Hi,
I've been fiddling about cards with a pirate theme recently (innovation en masse, I know :P) - but fellow ccc'ler understand when you have ideas in your head, you have to get them out.
So here they are: (names are not final ofc)
Darkbeard 2UBB
Legendary Creature - Human Pirate (M)
Intimidate
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, that player exiles cards from the top of his or her library until he or she exiles a nonland card. Until end of turn, you may cast that card without paying its mana cost.
3/5
Flavor: As pirate captain, he boards his opponents and takes their belogings, hence the Stolen Goods on a stick.
Darkbeard's Secret Ritual3BBB
Sorcery (M)
Return to your battlefield all exiled creature cards. They are black and zombies in addition to their other colors and types.
Undercosted? Overcosted? For an UB pirate faction I have a theme in mind which exile cards from players libraries (and a few from the graveyard for the zombie ones).
Darkbeard's Meathook4
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has double strike.
Equip 2
Every cool captain needs a Grappling Hook, right? I kinda want to up the equip cost to 4 and give the equipped creature a "hooking effect", but not the original hook's one, because Darkbeard doesn't want to be blocked per se.
I've been thinking in this direction: 2, T: Each creature you control deals 1 damage to target creature an opponent controls.
Or 2, T: ~ deals damage to target creature equal to the number of creatures you control.
Flavor: The user hooks a guy from the opposing ship (opponent) onto his and your crew you beats the living heck out of it à la Dogpile.
So, whatch'all think? I appreciate any constructive comments. Thanks in advance!

I don't get the double black here. Stolen goods is a blue spell, his p/t is more blue then black too. His only black facet is intimidate. He could cost 3UB.
If you want to keep that blacky mana cost, give him some different p/t such as 5/3.

Can't agree with exile zone interaction. The exile zone is a rule formality to make certain cards and abilities to work, such as three wishes and flashback. It's also a way answer to graveyard abuses. Misthollow Griffin fills the quota of 'design exception' the same way nameless race do to creatures without a type.
Darkbeard's Meathook 4

I've been thinking in this direction:
2, t: Each creature you control deals 1 damage to target creature an opponent controls.
Or
2, t: ~ deals damage to target creature equal to the number of creatures you control.
Both those abilities evoke a different flavor (i think about dogpile, not the hook!). It could be something a long the lines of:
Darkbeard's Meathook5
Artifact (R) t: Tap target creature.
Tap a creature you control: ~ deals 1 damage to target tapped creature.
Brand New to the Site, and stumbled upon this tread. To keep it short and sweet, your card ideas do match what pirates do best except for the ritual (Maybe you were going for the Pirates Curse aspect) due to the mana cost and poor interaction (If you'er going for a self-exile deck then maybe but still that mana cost though. Other than that everything else is ok.
I, myself, have been creating alot of pirate/ pirate related card ideas these past few days and was seeing if the internet can give me ideas for more.
I have linked a PowerPoint with all the card ideas that i had made up to this point due to attachments are not working for me
So this thread was last posted in six years ago. Please don't post in threads that are that old; bumping them up serves no purpose and pushes currently active threads further down.
I'm going to recommend you make your own thread with your card ideas and, instead of a slideshow (I have never seen custom cards presented in that way in my whole tenure here), please just post text versions of the cards. As far as I can tell, they're in text-only form in the slideshow anyhow, so you should be able to copy and paste them.
