It’s nice to see “vintage” Ron Spencer art. It made me realize that so far Helvault is the only art style on the previous thread page that I don’t like.
As for Vhati’s ability, note that the green part isn’t power reduction, it’s power setting, which green has ample precedent for in from cards like Singing Tree and the more recent Inspiring Squire.
Also, setting a creature's own power and toughness through characteristic-defining abilities is something that's just available to all colors as long as it scales to something that's in-color, so Elvish Impersonators and Elvish House Party would be bad examples even if they weren't Un.

Do you mean cards like Snakeform and Lignify? If so, is it possible that Vhati is indeed in green’s wheelhouse afterall? I think it is, but am uncertain.
So p/t setting outside of variable creatures is not an ability you see that often but in a normal context I think you'd be most likely toseeitinwhiteandblue.
If green does it outside of Snakeform which was always one of those questionably-hybrid cards for me and Lignify which is more a blue effect but got momentarily shifted to green for flavor in the block context, it's most likely to be one of those "possibly grow, possibly shrink" deals like Biomass Mutation.
I don't think setting power to green to 1 is green any longer and I don't think Vhati felt green, ever - the Dal as a people never had any green cards, the il certainly weren't green what with allying with the Evincar and by extension the grotesque parody of nature that was original Phyrexia, and nothing about the character of a toadying but disloyal right-hand man is green.

Maybe that’s the idea? He was an an aberration amongthe il-Dal. Also, maybe the green is just there to justify his 3/3 frame?
I mean, other colors can tutor for specific card types (which I guess explains the The Unspeakable's Arcane summon bit, since blue can freely tutor for instants/sorceries). So I just wonder why we haven't seen a trio of creatures in this vein, for example, in green in this day and age.
I remember this guy, it was one of my favorites, almost wholly due to the art. But it really doesn't make any sense. It's not very shambly, it's not striding, since it's crouched. The flowstone ability wasn't well defined as being red at this time, but isn't a good match for this card's flavor or for green, and it costs too much, even by the standards of Ice Age.
Looking at the flavor text of Yavimaya Ancients makes me wonder why Taaveti of Kelsinko never got a card. He's quoted in flavor text on 15 different cards.

Taaveti doesn't have a strong theme from his flavor texts to build from, but he is one of he more common sources during the Ice Age, he could have gotten a card, but I suppose there's only so much room in the set, and he's not super memorable. Disa the Restless is in the same vein, but has even more quotes.

The (often) gold draft-matters uncommon cycle is a great means of communicating set-themes. If you didn't know to draft black-green Elves by the time you see this card, you know now.
The only previous Lorwyn Elf to mention a pack is Wren's Run Packmaster, who leads a pack of wolves, the kind of thing Rhy the Exiled used to do. Otherwise their groups aren't really named, though I always assumed the fitting name for a group of elves on Lorwyn would be "a hunt of elves". Of note: On Shadowmoor we have a Drove of Elves, though that obviously is no longer a hunting party.

I do like this effect in red. It's been there forever and I'm glad it still shows up.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
