Just need some general thoughts on this "cycle". Do they seem like a good set of cards for the noted purposes?

I like the cycle and the idea of going back to Kamigawa. Here are my thoughts. The Black and White cards are the most powerful. The White one seems pretty solid; I like the idea of making colorless spirits and plus you get a 4/4 flying creature for 5 mana. Seems like a solid card that doesn't break anything. Fleshrend Oni seems okay, it's a little boring. Desecration Demon is much more frightening, as it is a 6/6 that could fly and has a lesser drawback. Maybe you could change things up and make this guy a 4/4 for 3 mana, or something to make it seem less comparable to better cards. Falling Star Ryu sounds like a legendary creature, and isn't this practically the dragon from the original Kamigawa cycle? Maybe you could give it "Whenever Falling Star Ryu enters or leaves the battlefield, it deals damage to target creature equal to its power." Dreamweaver is pretty okay, I think it should be able to tutor up any instant or sorcery instead of just sorceries though. I don't see any reason why it has to leave instants out. Kodama of the Great Tree is kind of weak for what it does. When compared to something like Pelakka Wurm, you would think Pelakka Wurm is the rare and Kodama of the Great Tree is the uncommon. Maybe you could give it the same "enters or leaves" the battlefield clause as I suggested for Falling Star Ryu? Maybe you could gain life equal to the number of spirits you control plus the number of lands you control.
Anyhow, I like what you've got going on here! Kamigawa (if done correctly) could be a very interesting set to return to. Your cards are interesting but could use some work to make them rare quality. If you need more help just message me!

As for Falling Star Ryu, the idea is that it's a spawn of Ryusei, who is Mythic now.
The Demon is a riff on Juzam Djinn, but with higher upside (Trample) and higher downside (3 vs 1), and a way to turn off the drawback.
I like your idea for the Kodama.
