Just three removal spells I'm toying with in a set I'm working on. Tried to keep all three flavor neutral in terms of names, and not tied to the specific world of my set.
Bring to JusticeW Instant (R)
Exile target attacking creature. Its controller draws a card.
Killing BlowB Instant (U)
Destroy target creature. You lose life equal to that creature’s power.
TriturateR Instant (U)
Choose one —
• Triturate deals 2 damage to target creature.
• Destroy target noncreature artifact.
Would love any and all input, especially with regards to power level. For my thought process:
- The first is what I think a modern day, color pie appropriate version of Swords to Plowshares / Path to Exile would look like.
- The second is my attempt at a cleaner Vendetta, with power mattering instead of toughness to symbolize the dying creature striking out at you.
- The third is an Abrade variant meant to be arguably better in Legacy. Cheaper is typically better, but this likely has a tougher time dealing with Chalice of the Voice.
On the other hand Killing Blow is way too good. It's leagues above Fatal Push and better then Dismember in black.
That depends on the Limited and the Standard. Vendetta was in both said formats as recently as Rise of the Eldrazi and was IIRC a good but not problematic card.
"Better than Dismember in black" is also pretty disingenuous because Dismember's power was due to being in all nonblack decks - it was colorless superpowered removal.
These are all viable for constructed play and EDH. I actually think Triturate is the best one, It's basically Smelt or Shock which is very strong, it seems better than Abrade which is already very good.
I don't think conditional removal like Bring to Justice needs to be rare, but should be uncommon instead.
Bring to Justice and Triturate are on the strong side but passable. I like both cards.

My mindset was that Vendetta was printed at common, and this cleans up the text, dropping the the regeneration clause, while also dropping the nonblack restriction and bumping up to uncommon. I don't think it's "way" too good.

You talk like dropping non-black clause is a small thing.
Dropping the non-black clause is enough to require a second color (Terminate vs. Doom Blade). Also bumping common to uncommon is not a justification to add power to a spell that is already good. This is like saying uncommon Lighting Bolt would be printable because it is Shock + 1 damage. Considering we are talking about 1 cmc removal, the jump from conditional to unconditional should be even more costly then the Doom Blade > Terminate case.
