The great evil lifted its wings and flew toward the gathering darkness. It reached its ebon malevolence out into the worlds. Soon it would be free again.
Waegen waved the smoke from the warrior’s charred remains away from her face. Who knew goblins would smell even worse when they were cremated? At least the torch-bearer was able to give her the last bit of information she needed before it immolated itself.
She stalked around the massive city until she reached the meeting place with her stuffy companion. Her natural elven stealth aided her well in the darkened and dangerous streets of what was once called Ravnica. She wasn’t too surprised to find Brus already waiting for her.
The vedalken was leaning over some fragments of ivory.
“Not done yet?” she said as she walked into the abandoned warehouse.
Brus jumped up and blue energy flashed from his finger tips before he saw her and let the mana disperse back into the air.
“Oh, it’s just you Waegen. Try not to startle me in the most evil city I’ve ever been to, won’t you?”
Waegen just smiled and walked over to him. “What you got there?”
He looked down and rolled some of the pieces on the table in front of him. “What’s left of a statue. It used to be my source of information before some gargoyle turned it to stone. I think I basically got all the information I could out of it anyway. Did you find anything.”
“Sure did. I found a bunch of goblins that have heard of that Serra chick.”
“Well, I’ve done one better. I’ve found out where her plane is.”
Waegen circled around him. She tried to hide that how impressed she was, and, more so, that he had beaten her. “Pft, I already knew that a long time ago. I was just killing time on these goblins because I got bored waiting for you to catch up.”
The smile on Brus’s face faded back into his normal dour complexion. “Alright, then I suppose you’ll have to continue to wait until Molbanni returns for us.”
“Retuns,” she asked. “Come on, Brusey, that old man told us our mission. We find out where the Serra girl is and then we find her. If you’re so sure you know where she is, let’s just go.”
Brus put a long blue finger up and his eyes followed her as she paced the room. “I don’t think that’s a such a good idea. We should wait to hear Molbanni’s plan of action and then—”
“Shut up. Shutupshutupshutup. Listen, we’ve waited long enough. One more night out here and I’m going to go insane. Just take me hand and let’s ‘walk out of here.” Waegen held her hand out to him and glared at him impatiently.
“I’m still not sure that’s a good—”
Brus was interrupted again when dozens of goblins burst through the boarded windows and rushed toward them with heavy lit torches.
“Oops, I think it’s time to go. These guys weren’t too happy when they found out who I was.” Waegen grabbed hold of Brus’s hand and kicked him in the shin. “Now or never, blue boy.”
***
Waegen opened her eyes to a spiraling utopia of vine-covered pillars and lush forests growing out of floating clouds. She had to cover her eyes from the brilliant light after so many weeks spent on world that only knew darkness.
When her vision adjusted a tall, beautiful angel stood before her. She dressed modestly, but no amount of humility could hide her regality.
“I am Serra. You are welcomed to my realm. Please, come to my palace, there are few things I enjoy more in this life than talking with visitors.”
Both of them felt compelled to follow her, if not by some kind of magical influence than by her sweet voice that seemed to sing to their very hearts.
She led them to a grand library in the middle of a forest clearing. She invited them to sit and they told her the whole story of Molbanni and the spreading darkness.
“Yes,” Serra said, “I had a fear that this might happen. Long, long ago, on Ravnica, there was a dragon-child that created a similar plague—one that turned day into permanent night and twisted all of the world’s inhabitants into evil mockeries of their former selves. Ravnica held a special place for me, it was where I met my late husband, Feroz, and so we went there and ended up killing the dragon responsible.”
Waegen looked at Brus. He seemed as surprised as she did felt.
“It turned out that this dragon had learned of the technique from its progenitor. We tried to find the creature, my husband and I, but we were never able to track it down. We created that barrier on Ravnica to make sure that no other creature would find the terrible secret.”
“It would seem that someone found out,” Brus said.
“Duh,” Waegen said under her breath.
“Yes, it seems so. My husband was able to reverse the corruption, but I’m not sure how he did so. My skill lies in preventing evil from occurring—his skill was in rectifying existent evil.”
“So what are we supposed to do now?” Waegen asked.
“Perhaps the best way to find out is to find out which dragon created this magic in the first place. The best way I know of is to ask the Ur-Dragon. That being has a knowledge of every dragon that has ever existed and all dragons that will ever exist. It should be able to tell us where the dragon we seek is.”
“Where is this Ur-Dragon?”
“I can take you there,” Serra said. “I think I can leave my realm alone for a time. It would take quite a spell to break down my protective auras and holy relics that protect this world.
“Let us go find the cause of this catastrophe.”
Oh Serra, do you know nothing of hubris? As this magical plague spreads through the multiverse, are any of you CCLers really surprised that Serra's Realm might not be as safe as she may think it is?
The challenge this time around is to create a spell that Brus and Waegen's enemies will use to get past Serra's defenses while she's gone.
Team Waegen Challenge
Make a mystic rare red or green card that destroys artifacts. The flavor must fit an evil version of Serra's (new) Realm.
Team Brus Challenge
Make a mystic rare white or blue card that destroys enchantments. The flavor must fit an evil version of Serra's (new) Realm.
Now that we've seen some mystic rares we can take a stab at making some. We haven't seen too many though so you get some creative license. You also get to create a card from Serra's Realm. This is a new plane that she created sometime after Feroz died and well after Serra's original realm was destroyed by Urza (in Urza's Sega block). Feel free to use the first one as an example, but I was thinking this was more of a plane of white/green with a smattering of blue/red (almost Bantish).
(Feel free to check my math. Don't forget that you get -1 if you don't submit a t3.)
Hope everyone is enjoying this month's CCL so far. Critiques start at noon (Eastern time) 17 Oct or when everyone's put up a card. Critiques end midnight on the 20th. Good luck!
I concur. One of main allure of the contest to me was the feedback I would get on my card design.
BTW, excellent story so far.

and about lorgalis' coment, sorry about that =/ I've been kind of irresponsible this month in the CCL (I didn't even submited a card last round), so I'll try to get this more serious and judge all the cards. I don't think that's fare (is this how I write? =S) with you guys not to get the score, even because I know the frustration of making a card and don't get anyone's attention.

Thanks for all the positive story feedback. Glad everyone is enjoying the tale so far. :D:D:D
I share Lorgalis's sadness about the lack of critiques/t3s last round. I fear it may have been my fault for not posting the deadlines for cards/critiques well enough (for future reference the deadlines are pretty much always going to be 1.5 days).
In light of that, this time only, I'll let anyone who didn't get a chance to post t3s or critiques last round to put them on the last thread. If you PM them to me too I'll update the points accordingly. I'll give you until the start of round 4.
Doda: At last I'm on GiftsTrix's T3. Could you update the rankings, please?
That seems fair. GiftsTrix, L0ng5h0t, Silk, and Lorgalis are all updated in the first post of this thread (note that that changed some of the rankings).
And question for team Waegen. can the card be any other colors as long as it's red or green as well?
I'm going to say no here. I'm trying really hard not to let any of you take the easy way out and make an "evil" card that has black in it. If you realllly want to make a red or green card with either blue or white in it, I'd probably be more forgiving though. Then again, I'm not the one critiquing.
--
@Dodavehu: U said "red", no "monored". I took your words as my guide when I designed the card I like so much I posted. I think that u should specify carefuly the task before posting it. So, what I wanna know is if my card fits into the new parameters of the round or not, because I'm confused (my card isn't black).

BlackBull and others: I'm pretty lenient with the the requirements. I'm perfectly fine with that card. I'm trying to leave the requirements a bit more ambiguous than some of you are used to in order to give more creative room. Interpret at your own risk though--I don't ask or even encourage the rest of the CCLers to be nearly as forgiving as I am during the critiquing round.

6/6
Catarax
-Not loving the picture, but the rest of the card is cool
-I feel like it could have been a 4/4 with no problem, because hill giant stats on a 4cc creature seems wrong.
-I love the way it supports Mono-Red's stragem
-It's a potent card, that's definitely unique, but really lacks that true 'wow factor'
-It works, and I want to work, but it's just sorta lacking in its 'stage pressence'
Long5h0t
-Pretty myhtic, I'd say.
-You know other than the regenerate ability which 97.2% of time is useless, the entire thing just screams fun
-The concept of Living Flame permates through the screen and says play me, just never use my third mode.
-Let me reiterate. Sorcery speed regeneration=BAD
-Other than so Cool
Silkenfist
-The keyword to this card is 'elegance' because that's really want this card is about. Other than the fact this should probably dip into some other color, like white or black, it's just beautiful to behold because it's so simple, yet amazing when you think of it's application.
BlackBull
-Other than Angel tribal being something really unpleasant to think about, I like the concept, power level, and over all feel.
-It's a nice balance of the two colors, and even though it could have been, it couldn't have been an angel could it?
-My reservations of this card stem from angel tribal, but other than that, I like it's simplicity.
Lorgalis
-You could have just left the render as is, without designing a second card. I'm just going to ignore that because it adds an entire new layer of questions that don't to be answered or responded to.
-Flavorwise, Iconoclasm really isn't the best word for the dude's ability, though the abilities are synergetic enough-ish, though slightly disjointed from a mechanical stand point (slight mess up on my part)
-Powerwise, nearly pitch perfect
-It's somewhere between rare and MR level for me.
-Cool concept, decent execution
FruiouslySleepingIdea
-I like the concept, but the whole treefolk in an Angel's realm doesn't really resonate with me
-Ignoring that, it's actually abilities are useful, though considering it's sheer size, and survivablity, I really wish the activation cost was upped and the tap cost just removed just so I could attack with this bad and then beproactive about the next artifact.
Autumn Willow
???
MindWrencher
-From where exactly does this 'artifact' come from, because that basically defines how broken this card is in my head, because something is telling me that I could basically loop some mana generation and burn the entire thing to the ground, especially considering that I could also loop cheap creatures for sacrifice fodder, come into play effects, etc.
-I usually won't do this, but if you want to explain where the card comes from go for it, and I may change my mind
-But, a 1/1 for 2 with more amusing flavor text, and less awesome pressence, I wouldn't really count on it.
-I will say that with it's edit, it's not as broken as I thought it could be, and that it's a fun johnny card that would be enjoyable with some other artificers.
-Alas though, I can't really put you in the T3.
Ace
???
Kami of Randomness
Limited in application and effect, I'd much rather the new Blaze Dragon in Shards, then this. It's scope is too small, it's effect somewhat random, it really isn't worthy of mythic rare when all the dragons at rare outclass it
-Good try, but no luck
T3
1. Silken
2. Longshot
3. BlackBull/Lorgalis (Because both cards are cool, and I honestly can't decide. I was switching my mind between both, the whole iconoclast misread on my part, skewed, and I can't really decide between the two. do as you wish.)
1. Solesticio - Another interesting design, but feels like it should be GW not WU. Also it feels less than mythic to me, though a solid legendary rare.
2. serotonin - Despite the restrictive mana cost, the most troubling thing about this card is the 1-sided armageddon. If you're ever in a 8-way FFA and one of your opponents is packing mono white, you'd be sure he's got 4 of these in his deck. In a duel or in limited this card is less effective and more balanced. The flavor is awesome, though.
3. 1T4 - I like how this card deals with artifacts in a very blue way, yet handles enchantments in a very white way. All in all very nice, though the flavor is a bit thin.
4. GiftsTrix - I like all the abilities here, though since it's a planeswalker I have a hard time pinning it down as a mythic or not :/. Nice design though.
5. Alabran - Interesting design, shades of vindicate I think, though this could very easily be monowhite. At the very least it feel like it should have WW in it's cost.
1st: Seratonin (I still thinking this is strictly much better than mass calcify)
2nd: IT4 (hmmm why two cards? isn't clear wich one is the oficial one, and that represents an advantage agains other members of the team). I selected the second one, because I think the enchantment is overpowered.
3rd: Gifstrix (hey man, just try to make a bit deeper check around the spelling next time :/ (too cluncky)
By the way, I'm dropping. Good luck to all other contestants! ^^ (just in case that dropping isn't the right word, I'm leaving the competition.)

I don't think that's fare (is this how I write? =S) with you guys not to get the score, even because I know the frustration of making a card and don't get anyone's attention.
Legendary Creature - Treefolk Shaman
Reach
:1mana::symg::symtap:: Remove target artifact from the game. Put an X/X green elemental creature token into play, where X is that artifact's converted mana cost.
Greater unnatural acts inspire greater retribution.
5/9
I share Lorgalis's sadness about the lack of critiques/t3s last round. I fear it may have been my fault for not posting the deadlines for cards/critiques well enough (for future reference the deadlines are pretty much always going to be 1.5 days).
In light of that, this time only, I'll let anyone who didn't get a chance to post t3s or critiques last round to put them on the last thread. If you PM them to me too I'll update the points accordingly. I'll give you until the start of round 4.
Speaking of Lorgalis:
That seems fair. GiftsTrix, L0ng5h0t, Silk, and Lorgalis are all updated in the first post of this thread (note that that changed some of the rankings).
Sorry, I don't think I'm understanding this sentence. I'm probably just dense. Which member of team Brus are you talking about?
I'm going to say no here. I'm trying really hard not to let any of you take the easy way out and make an "evil" card that has black in it. If you realllly want to make a red or green card with either blue or white in it, I'd probably be more forgiving though. Then again, I'm not the one critiquing.

Sorry school was hell this week and I completely missed the T-3s I will go put them up now
Also
@Dodavehu: As I said last round look at my 1st round scores
Black Bull put me in spot one as did Lorgalis, Silkenfist put me in third and I won the mechanic thing, that is 8 points for Round 1+a 2nd and 3rd place for round 2 -1 point for no top 3 giving me a running total of 10 not 7

Oh, I see now. Duh.
Yeah, that's true. I put an incorrect total for your first round score. It's fixed now. Thanks for double checking--I'm much better with words than numbers I'm afraid

Fair enough.
Remember to PM if you decide to put t3s/critiques up after the fact this round. (I'm looking at you BlackBull :monocle:.)

-
Flavorwise, Iconoclasm really isn't the best word for the dude's ability, though the abilities are synergetic enough-ish, though slightly disjointed from a mechanical stand point (slight mess up on my part)-Powerwise, nearly pitch perfect

Double Dare That Designer: The 2nd Single Elimination Contest
Top 3
1. GiftsTrix
2. 1T4
3. Alabran

Survivor- CCS: Lost in Takenuma, CCS: Stranded In Tolaria
2nd: IT4 (hmmm why two cards? isn't clear wich one is the oficial one, and that represents an advantage agains other members of the team). I selected the second one, because I think the enchantment is overpowered.
3rd: Gifstrix (hey man, just try to make a bit deeper check around the spelling next time :/ (too cluncky)
By the way, I'm dropping. Good luck to all other contestants! ^^ (just in case that dropping isn't the right word, I'm leaving the competition.)
