FCC Rules n' Regulations:
Art: If you use any art that is not your own, make sure you have the express consent of the artist or give credit to him/her/it.
Timing: Rounds always end at Midnight Eastern Standard Time on the day given in the round (Midnight Monday means right when Monday becomes Tuesday, eg). Any edits of submissions or submissions after this will lead to disqualification. Judges may post judges at any point after this to keep a round moving.
Threads: Every FCC will have quite a few threads associated with it, and here are their various descriptions/rules.
>>>>Sign-Up Threads - These will generally be posted about a week to ten days before the first of a new month. Please don't discuss anything on the threads unless directly asked to by me or another moderator.
>>>>Player List - The player list is a simple list of players, judges, and a link to the judge sign-up thread in case a replacement is needed. This thread really shouldn't be posted on.
>>>>Rounds - Every FCC is made up of 4 rounds, which will have that round's challenge, the match list, and the judging list. The 4th round is always a 'free-for-all,' where every judge judges every card, and the winner is whatever card has the highest total score. Please do not post on these threads if you are not a judge or a player in that round. Players can include their round information (match #, opponent, judge, etc) to help speed up judging, but it is not required.
>>>>Results - These will be posted in the "Card of the Month" subforum of contests. Feel free to discuss the cards with decency (keep in mind these posts go on the front page)
Wanted to put together one clean rules and discussion thread (to lessen the number of stickied threads at any given time), and didn't want to keep editing your start post..
Anyway, I will say this much about the FCC: Could we consider a hard schedule? For example, let's take August.
August 1st until midnight, August 5th->6th: Round 1
August 6th until noon, August 8th: Round 1 Judging
August 8th (noon) until midnight, August 8th-9th: Round 1 Judging (emergency timeframe)
---
August 9th until midnight, August 13th->14th: Round 2
August 14th until noon, August 15th: Round 2 Judging
August 15th (noon) until midnight, August 15th->16th: Round 2 Judging (emergency timeframe)
---
August 16th until midnight, August 20th->21st: Round 3
August 21st until noon, August 22nd: Round 3 Judging
August 22nd (noon) until midnight, August 22nd->23rd: Round 3 Judging (emergency timeframe)
---
August 23rd until midnight, August 27th->28th: Round 4
August 28th until midnight, August 29th->30th: Round 4 Judging
---
August 30th until September 1st: Cleanup (any last-minute corrections, renders being given, etc.)
---
It seems like if we did that every month, we'd never run behind.
If it's not demanding too much, is it possible to randomize the matchups each round? It might be more fun if we didn't know who'd we be up against in the coming rounds...
I agree with nightshift on this one.. because right now to a certain extent its a wait until your opponent posts and then try to make a card that is better/more balanced/flavorful than theirs type game
I made this little document about what I've learned in past FCC's that help me with future matches (to prove that what judges write about their rulings isn't completly irrelevant)...

Nope, what I meant is that the player list gets shuffled before the round starts... currently, whenever, say, round 1 starts, my opponent is almost always the guy who registers one post ahead or after me.
But I see your point, that's also a ground for improving the fun factor
@Fear Mage: Thanks, I agree with your insights, things we learn each round are as valuable as winning. Although I don't think I'd be breaking round restrictions any time soon
Hey, Fear Mage, would you mind posting that file in something other than WordPad 97? Nothing on this computer can read that file. Even Internet Explorer gags on it.
Is this any better... I tried saving it in WordPad, but the icon kept looking like the Microsoft Word icon... I'll try something else if it doesn't work.
Also, I wasn't endorsing breaking round restrictions... just saying with the card I had, it (barely) worked out for me in the end.
Yeah, but mosquitos don't suck out gallons of blood at a time.
Marsh Mosquito + full hand + 2 hits = You're at 4 life, I'm at 34 life.
He also hit upon two other valid points: the brand name reference is a no-no, and mosquitos generally do one of two things: fly, or die.
Then you should have made him more expensive. Or turned him into something else. He didn't HAVE to be an insect, y'know.
SOS - You had used 22 of your 24 hours already when Stax judged your match for you. Between that and the knowledge that you're notorious for being late when you judge, I don't really blame him.
the reason i didn't want him to fly was because he was too cheap. i guess the off! was bad, but .... 4 for flavour
Omen
Generally, what I do for flavor is the following formula:
Everyone starts at base level 8...
+2 points if it's a really cool and never been done before card
+/-3 point if the card fits the function flavorwise
-2 points for no flavor text or faulty flavor text
And other miscellaneous things...
Pretty much, I took off for the following:
- Name is curiously close to Swamp Mosquito
- It's a mosquito that doesn't fly
- It's a tiny bug that can kill a savannah lion
- If it hits a player, it sucks more blood than a vampire can dream of
- Flavor text refernces a brand-name product
- Picture is a photograph
Please do not compare my judging with other judges, as they have their own relative system whereas I have my own... A 4 for one judge may still mean a better card than a 4 for another judge...
Your opponent on the other hand had a curiouslyflavorful card with an ability never done before and all parts fitting together from "Shapegiver" to changing everything... Only errors I saw were misunderstandings in flavor text and a formatting error on creature line...
I thought the power level was quite well-adjusted, thus the 9 for balance... You drain them a lot of life, but usually not more than 7ish.. Plus with black's record of low hand counts and a 1/1 body and no built-in evasion, it's easy to handle...
Yeah, i guess your right. The reason I didn't make it a vampire though, was because most vampires deal with killing creatures and then getting stronger. I didn't even know there was a card called swamp mosqito. I used marsh mosquito because of the alliteration. I guess I screwed up on the flavour text. O well, maybe I'll do better next time.
He's just rising to my defense, since I wasn't here. You're match was accelerated because I'll be on vacation next month, so I needed as much of a time pillow so whoever replaces me doesn't have to do too much work.

A judge is a person.
Judgment is a skill, or the decision of a judge.
They are two different things.

I think this theme puts a whole lot of flavor emphasis on card naming.
