With R'kadi, I was trying to find out if there was a way to make an actual 1 cmc planeswalker that isn't inherently broken. The idea is that once you play R'kadi, you can in no way target and sacrifice him. Only your opponents can interact with him. He is designed to be strong, but with a huge downside once he reaches critical mass.
Istvan, Ill-Remembered
Again, this is an attempt at a planeswalker that your opponents have a bit more control over. He is supposed to be a spectral representation of Uncle Istvan from the Dark. The idea is that an opponent can Hymn themselves in order to destroy him. He is most-likely far too powerful, but I am interested to see what thoughts others have about him. I had briefly thought about making him cost BB and only requiring a single discard. Would that be more fair? How much would it affect his playability.
Aenni, Nourishing Sprite
Aenni was a trial if what could make a green planeswalker different enough than current green planeswalkers, still on color, and fairly strong at a low cmc. What ideas would you suggest in making this more playable. She is meant to be a ramp card, through-and-through.
Let me know what you think of these cards. What do you like? What do you not like?
R'kadi, is broken as heck. Ignoring everything else R draw two discard one is way too good. Add in the fact that he does that, plus 1 random damage with the potential for extra upside is insane. The downside only matters if you get mindslaver'd or the opponent is running proliferate.
Istavan, is a significantly stronger Lilly of the veil which is one of the strongest walkers. The worst case scenario for you playing this turn three is the opponent sacrifices a token discards a card and skips their turn. While the more likely scenario is BBB opponent discards 3 cards or the next three cards they would draw. I don't see a way to balance his set of abilities. If you are willing to change his activated abilities then a one or two point life drain could be a replacement for his sacrifice. Though it's hard to say as hymn at BBB is too strong adding upside is tricky while reducing it to one makes it laughably weak.
Aenni, this would make a perfectly fine 3 mana Walker if the 0 gained a small amount of life, 1 or 2. At two it's harder to justify a + that is card advantage. To keep her at 2, make her plus untap a land or permanent, her current plus a minus 1 maybe putting it into play. Her ultimate needs rewording because you don't put thing into play untapped. Just put them into play then a second part untap two lands.
R'Kadi - First, art needs credit. Learn to use google reverse image search if you are posting card renders. Just a few minutes: https://daverapoza.carbonmade.com/projects/5313374
- You can use the +2 ability and the +1 ability, or +1 ability three times, then stop using it and have no problem as long as your opponents have no cards that can somehow add loyalty to your planeswalker. Any version of this idea needs to take that into account. For example, maybe something wordy like:
At the beginning of your end step, if you didn't activate a loyalty ability of R'Kadi this turn and/or R'Kadi has 5 or more loyalty, exile R'Kadi and he deals 10 damage to you.
The other abilities still need some balancing though.
Istvan - Uncle Istvan only prevents damage from creatures, so I would either make this only prevent damage from creatures or name this something else that is not a reference to Uncle Istvan.
- The effects of the two 0 abilities are a little boring. The interesting part is other players being able to use one of its abilities. Maybe just iterate on that idea with a planeswalker that lets anyone use its abilities. A good ability to go with that on a black planeswalker would be partially negative abilities like "You draw a card and you lose 1 life" to hurt any player that does decide to use it.
Ignov the Fickle 1BB ... 2BB? Legendary Planeswalker - Ignov (M)
Each player may activate a loyalty ability of Ignov the Fickle during their turn. /+1\: You discard a card and you gain 1 life.
[0]: You draw a card and you lose 1 life.
\-1/: Each player sacrifices an artifact, creature, or land.
[2]
Hard to wrap my mind around a planeswalker like this. It seems good, but not sure how strong it would actually be. Part Braids, Cabal Minion, part Phyrexian Arena. Your opponents can draw cards from it, or try to kill it in two turns hoping you don't discard a card to restock him.
Aenni - Feels like she is doing too much of the same thing. It is like the boring Chandra cards that have all straight damage abilities. Land, mana, more lands.
