just an idea that sprung into my mind of something that would be funny to design and play as a linear, parasitic card, but the right kind
of course you'd need to play the battle theme whenever you cast it
Star Magician3WRG
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard (R)
When Star Magician enters the battlefield, you may search your graveyard and library for any number of Ball artifact cards with different names and put them onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. T: Return target Ball artifact from your graveyard to the battlefield.
3/6
Refresh Ball1
Artifact Creature - Ball (U) 1W, T, sacrifice Refresh Ball: You gain 5 life. 1, T, sacrifice Refresh Ball: Draw a card.
1/2
Anger Ball1
Artifact Creature - Ball (U) 1R, T, sacrifice Anger Ball: It deals 2 damage to any target. 1, T, sacrifice Anger Ball: Draw a card.
1/2
Guardian Ball1
Artifact Creature - Ball (U) 1G, T, sacrifice Guardian Ball: Target permanent gains hexproof and becomes indestructible until end of turn. 1, T, sacrifice Guardian Ball: Draw a card.
1/2
anger and thunder seemed kind of redundant, and 4 freebies might be pushing it
Neat. Obviously it needs a reflavoring in a real Magic context to make it an original character (and I'm not exactly sure GS's Star Magician was... well... Human).
Glad for the "artifact" clause so dumb things with changelings do not happen.

hah yeah I wasn't sure what creature type to give him...
I think if Ball is an artifact type, these would need a creature type. So maybe they'd be "Artifact Creature - Ball Construct"? But there's an ambiguity in that nothing on the typeline tells you what kind of subtype is what
thanks
I think the "Orb" creature type would be ideal. It is seldom used in fact only once on a token created by Phantasmal Sphere. But already exists and is used for round objects aka Balls.
I am not use if you want to add an artifact type to avoid changeling shenanigans but I almost think that this would be unnecessary, because Orb artifact creature is already very specific and artifact creatures which Changeling are rare.

"When Star Magician enters the battlefield, you may search your graveyard and library for any number of Orb artifact creature cards with different names and put them onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library."
and
"Artifact Creature - Orb"
would indeed do it nicely without cluttering up the game's rules with a new subtype on the relatively untouched artifact list
although I should note that it would um, go pretty funny with arcane adaptation & conspiracy... maybe its safer to just write it as '...for up to three Orb artifact creature cards..."
That being said the colored abilities are too expensive since drawing a card for one colorless mana should be better in pretty much all circumstances. I mean essentially take a look at the spellbomb.
For the green one I would use an unkicked Vines of Vastwood effect. Something like this , :"Target creature gains hexproof until the end of this turn." But again it should only cost G.
Since they are creatures and have summoning sickness, they need to essentially wait one turn to become spellbombs which I think is fine. I would also go for 1/1 instead of 1/2 usually cheap artifact creatures are not that pushed

Anger Ball 2
Artifact Creature - Ball R, sacrifice Anger Ball: Anger Ball deals 2 damage to any target.
1/2
I would also change Guardian Ball to blue and have it only grant hexproof. Mostly because the 'Magician' in 'Star Magician' makes it feel weird that he's in Naya colors.
I do really enjoy parasitic mechanics on commanders (and desperately want to build a Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith deck). I think this is a good take on a fairly common RPG trope.

I'm curious if the balls are balanced as is.
