Greetings, Leaguers! Welcome to the Finals poll of the March CCL.
The task was simple, yet devious. Create a prerelease card for an already created Non-Core set that emulates the flavor and abilities of the set in a unique way. Without any further ado, let us meet the contenders.
Sandruu, Anaba Scholar2UR
Summon Legend (rare) T: The next instant, interrupt or sorcery you play this turn has, “Draw a card at the beginning of the next turn’s upkeep.”
3/4
Kodama of the West Tree - 2GG Legendary Creature - Spirit
Shroud, Defender
You may splice cards in your graveyard onto Arcane as though they were in your hand.
2/5 "The monks of the West Tree were spared the pain of fighting their own Kodama, dealing with it's presence alone was enough of a problem."
- "Poem of the Five Trees"
At the sound of the bell, everybody vote for your favorites.

I don't always play Jank, but when I do, I play Saffronolive.
Alabran proves once more that Kodamas are just awesome!
Seriously, I like the splice mechanic a lot. I just think there should have some kind of a cost or condition so you just splice everything you see like crazy. But, then again, there aren't that much splicing cards to make this card crazy (unfortunately... I wish that there were more cool splice cards)
L0ng, you accepted my dare! The card feels just like a card from Homelands (except that it isn't totally awful!) and it's very cool (come on, who doesn't love minoutaurs :D).
Dragoon, your card is really great, and makes total sense flavorwise. Excellent card, but it is missing something that I can't quite put my finger on.

Thanks,
I really like splice, too. During Mirrodin/Kamigawa I made a G/W Spiritcraft control deck which got about as good as it would let me (Stalls forever with Waxmane Baku, Ghostly Prison, and Spiritual Visit splices. My favorite moment was when I was Cranial Extracted, and of the many bombs in my deck, Yosei, ***, Jitte, Even Oyobi, they took my Bakus.) I was really excited when I saw Spiritual Visit, but aside from that there was not too many really decent splice cards. As I remember, my favorites were Spiritual Visit, Blessed Breath, and Kodama's Might. The constant problem I had was deciding whether it was worth it to play my last spliceable card, or take whatever it was and wait to be able to save it for later. I was hoping something like this would be printed (or even just any manner of completing the Kodamas) but it never happened.
Longshot - Nice card for the block. The cantrip ability is a base of the set (which by the way had no set-specific keyword) and the character of Sandruu is a key player in the story. The one thing I miss is the "counts as a minotaur" note from old sets. The lack of flavor text is bad and would have given more flavor to the card.
Dragoon26 - Nice card and worthy representative of the set. The card itself seems a bit broken on the premise that it abuses the arcane and spirit cards. With its rulings and in black (High on discard) this could become too big too quick. Nice render and flavor text.
Alabran - Nice to see a Kodama that is not a copy of the others. The shroud and defender ability fits nice to show the contrast with the others kodamas as show in the flavor text. The main ability is very interesting and creative, the flavor text really gives this card its stand as a preview card.
And the winner is...
Alabran

"Those who endure in the face of suffering, those whose faith shines long in evil days, they shall see salvation." -Song of All, canto 904
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Wow, Sandruu seems to be getting a lot more love than I had expected. I wonder what would've happened had I actually gotten to finish the card I promise to have it polished and rendered by the time the poll closes just for grins.
Dragoon, Alabran, it's interesting that you both chose Kamigawa for your cards. Dragoon, your card is nuts. A 3/3 bushido 2 for 4 and it grows. Mr. Karuzo, please meet my zubera deck Not to mention the possible soulshift interactions. Definitely a bomb in limited, perfect for a pre-release. Nice render too. Alabran, Kodamas are cool, no doubt, but this one is also nuts. The ability to splice out of your graveyard without drawback is super strong, though I never played enough splice cards back in the day to get a handle on just how powerful this could be This would also have been a great pre-release card.
Both of your cards are very different and very cool. Since you obviously want this to be a difficult decision, I will have to think hard about which one I like better.

Just a few hours left, Alabran is looking like he's gonna steal this one in the 11th hour. The tension is so thick, you can cut it... *sniffs* Ewwwww, who cut the tension?
