks, the tutor for the win condition, or just a way to put the cards you don't need somewhere else.
Homee1212 (Please make an artifact that hates on Legends. )
I kinda liked your other card to. This card could only be in Kamigawa or another legend oriented set. But quite frankly it's too much work. It's too much thought process and just too much. There are other ways to hate on Legends with spelling out Legends. And if there weren't, there definitely is a cleaner way. It's too limited, too underwhelming, and mostly definitely something I want to open up.
WINNER: Asrama. Awarded is simplicity.

and the wildcard Kenaron.
Out of the three remaining contestands, Kenaron's was the only one that had great design and the only reason he lost was because of some numbering issues.
I'll give two days to get any issues resolved and make the new set of dares due Sunday.
Edit - I changed my mind. Make a card to work as a cycle with Gerrard's Verdict and Gerrard's Command. It should cost either WUor RW, and can be common or uncommon.
Make a tribal or Tribal card for a tribe that has not been supported in a tribal block. To clarify, Goblin King is a tribal card because it positively effects creatures of the Goblin type and Boggart Shenanigans is Tribal clearly, but Goblins have been supported in both Lor/Sha block as well as Onslaught.
Make a card to work as a cycle with Gerrard's Verdict and Gerrard's Command. It should cost either WUor RW, and can be common or uncommon.
So besides the name being "Gerard's (Insert Noun)" all it needs to have to do with those is the cost? I might be missing what kind of cycle is being asked for, this seems like it might be a trick challenge.
Yeah Kenaron, just make a Gerrard's something or other, I assume it would be an instant or sorcery that elegantly combines mechanics from the two colors like the existing two cards do, but whatever.
I'll make Minotaur Tribal or something, challenge accepted.
Anaba Elder1R
Creature - Minotaur Shaman
Minotaur spells you play cost 1 less to play. 1R: Target Minotaur creature gains first strike until end of turn. If that creature has first strike, it gains double strike instead. "Remember your strength, and Sandruu will walk amongst us again."
1/1
I would just like to say that all of these were excellent cards and I really had to think about which people I wanted to see in the final round.
After you read your fate, please do the following.
-Address any issues
-Post your next dare if you passed.
But honestly amazing round.
A BR combat trick that absolutely owns. Capable of working both on offensive and defensive, this one shot wither granting card can punch a hole in an opponent's line of critters. The designer is simple and elegant and everything comes together in a nice package. It holds it's beauty in the new world of 2010 and could have easily been part of Shadowmoor.
A Mono blue critter that is remniscent of older blue aggressive one drops and I must say it lives up to the legacy. The yetiness of the card really shows and I'd love to open a few of these for an MUA deck. Yet a few problems arise. First off, it's a minor compliant, but I really feel like the snow supertype would have really supported your cause here. It even has it in its name. I know stuff like Glacial Fortress lacks it, but it's a yeti for goodness sake. Secondly, it's return to play ability becomes a hefty draw back, instead of an interesting mechanic because of the current changes in 2010 to combat.
This is a tough call, because I really do love both cards. If I could pass both, I would, but since I can't, I have to pass Asrama because I literally have nothing bad to say about the card.
That sure is a gambit. For two mana you can get anywhere from wasting two mana to get a full +3/+3 boost if you're lucky. It's like a sigil blessing balancing a steriods shot. It's in flavor, it combines the best of both colors and has just enough support from a certain thumb that It'll be great in causaul. Coin flipping isn't my favorite mechanic, but you did it justice here.
A minotaur lord? Not a big fan of forgotten tribal, but for some reason something really clicked with me. It wasn't the cost reduction, it wasn't the mana cost, but the ability. It's a minotaur that teaches first strike and then proceeds to teach those who have it, double strike. I mean, how much more flavor can you put in that? It's not my favorite card of the round, but I have to give you major props for pulling this off.
The victor of this round is Gerrard's Mom. It's alsmost too close to call as both cards were excellently designed. When it came down to it though, the uniqueness of the minotaur mentor outweighted the oscillated power level of the Gambit.
Haha I had a feeling that might happen. And doubly ironic when you consider I remember seeing the two first strikes = double strike mechanic on an Asrama card somewhere, didn't you have a post about a keyword-based set? Gotta run to mask making class, er, challenge is to make a nonred mono-colored split card.

Yep, that was my idea, I've posted on something like five different custom cards, I liked it that much. I'll forgive you a little plagiarism, though .
Challenge accepted, card coming soon. Why did it had to be nonred? I had such a great card called Young//Restless...
Nonred was because red was done in Planar Chaos. If you would really rather do a red card, I don't mind, just thought there might be more space in other colors.
Ha, no, I was just kidding. I'll use Young//Restless' blue counterpart, Old//Tired, which was a better card anyways:

Here's a fae on a Tower, which we know nothing about, but can assume is important. Than again, the flavor text is brilliant enough to make for a crucial piece of flavor. Then again, it's design that's what at stake here. And the translation works. The Cheatyface mechanic plays suprising well into an Un-Un world (real for short), and the wording makes it unique and fun. Yet, the one thing I would have liked to see is a more intimidating body. For free, a 1/1 with flying is a pesk, that can be handled, but the question becomes if someone should even bother. For two mana, it's a bit underwhelming. I wouuld have liked to see a 2/1 at the very least to make it a bit more aggressive, but I can see the logic behind the 1/1 status. I love the mechanic, but I wish there was a bit more to the execution.
Asrama
While Gerrard's Mom made a great mechanic, Asrama nailed the Spilt Card Design philosophy and I have to crown him victor.
You recieve bragging rights and the ownership of the 6th Double Dare Single Elimination if you do desire.
GM, while I love your transition of Cheatyface, I had one problem with your card: It's type. Faeries are already a powerful tribe, getting a free faerie in, even as a 1/1, seems to me like something that, while I won't call it broken, is also not something I can predict how it will work out, and therefore doubt it will ever get printed. This is a known problem with most free spells, which is why I would have avoided making a free card that could go into one of the more popular archetypes currently in standard.

Let Judgment Be Passed.
Old///Tired. Clever name, though Young and Restless would have been a cool card to see too. But let's see what we have on this mono blue spilt card. Old is an Ancestral Recall with a clause that makes me wonder how often it would actually see play. Tired is classic blue manipulation with a mana cost that makes me cringe b/c 5 for untap step, 7 for two, and an 3+(n+2) recursion formula makes it slightly unwieldly. Both cards invidivually I wouldn't want to see in my booster at rare. But, even though inidiviudally they aren't the greatest cards in the world, together they sorta epitomize what spilt cards are supposed to be like. Cards that are niche, strangely cost, and prized not for their power level, but for their verstality. While not my favorite card, I can't deny that it is well design and appropiately powered.
