There was a great rolling in a place that wasn't. An eye opened and lit the void. The eye saw further than existence, further than time can allow. Reality itself trembled as the sleeper was finally roused.
The air around Brus stretched and then snapped back. He opened his eyes to a new plane.
He was a planeswalker. Yet he'd never quite got used to it.
Brus surveyed the area. He stood in the center of an ancient mossy henge. It was dark, too dark even for midnight. The circle of stones was surrounded by a field of dark grass as far as he could see. To his great surprise he was not alone. An elderly, dark-skinned human with a neatly trimmed beard and long cloak extended a hand to him.
"Planeswalker Brus, I presume? My name is Coiloon Molbanni, this," he motioned behind him to a figure leaning against one of the stone monoliths, "is Planeswalker Waegen. I must apologize, but I've taken you off course and brought you here. I have a proposition for you both."
The elven woman who must have been Waegen walked over and crossed her arms. She looked them both over. Brus took the oppurtunity to examine her. She might have had delicate elven features at some point in her life, but they had long since been hardened and scared through what could only have been centuries of fighting. Her long greenish hair was wild and twisted with sticks, bones, and other less desirable things. She had a short bow slung over her shoulder which glowed dimmly with runes. "Yeah well, I don't really work well with others Moly Binny."
"That's actually Molbanni. And the two of you won't actually have to work together. The two of you were chosen for this task precisely because of your ability to work well without supervision." He pulled out a long metal staff that had been hidden under his grey cloak. "You were also chosen because you have demonstrated time and again you masteries over innovation. This task will take a strong mind as well as a heroic spirit.
Brus couldn't help by be flattered. He crossed his long blue arms in a stance unintentionally mirroring Waegen's. "What's the task?"
Molbanni smiled and lifted his staff. The end of it, which had a fierce-looking dragon's head carved into it, lit up with unnatural light. Brus could see the grass in the plain around them and realized what made it so dark--nearly every blade was stained with splotches of what could only be blood.
Before either of them could react to this Molbanni spoke, "This was the site of a great battle. Beings that called themselves gods fought the climax of a great war on this very field. This world was once called Trauth, but now it is known as Andlat, "death" in the native tongue. Tragic, but none of that concerns us right now though, what really matters is the sky."
Brus and Waegen instinctly looked up at the moonless sky.
"It's midnight," Molbanni said.
"So?" Waegen said.
"The sun hasn't risen for nearly 50 years."
Brus and Waegen's eyes both widened.
"It seems that something has devoured all of this plane's light."
"But wait," Brus said, "wouldn't that make us freeze to death. With no sun to heat us, all life would--"
"No, you don't understand," Molbanni said. "It hasn't merely taken the sun, it has sapped all goodness from this plane. Every hope and dream and ounce of decency on this entire world has been extinguished."
"What could do something like that?" Waegen asked, losing her composure for the first time.
"I'm not sure yet. But that's not the bad part."
"What could possibly be worse?" Brus asked.
"It is spreading."
"Spreading?" they both whispered in unison.
"Yes, and unless you two help me stop it, this plague of evil will spread through the entire multiverse."
Welcome to the Card Creation League of October 2008! As you can see, this month we're going to try to save the multiverse, or help tear it apart.
Some kind of evil plague of epic proportions has started to spread to various planes of the multiverse. One casualty is our plane from CCL September! It seems that it's too late to save our beloved Trauth, but our heroes can study the damage and hopefully find a cure and, even more importantly, a method of prevention.
The first 20 posters to meet the following challenge before October 1st 10am Eastern (be careful of your editing timestamps) will progress to the first round.
And so, without further ado, the first challenge.
Create a card that uses an existing Wizards mechanic twisted by evil (think Scry vs. Fateseal). Additionally, this card's flavor has to match that of the September's CCL setting of Trauth.
Good luck!
EDIT: Oops! Almost forgot. Tell me whether you'd like to follow Brus, the blue and white aligned Vedalken, or Waegen, the green and red aligned Elf. --
Here's the general idea, might need some refinement though.
The Exiled Dead1BB
Creature - Zombie Warrior [R]
Whenever a nontoken creature is put into a graveyard from play, if The Exiled Dead is face down, turn it face up.
Skulk 1B(Whenever another creature comes into play, pay 1B. Otherwise, turn this creature face down. It becomes a 2/2 creature and gains shroud until end of turn.) Forever barred from Valhalla for their role in the destruction of Trauth, they hide their shame in the bowels of the earth.
4/3
Twisted Graft
Plague Spewer 2BB
Creature - Zombie Mutant
Pustle 2 (This creature comes into play with two -1/-1 counters on it. Whenever another creature comes into play, you may move a -1/-1 counter from this creature onto it.)
B: Target creature with a -1/-1 counter on it gains fear until end of turn. "I've lived with this poison all my life, now you shall do the same." 3/3
In for Brus
To him,
Nothing has worth
Unless it belongs
To someone else.
It is not the lust for wealth
That drives him
Simply the hunter's thrill,
And the moment
Of acquisition.
Nothing is truly your own.
It is his –
Whether you know it or not.

The "P" in my name comes from a magicthegathering.com article in which they were contemplating adding a sixth color to Magic for Planar Chaos. here is a link to that article
Disbeliefed Seeker2BBB
Creature - Human Minion
Monstrify 2 (This comes into play with two -1/-1 counters on it. As this comes into play, remove a -1/-1 counter from it for each human and/or minion card you reveal in your hand.)
At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card and lose 1 life for each -1/-1 counter on Disbeliefed Seeker. "I know I'll still find Master Sleipnir... I just wonder how much will I keep waiting for him..."
5/4
Monstrify = Evil Amplify =D
Monstrify X(This comes into play with X -1/-1 counters on it. As this comes into play, remove a -1/-1 counter from it for each card that shares a creture type with this you reveal in your hand.)
Filth Drinker 1BB
Creature - Hag
Swamplust - If defending player controls a swamp, ~ gains +2/+1 until end of turn. The crone's poisons are gathered from their native lands, but they don't last long.
2/2
Long Boat Docks
Land
Smuggle (As this card comes into play, you may look at the top four cards of target opponent's library and remove one of those cards from the game face down, then put the rest of the cards on the top of their deck in any order) T: Add U to your mana pool U,T:If you have more than eight cards in your hand, you may play that card without playing its mana cost Smuggle = Warped Hideaway.
I'm both a valiant and clever person; abrasive and quick-witted with my own unique set of standards. What I value in my life is autonomy, power, and righteousness; I do whatever I want so long as I fell that it is justified by my own principles, damn what others think. At my best I am glorious, exciting, and courageous; at my worst I am merciless, destructive, and violent.
Bounced Flames :1mana::symr::symw: Instant
~ deals 4 damage to target creature or player. You gain 2 life.
Recoil (Any opponent may play this card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then remove it from the game.)
Forebode - 1R: Target player may reveal a land from his or her hand. If he or she does not, destroy target land that player controls. (Play this ability only during your upkeep and only once a turn.)
Fenrir's Hounds power and toughness are both equal to the number of land cards in all graveyards.
Limbripper4RB
Creature - Elemental Horror
Haste
Intimidate 2 (Creatures this blocks get -2/-2 until end of turn. When this becomes blocked, each blocking creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.) As the war of the gods escalated in ferocity, thousands of spectres arose as testaments to the death and bloodshed sweeping the land.
4/4
Evil Bushido.
As for my choice of following, I've made way too many blue cards lately. I'll go with Waegen.
Skran, The Fallen General 3BRG
Legendary Creature-Wolf Spirit (M)
Cumulative Decay - 1
Shadow, Haste
Whenever a creature comes into play, ~ deals damage equal to it's power to it, and it deals damage equal to it's power to ~.
[The final battle of Ragnarok took away his sight, hearing, and mortal form. Now destined to wander the plane trapped in the shadows that bind him, attacking anything and everything in his path, poisioning the landscape around him]
6/4
Cumulative Decay- # (at the beggining of your upkeep put an age counter on ~, and target opponent may pay # for each age counter on ~ or sacrifice a permanent.)
Rage of the Fallen :4mana::symr: Tribal Instant - Warrior
Pyre :3mana::symr: (You may play this for its pyre cost if a giant was put into your graveyard from play this turn.) ~ deals 4 damage to target player. If ~'s pyre cost was paid, it deals 2 damage to each creature that player controls.
Pyre is a twisted version of prowl.
I'll follow Waegen, but I really could work on either team.
Plight of the Wicked :symu::symu::symb::symb:
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, each player puts the top three cards from his or her library into their graveyard.
Hallucination :symu::symb: (If this card would be put into your graveyard from your library, you may play it for its hallucination cost instead of putting it into your graveyard).
A twisted Madness, of course.
Kangaroo Court
Legendary Land
If a 'criminal' would deal damage to you or a creature you control, remove it from the game.
Doom WB, Reveal this card from your hand- Target creature becomes a 'criminal' in addition to its other creature types (This does not end at the end of the turn) (Play this ability only as you end your turn and only once per turn). They only have one verdict and only one punishment.

Muspellheim Hellion2RR
Creature-Hellion

Tenderizer Parasite1BB
Creature - Horror Insect U B, T: Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
Contagion 1B(The next time another activated ability of this permanent is played, copy it for each time you paid this permanent's contagion cost. You may choose new targets for the copies.)
