Artifact - Contraption T, sacrifice ~: Deal 2 damage divided as you choose among one or two target creatures. X, T: Deal X damage to target creature or player. Play this ability only if ~ is assembled
I think this is a bit parasitic, but I'm not sure there's much I can do about that. I tried to make sure that the contraptions are at least playable if you don't have any Riggers by giving them a weaker sacrifice ability that doesn't require assemblage.
i think your contraptions probably need something a lot more specific mechanical/flavourwise to allow it to gain the extra subtype, kinda like how equipment does.
you could have them for example act like bombs? maybe something like

artifact - contraption
~ loses all other abilities as long as it has less than 3 assembly counters on it.
Whenever an unblocked creature damages you, you may sacrifice ~. If you do, draw a card.
crenelated firehose 0
artifact - contraption
~ loses all other abilities as long as it has less than 5 assembly counters on it.
Whenever an unblocked creature damages you, you may sacrifice ~. If you do, it deals 2 damage to each unblocked creature that attacked you this turn.
Big rig 0
artifact creature - contraption
~ loses all other abilities and isn't a creature as long as it has less than 10 assembly counters on it
trample.
Big rig can't attack unless you control a rigger creature and a goblin creature.

yea, its a bit parasitic, but if it was an easy puzzle, we'd already have it, right? keep going with the ideas!
These are relatively nice. They have memory / tracking issues though. Perhaps reword assemble like so:
"assemble a Contraption. (If that Contraption isn't assembled, put a charge counter on it and it becomes assembled.)"
That way you can also have them interact on another level if the Contraption uses charge counters.
These still run into the 'Why does the creature assemble and not the player?' problem, unfortunately. However, that's easily fixed - one or two Riggers that get a bonus when they assemble - and thus get that bonus many times alongside Riggers like the ones you have - could work.

I definitely like those suggestions. I think perhaps assemble should be worded:
"Choose an unassembled contraption and put a charge counter on it. That contraption becomes assembled"
Then any bonuses that they get are limited by the available number of unassembled contraptions. And cards like Steamflogger Boss don't allow Riggers to assemble already assembled contraptions
