Think my new set idea mechanically might vibe with a return to Theros. Here are some ideas in that direction:
Heliod, the Forgotten Light1WWW
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 2WW: Create a 2/1 white Cleric enchantment creature token with vigilance.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
While Heliod, the Forgotten Light is face up on top of your library, creatures you control get +2/+2.
4/5
Erebos, the Forgotten Dread3BB
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 1B, Pay 1 life: You draw a card and each opponent loses 1 life.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
While Erebos, the Forgotten Dread is face up on top of your library, You can’t lose the game and your opponents can’t win the game.
4/6
Thassa, the Forgotten Wrath2UU
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 1U: Untap target creature. It can’t be blocked this turn.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
While Thassa, the Forgotten Wrath is face up on top of your library, you and permanents you control have hexproof.
4/4
Purphoros, the Forgotten Creator3RR
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 2R: Creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain haste until end of turn.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
While Purphoros, the Forgotten Creator is face up on top of your library, your spells can’t be countered and damage can’t be prevented.
5/4
Nylea, the Forgotten Hunter3GG
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 3G: Target creature gets +2/+2 and gains reach until end of turn.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
While Thassa, the Forgotten Scorn is face up on top of your library, attacking creatures you control have deathtouch and trample.
5/5
Ashiok, Bane of the Divine2UB
Legendary Planeswalker - Ashiok (M)
+1: Up to one target opponent exiles the top card of their library and a card from their hand.
-X: You may cast a card exiled by Ashiok, Bane of the Divine with a converted mana cost X or less without paying its mana cost.
-7: You get an emblem with “As long as an opponent has 3 or more cards in their hand, if they would draw a card, you draw a card instead.”

I was also considering a version of the gods where their static abilities worked while they were on the battlefield too and rebalancing accordingly:
Heliod, the Forgotten Light3WW
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 2WW: Create a 2/1 white Cleric enchantment creature token with vigilance.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
Other creatures you control get +1/+1 as long as Heliod is on the battlefield or face up on top of your library.
4/5
Erebos, the Forgotten Dread4BB
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 1B, Pay 1 life: You draw a card and each opponent loses 1 life.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
You can’t lose the game and your opponents can’t win the game as long as Erebos is on the battlefield or face up on top of your library.
4/6
Thassa, the Forgotten Wrath3UU
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 1U: Untap target creature. It can’t be blocked this turn.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
You and other permanents you control have hexproof as long as Thassa is on the battlefield or face up on top of your library.
Your spells can’t be countered and damage can’t be prevented as long as Purphoros is on the battlefield or face up on top of your library.
5/4
Nylea, the Forgotten Hunter4GG
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M) 3G: Target creature gets +2/+2 and gains reach until end of turn.
Remember 2 (If this card would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield, instead put it face up 2 card(s) from the top of your library.)
Other attacking creatures you control have deathtouch and trample as long as Nylea is on the battlefield or face up on top of your library.

The static ability of Erebos seems like a bad choice for this cycle since it "disappears" for a moment when you draw it and you might die before you can recast it.
In general activated abilities seem like a better choice for something you can activate from the top of the library from a gameplay perspective, don't you think?

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
Good point on Erebos, but I disagree on the activated abilities for the top of library. I want their presence felt as they're approaching and to have more value for waiting on their return. Having to pay mana on top of the library for an ability seems luke-warm and less enchantment-like than static-triggered abilities to me.

Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (M)
2WW: Create a 2/1 white Cleric enchantment creature token with vigilance.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."

Otherwise it's a good way of showing immortality without using indestructible which is probably why WOTC used something similar for Illharg.
