Is the intention that any effect that would turn it into a creature turns it into the 5/5 instead? That was my interpretation of the ability the first time I read it.
I’m honestly not sure whether the rules play well with this type of replacement effect.Honestly, it seems easier to just do something like.

You have an interesting idea, you just need to do one of two things.
Make it more free-flowing (a totally free cast—based on conditions); or make it more interactive (base its abilities on other interactions, or keywords; and/or provide more keywords; and/or make the power toughness clench more unique.
Quick, but low power makes designs pop. Low power enables you to cut the cost, while also increasing interaction by extending the turn-exchange in the game (it takes more attacks to finish the game). When you key indestructible in, there are no setbacks either. High toughness is exactly the same, but kinda the opposite in terms of relevancy here (when you factor in indestructible).
Next step is to consider where the synergy is at. For example, say you give this trample and make it a wall, then Glyph of Destruction/Blazing Shoal/Berserk suit hold incredible synergy. You can also make it high power then, simply having trample and indestructible; where having defender just helps you to cut the costs. It then keys into bigger strategies with the synergy, when you start to factor in effects like Rage Nimbus and Arcades, the Strategist.
How in which you do any of these is up to you, but this is a great example of where to start from any given end.
Well, we now have Levitating Statue as a sort of template for this kind effect. (Flavor aside coz I still think it is weird for a Ring to become a massive metal thing but we'll let that slip for now)

I’m not sure it works that way, though. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that timestamps work such that a card effect turning this into a 4/4 or 0/0 with counters will virtually always be more recent than the static ability turning it into a 5/5 and that the effect with the newest time stamp will take priority.
Am I wrong here?
