I wanted a card that both punished creatures dying and also forces the opponent to make difficult choices about dealing with it once its started spreading.
Since this is for the lovecraftian set, its vaguely based on some stories about otherworldy diseases that both harm the victim and drive them insane... okay, that's a lot of Lovecraft's stories. But anyway...
I'm on the fence about the mana cost for this one and making sure the wording is grokkable. Thoughts about balance/gameplay are welcome as well.
(also just saw the "may may" typo, so I've got that fixed.)
Your Enchant ability doesn't work. As soon as it is put onto the creature, the Enchant ability is now being violated and the Aura falls off. You should be able to say "another card named..." and be fine. Also, I am not sure if it is intentional, but the tokens can all gang up on one creature if you wanted them too since none are cards (though none can attach to the creature with the original Kiss). And, if so, it seems like the restriction isn't doing much anyway.
In fact, I might even lean into the idea that in order to be playable you shouldn't care about it stacking on a single creature. If the opponent has one creature, it doesn't work at all since you can't attach any copies to it. If they only have two, if you want each to have 1 copy, it isn't going to kill either one and then the other copies you create don't do anything.
It is interesting and it is sort of hard to cost. If you put it on something too small, they just target what it is on and you don't get the tokens. If not, then it sticks around and you might get more copies but the more creatures they have, the less chance you have of doing anything productive with them (if they can't stack anyway).
Good catch. I meant to put "another card" on there and it must have slipped through, and you're right that it would need to be "another permanent" since I was specifically trying to prevent stacking. That's also why the token trigger is a "may" ability< so you wouldn't be forced to put out more copies if they weren't going to be able to be attached somewhere.
I think part of the gameplay of this is going to be figuring out which creatures to put it on. Small creatures get the death triggers more easily, but the -1/-1 in the upkeep means the opponent can just wipe out all the infected cards in a go if they plan correctly and not have any more copies to deal with.
I could actually see changing it like this:
Enchant creature not enchanted by another permanent named Kiss of the Pestilent Mother
Enchanted creature has “At the beginning of your end step, another target creature you control gets -1/-1 until the end of turn.” and “When this creature dies, you lose 3 life.”
At the beginning of your upkeep you may create token that is a copy of Kiss of the Pestilent Mother.
That would make it easier for the infected player to get rid of the infected creatures once they've seen what's damaged in combat and whatnot, and hitting another creature means an X/1 cannot kill itself to keep from spreading.
