To help the community have productive discussions, it’s good to make sure we are all working from the same basic expectations and understandings of how we are submitting our designs and what kind of feedback we are offering.
POSTING DESIGNS
For consistency, please format you card posts something like:
LLANOWAR ELF G
Creature – Elf Druid T: Add G.
1/1
If you want to update designs after the initial post, please leave the earlier versions in the thread so readers can track your changes.
If you want to add more designs to a thread, add them in a comment or grouped together in the original post, so readers can easily find them.
Utilize the Custom Set Forum if you are creating a large number of thematically connected cards, but feel free to post small batches in the main forum as you make them with a link to your set.
CREATING CARDS
If you are creating a card to share in the forum, it should be for the goal of getting feedback on the design, playability, templating, power level and “printability” of that card.
Unless you state otherwise, commenters assume your design is meant for a Magic Premier set (ex. Dominaria United, Streets of New Capenna). If you intend it for a set like a Commander precon or Modern Horizons or purely for Legacy, note that so that it can be evaluated as you intend.
Your designs should be based on the assumptions of Magic design and rules as they currently are. If you want to design something that requires changing rules or breaking with normal design expectations of things like the color pie, power level, etc. , you should explain your intention and why you want to do so so that commenters can understand and discuss your intentions.
Recognize that the feedback you receive is to help improve both your design and your abilities as a designer. Discussion of that feedback for better understanding is encouraged; arguing to try to “win” the discussion is not.
GIVING FEEDBACK
If you are commenting on another poster’s card, you should be offering good faith feedback about the areas mentioned above: design, playability, templating, power level and “printability”.
Focus on the card, not the poster. Constructive feedback is encouraged; personal criticism is not.
If you have given your feedback and the poster isn’t receptive, don’t argue - just move on.
To help the community have productive discussions, it’s good to make sure we are all working from the same basic expectations and understandings of how we are submitting our designs and what kind of feedback we are offering.
