Hi everyone, this is my first attempt to make a cycle of cards, so they are probably not great. Any advice the community has would be greatly appreciated.
Eventually, this will be a cycle of 10 tricolor legendaries. They are very much a work in progress and I'm cool with sweeping changes. The goal is to make them all fairly equal in power, although that might be asking a lot of myself.
There is one new keyword mechanic that they all have, hopefully, it makes sense with the rules text. (Also, I realize vesseled isn't a word, can't think of a better option sadly.)
Blimbly, Bone of War2WBR
Legendary Artifact Creature - God Construct (M)
Haste
Vessel (as this creature enters the battlefield you may attach target nonartifact creature under your control to it.)
As long as Blimbly, Bone of War is vesseled, it gains the ability:
{t}, Sacrifice X goblins: Gain control of target creature with convereted mana cost X until end of turn, it gains haste.
4/2
Terinyx, Void of Day2WUB
Legendary Artifact Creature - God Construct (M)
Constructs you control have vigilance.
Vessel (as this creature enters the battlefield you may attach target nonartifact creature under your control to it.)
As long as Terinyx, Void of Day is vesseled, whenever one or more construct creatures you control deals damage to a player exile the top card of that player's library, you may play those cards as long as they remain in exile.
3/3
Leviath, Serpent of Graves2UBG
Legendary Artifact Creature - God Construct (M)
Deathtouch
Vessel (as this creature enters the battlefield you may attach target nonartifact creature under your control to it.)
As long as Leviath, Serpent of Graves is vesseled, at the beginning of your upkeep you may put the top five cards of your library into your graveyard, those cards gain retrace until the end of your next turn.
1/3
Rinicilis, Wing of Peace2WUG
Legendary Artifact Creature - God Construct (M)
Lifelink, Flying
Vessel (as this creature enters the battlefield you may attach target nonartifact creature under your control to it.)
As long as Rinicilis, Wing of Peace is vesseled, if you would gain life, you may instead add [sym=g] or [sym=w] mana to your mana pool until the end of turn.
5/5
Mirmornia, Thought of Man2UBR
Legendary Artifact Creature - God Construct (M)
Whenever you cast your first instant or sorcery spell per turn scry 1.
Vessel (as this creature enters the battlefield you may attach target nonartifact creature under your control to it.)
As long as Mirmornia, Thought of Man is vesseled, you may copy the first instant or sorcery spell cast on your turn. You may choose new targets for the copy.
2/4
Flavor
These are all gods that were turned into machines to be used. Each god, and the color combination, represents something relating to physics (I admit I haven't figured out the details of all 10.)
Blimbly: Having trouble thinking of this one Terinyx: Entropy - Breaking down of libraries. Leviath: Conservation of Energy - Value from changing zones. Rinicilis: Relativity/Spacetime - Slow down or Speed up the game. Mirmornia: Superposition - Repeat spells and abilities
If people would like more flavor provided let me know.
Going to talk about just your vessel ability for now.
Do you intend for the vessel to actually matter at all? If not I would scrap the whole attach and just use a counter like Phylactery Lich. It allows you to 'turn on' previously off gods by playing new ones and isn't complicated in the slightest.
Ignoring that for a bit. This ability can't target as is. You have a replacement effect, to target it has to be a ETB trigger.
The ascetics of this ability are weird. I understand it that to be vesseled it has to have the artifact that was chosen by the vessel ability attached meaning if it somehow becomes unattached it stops functioning. But that looks weird with equipment and vehicles. Equipment to do hoping around the field and vehicles because they fall off when they become creatures.
I'll talk about the individual cards in either a future post or edit.
Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm honestly okay with scrapping the whole vessel thing, was mostly just looking for a way to mechanically show someone controlling the machines.
But I get how it complicated the abilities and such.

Ok, so I was way off on the flavor of this ability. Despite it being the opposite I read it as noncreature artifact. So these are meant to be pseudo vehicles; except they are always creatures they just get better when piloted? That causes even more rules problems as creatures can't be attached to anything.
The whole being vehicles thing could be interesting. They have powerful abilities but can be turned into simple weapons of destruction. Fits the theme of made Gods.
A look at the cards:
Blimbly, Bone of War, this is a small body for this cost and the ability is very costly for so little. The restriction on sacrificing goblins is interesting but it weakens an already weak ability. Staying more or less the same it should gain control of all creatures with CMC of X or less.
Terinyx, Void of Day, again very small for its cost. The one or more clause makes this not play well with the other constructs which doesn't seem like a good idea. Also, the ability isn't even so strong that you should be looking for ways to weaken it.
Leviath, Serpent of Graves, an even smaller body. I think these are all looking more like 3CMC cards rather than 5CMC. The ability is the best of the bunch but again is highly restrictive. Give them escape the same as Underworld Breach.
Rinicilis, Wing of Peace2WUG, the only ok sized body and it's only ok. This is the worst ability. While ramp can be good even in the later game when you are attacking with this the way it ramps is bad. Also, the ability should read "If you would gain life, you may instead add that much mana in any combination of colors. Until end of turn, you don't lose this mana as steps and phases end." Limiting the colors of mana hurts and complicates the ability.
Mirmornia, Thought of Man, again fairly small. Scrying on only the first instant or sorcery is probably too little. Otherwise, it looks good.
Other than the conservation of energy I don't get the flavor for any of these. I could be I just don't understand the terms but I'll point on my understanding so we can get on the same page.
Entrophy - Basically the expression of energy that is unusable due to the current state. This sounds like it would pacify creatures or keep things from untapping
Conservation of Energy - Matter and Energy cannot be destroyed. Giving you access to your 'spent' resources is a perfect example of this.
Relativity/Spacetime - Perception of time changes based on one's speed. I'm not sure how ramp applies to this.
Superposition - The ability to be in multiple states at the same time until observed. Doubling spells makes no sense here. I think Yet Another Aether Vortex does a decent job of this.
Starting with the vessel ability for now. I think it could function similarly to Champion, where the creature gets exiled and then returns when the card leaves the battlefield. I have a few different ways to write it:
As an additional cost: (As an additional cost to cast this spell exile another creature you control. When this leaves the battlefield, that card returns to the battlefield.)
As Champion basically: (When this enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you exile another creature you control. When this leaves the battlefield, that card returns to the battlefield.)
As a variation of Kicker: (As you cast this spell you may exile another creature you control. When this leaves the battlefield, that card returns to the battlefield.)
I slightly prefer the kicker variation, because it follows the getting stronger for losing another creature thing I was going with before. The exiling creature I think still represents the creature controlling the machine.
Here is a quick updated example of Terinyx (ignoring the flavor problems, can honestly say the flavor is a black hole or anything for now.) I also might drop part of the subtype. I feel like to make the real god-like they need indestructible or recursion, but that seems like even more text.
Terinyx, Void of Day2WUB
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Vessel (As you cast this spell you may exile another creature you control. When this leaves the battlefield, that card returns to the battlefield.)
Construct creatures you control have vigilance and menace.
If Terinyx, Void of Day was vesseled, whenever a construct creature you control deals combat damage to an opponent, exile the top card of that player's library, you may play those cards as long as they remain in exile, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any type to cast that spell.
6/6
I raised the power in general, especially because of the exile cost now. This is way too much text, but if I can find a way to simplify it and make it fit better on the text box.
Going the champion route you can still have it be a replacement effect if you don't want to have to target or deal with it being a trigger. Ensoul (As ~ enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until ~ leaves the battlefield.)
If ~ is ensouled blah blah blah...
The thought of giving constructs souls sounds neat and can be played up on more cards than just a cycle and you can even drop the reminder text on these mythics if you go that route.
Terinyx, Void of Day2WUB
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct
Ensoul(As ~ enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until ~ leaves the battlefield.)
Constructs you control have Vigilance and Menace
As long as Terinyx is ensouled whenever a construct you control deals combat damage to a player exile the top card of their library. You may play that card as long as it remains in exile and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any type to play it.

Terinyx, Void of Day2WUB

As long as Terinyx is ensouled whenever a construct you control deals combat damage to a player exile the top card of their library. You may play that card as long as it remains in exile and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any type to play it.
This is exactly what I was going for!
Thanks so much. And yes the plan is to make lesser rarity constructs with the same flavor if I decide to take this to a set design.
More detail might help, on this world constructs are piloted through possession by people. Basically, instead of using your body to move the machine you possess it with your mind (or soul).
With this in mind, I do like the keyword ensoul, but how do you feel about possess (simply to get the ghost in the machine aspect of the flavor)?
EDIT:
With this help in mind here is where I am now. One other thing I'm working on is making the nonensouled ability to be decent on its own and assist the ensouled ability.
Blimbly, Bone of War2WBR
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
This needs a nonensouled ability still. (Creatures with toughness 4 or less attack each turn if able?)
As long as Blimbly, Bone of War is ensouled, it gains the ability:
{t}, Sacrifice X goblins: Gain control of creatures target opponent controls with converted mana cost X or less until end of turn, they gains haste.
6/4
Terinyx, Void of Day2WUB
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Creatures you control have vigilance.
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
As long as Terinyx, Void of Day is ensouled, whenever a construct creature you control deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of their library. You may play that card as long as it remains exiled and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any type to play it.
6/6
Leviath, Serpent of Graves2UBG
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
This needs a nonensouled ability still.(Permanents in your graveyard have flash?)
As long as Leviath, Serpent of Graves is ensouled, at the beginning of your upkeep you may put the top five cards of your library into your graveyard, those cards gain retrace until the end of your next turn. (Sticking with Retrace for now, escape doesn't fit the flavor.)
4/6
This one has the most changes:
Rinicilis, Silence of Peace2WUG
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
This needs a nonensouled ability still. (You have hexproof?)
As long as Rinicilis, Wing of Peace is ensouled, at the beginning of each player's endstep, if no damage was dealt that turn, that player may draw a card. If they do, you draw a card as well.
5/5
Mirmornia, Thought of Man2UBR
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell scry 1.
As long as Mirmornia, Thought of Man is Ensouled, you may copy the first instant or sorcery spell cast each turn, choose new targets for the copy at random.
4/5
I'm also curious about what you think of the idea of making it Ensoul X (When this enters the battlefield you may exile X nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.). I think that may help it scale better from common to mythic.
Blimbly, it's not "As long as Blimbly, Bone of War is ensouled, it gains the ability:" it's "Activate this ability only if Blimbly is ensouled." Also on a WBR card, I like the idea of Lifelink for all your creatures.
Leviath, you don't want an ability the only properly functions when it's ensouled for the nonensoul ability so giving cards in your graveyard flash is not a good choice. How about an activated ability that fits the colors and helps fuel the ability. "Pay 2 life, Return a land you control to its owner's hand: Draw a card."
Rinicilis, is this meant to draw you 2 on your turn for not dealing damage? Also you can drop the "as well" its just "If they do, draw a card." The you have hexproof is neat but lackluster. What about "You and nonconstruct(or nonartifact?) creatures you control have hexproof"?
I had given thought to Ensoul X but quickly realized that anything higher than Ensoul 2 would be very difficult to enable even if you went with a heavy go wide token theme.
Blimbly, Bone of War2WBR
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
Creatures you control have lifelink.

As long as Leviath, Serpent of Graves is ensouled, at the beginning of your upkeep you may put the top five cards of your library into your graveyard, you may cast those cards until the end of your next turn by discarding a land in addition to paying their mana cost. (I don't want to keyword retrace for now.)
4/6
Rinicilis, Silence of Peace2WUG
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
You and nonartifact creatures you control have hexproof.
As long as ~ is ensouled, at the beginning of each opponent's endstep, if no damage was dealt that turn, that player and you draw a card.
7/7
I'm liking these changes. I also changed Rinicilis to Opponent's endstep, I want it to feel a little group huggy/slowing combat? Let me know if that works better. Also for Rinicilis, I changed it to a 7/7, not sure if that boost is too high.
Finally, I'm not opposed to lowering or raising the generic part of the mana cost. These don't all need to be 5 exactly, although I would like to get the single pip of each color intact. So, if you think any should go up or down based on where we landed on abilities let me know.
EDIT:
I actually decided to tweak Mirmornia again. I just felt like compared to the others copying only the first spell seems lackluster. So:
Mirmornia, Thought of Man2UBR
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (M)
Ensoul (When this enters the battlefield you may exile a nonartifact creature you control until this leaves the battlefield.)
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell scry 1.
As long as ~ is ensouled, whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, you may pay {1}. If you do, copy that spell, choose new targets for the copy at random.

Let me know which version you think balances better with the others.

4/5
Let me know which version you think balances better with the others.
