Metamorphic HydraX1GU
Creature - Hydra Shapeshifter (R)
Metamorphic Hydra enters the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the battlefield, except with X additional +1/+1 counters on it.

Granted, I posted the quoted thread the day after Gone Missing was spoiled, but I hadn't seen the spoiler at that time and the card was designed some time before.
I made Murder a few years ahead of time.
I came up with the Dash mechanic, but a lot of people probably did. I called it Surprise Attack, which is kind of a dumb name, anyway.
I made colorless nonartifact creatures before the Eldrazi. They were little proto-creatures from a newly evolving plane. I was kinda annoyed when the Eldrazi came out like a year later.
Wizards of the Coast stole from me an idea of 2/2 creature for 2 mana. Seriously
I read the thread. Maybe some cards or mechanics are really stolen, but i think that most cases is only coincidences
I don't think anyone really believes their idea was "stolen." It's just amusing to note that a card you had designed (or something very close) actually got printed.
WOTC Designers and Developers have an express policy of not soliciting (read: seek out) card designs. So none of this is actually stolen, its just a phrase saying "look, I did the thing the big guys did!"
I created a mechanic called Legion which was "Whenever this creature and at least X other creatures you control attack or block, put a legion counter on this creature. Remove X legion counters: do something."
Four months later, Gatecrash came out. Notice anything similar?
Yawgmoth's Domain4BB
Enchantment (R)
When Yawgmoth's Domain enters the battlefield, exile target player's graveyard.
You may play cards exiled with Yawgmoth's Domain.
i designed that to be a slightly simpler version of Yawgmoth's Agenda without the overly expansive drawbacks. Hedonist's Trove ended up being more nerfed, that's fair, but is sadly more wordy than the Agenda rather than less
Might of Selesnya4WG Enchantment
Convoke (Each creature you tap while casting this spell reduces its cost by 1 or by one mana of that creature's color.)
Creatures you control get +2/+2.
What if you used the transform mechanic to simulate two cards combining into one more powerful one?
It would need a new keyword, I think, but here's what I thought of:
---
Onmyo Turtle - 2:symug::symug: Legendary Creature - Turtle
Defender, hexproof 3:symug::symug:: If you control both Onmyo Turtle and Onmyo Snake, transform both of them. (They're treated as a single card while transformed.) 3/5
Onmyo Snake - 1:symug::symug: Legendary Creature - Snake
Whenever Onmyo Snake deals combat damage to a creature, tap that creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. UG: Target creature gets -2/-0 until end of turn and blocks Onmyo Snake this turn if able. Play this ability only once each turn. 1/2
Genbu of the North Legendary Creature - Turtle Snake Spirit
Vigilance, hexproof
Whenever Genbu of the North becomes blocked by a creature, Genbu of the North gains deathtouch until end of turn.
Whenever Genbu of the North deals combat damage to a player, tap all permanents that player controls and untap all permanents you control. 6/6
---
Ignoring how strong/weak/whatever it is, since that was just to outline the concept.
Basically, two separate cards that are at least usable on their own, but that CAN merge into one more powerful form if you have them both available.
Someone showed me the spoilers with the Bruna/Gisela hybrid Eldrazi Angel card, and I remembered this post of mine from a long time ago.
Haven't been paying much attention to EMN spoilers. Today I posted this in the DCC thread after thinking of the card during the Game of Thrones finale:
One of Many Faces3UU
Legendary Creature - Shapeshifter (R)
Hexproof
As One of Many Faces attacks or blocks, choose another creature and exile it until end of turn. One of Many Faces is a copy of that card for as long as it is exiled this way. "There are two inevitable truths to life: All men must serve, and all men must die."
2/2
Luckily for me (in the contest) someone PM'ed me about a very similar card spoiled for the upcoming set.
The new Spell Queller is very similar to a card I made a few months ago but never posted, except it was an enchantment theat cost 4 and countered any spell. Looks like I was playing it safe
I came up with a concept similar to Fortune's Favor a while back. It was a sorcery that cost UU, and only hit 3 cards instead of 4, but it was neat to see that we had a similar idea.
Oblivion Ring (mine cost 1 more and was called containment cube)
Negate
Mitotic slime (designed as a` hydra, that cost 1 more)
I came up with the concept of "living weapon" but not the same wording or application.
Permeating Ooze from Eldritch Moon (mine was a blue shapeshifter that cost 1 more with same stats)
So I'm 2.5/3 on Kaladesh mechanics except for wildly different flavor.
Energy counters (Mechanic E) are probably not strange to anyone designing for long enough - they are basically what many others as well did for gold. I had a quite direct version including a gold symbol based on the gold symbol of the magic.extra-style of MSE2. I'm looking forward to seeing how Wizards R&D solved this developmentally. I never quite felt the mechanic could stand on its own in my attempts excpet once - and coincidentally that one was tied to artifacts as well, so maybe that's going to be key.
Fabricate N has been Growth N (When this enters the battlefield put N +1/+1 counters on it or put N 1/1 green Saproling counters onto the battlefield.) Actually that one is so old it probably still said "into play". I disliked fixing the tokens to green back then and never used it much. Certainly happy to see this forgotten one be hidden gold.
I was close to crewing Vehicles once when trying to assemble Contraptions - except the effect did not last until end of turn - since you obviously need to assemble a Contraption only once. Assembling also was a special ability rather than a simple activated ability to make it work with the infamous Steamflogger Boss and that made it too complex. I'm seeing even chances that Vehicles started as Contraptions as well.
Shout outs to everyone who made gold counters and crewed Vessels and especially that one person who made the pack/swarm ability word close to fabricate that I thought was a very interesting twist (since it allowed also for differently sized and french vanilla tokens).
Today is a day I expect many people will be allowed to brag! ^.^

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Yes indeed! Kudos to all of the amateur innovators who independently designed mechanics identical or similar to those seen in Kaladesh so far.
And shame on the know-it-alls who criticized them as unprintable, bad ideas, "MaRo said they'd never do that", and so on. Shame on you! Learn to think outside of the box and be positive and encouraging instead. Remember what Einstein famously said (and yes, he really said this):
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

I agree. When it comes to designing and critiquing custom cards, I feel that a lot of designers are stuck a bit too much on the present and the decisions that have led up to the present, rather than focusing a bit more toward the future and what mechanical space can be explored there.
