Legendary Planeswalker - Bolas

Skip your draw step.
[-2]: Exile any number of cards from the top of your library face down. You lose that much life. Put those cards into your hand at the beginning of your next end step.
[-4]: Bolas, Scheming Meditant deals 4 damage to target player. That player draws four cards.
Necropotence has you exile them face down you so you can't strategize while exiling cards one at a time. Your card demands the exiling all at once so there seems little reason to hold onto the extra text of exiling them face down. As for why its frankly better, you don't have the discard exile clause making the extra cards in your hand at end of turn go to the graveyard rather than exile.
While the card is probably way to good simply because you are going to win with just one use of the -2. I love that you can't get rid of the card easily so the skip your draw step becomes just a downside later. I'm not sure at what cost that effect would be acceptable

Keeping the information hidden from other players seems worth it.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

My understanding is that you typically win on the spot so the information being hidden is a negligible benefit. If you aren't using it as some sort of degenerate combo but simply as a draw 3 or such then I can see a greater benefit to keeping the information hidden.

I’d agree with that, but don’t see how it’s better.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
