As told you before, there is the term "excess damage" that handles pretty well that situation and a few other cases were damage is dealt by sources without trample.
So use it.
If blocking with this thing is going to redirect all excess damage to the controller, why would the attacking player assign excess damage at all?
Just make the thing remove trample from anything it blocks. That ends up being the correct play anyways. New players think trample is automatic and it's not.
