Ok, so, I need some assistance. Here's the first version of Makeda, who is a battle necromancer. (Yes, I know that's a weird as heck color identity for that character concept.) I'm pretty satisfied with this design.
Kingspeaker Makeda3RW
Planeswalker — Makeda (M)
Starting Loyalty: 4
+1: Until your next turn, up to one target creature can’t attack and up to one target creature can’t block.
-3: Untap target creature. After this main phase, there is an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase.
-7: You get an emblem with, “Whenever a creature you control attacks, return a creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped and attacking.”
Now I'm trying to make a monowhite Makeda and I'm displeased with the ult, as well as unsure of whether they feel like the same character.
Ghost Strategist Makeda3W
Planeswalker — Makeda (M)
Starting Loyalty: 4
+1: Until your next turn, up to one target creature gains first strike and up to one target creature loses all abilities.
-2: Return creature cards with total converted mana cost 5 or less from your graveyard to your hand.
-7: Exile each creature an opponent controls.
I do like Kingspeaker Makeda and I remember the character, glad to see her back.
The ultimate is exactly what's preventing Ghost Strategist Makeda from feeling like herself. That +1 is neat; it seems like "her thing" to simultaneously incrementally advantage you and disadvantage opponents, as well as feeling like a successor to her original +1. The -2 needs an "any number of" in there for comprehension reasons (and feels like it might turn into an engine of some kind, but hey, it's a mythic).
I feel like the ultimate shouldn't be hurting opponents but helping you in order to feel like the same character. I'm at a loss at the moment though.
