The Taker B

When you cast The Taker, if it wasn't countered, state based actions aren't checked until you have priority next.
Pay 19 life: The Taker gains +20/+20 until end of turn. At the end of your next first main phase, pay BBB or you lose the game.
Haste. Trample.
While the idea of Hatred with its own body is compelling, this execution is both clunky and incredibly swingy (and besides that, it doesn't work: State-based actions will be checked before that ETB triggered ability resolves, anyhow).
To be perfectly honest, if you have to stick a drawback (in this case allowing an opponent to tutor a land) that's both out of color and out of flavor on a card, you're trying to overbalance something that's not a printable design.
that was some memory lapse on my part, 'cause i had it as "When you cast The Taker, if it wasn't countered, state based actions aren't checked until you have priority next." before editing to etb. gonna go back to that.
i agree that's out of flavor given it's "the taker", but i dunno what else it could be, precisely so it's not as swingy.
maybe "Pay 19 life: The Taker gains +20/+20 until end of turn. At the end of your next first main phase, pay BB or you lose the game."
This still doesn't work. There will be at least one check and possibly many many more before this card can survive on its own. If you are really trying to get this to live like this then you need to delay state-based actions until combat. That results in a potential host of problems that I wouldn't be comfortable adding to the game at the low price of B.
What is the goal of this design? Because it doesn't seem even the least bit interesting as a single card combo.
