Looking through the Gatecrash spoiler, I saw Guardian of the Gateless, and it looked awfully familiar. Here's a card I designed around two years ago I think:
I designed AEtherize years ago for a custom set. Mine cost 2UU and was rare, but the set had a Siren theme that made it matter. Thing was, I was a little embarrassed about it because I thought it was too good. Guess Wizards disagrees.
I remember making a card for Club Flamingo called Snap Caster (The condition was good Flavor). It was a RW damaging spell that costed X mana, hit a player for X and silenced the afflicted player. Suddenly we have Death in the form of a card
Seal of the Syndicate 4
Legendary Artifact
Whenever you play a spell, you may pay :1mana:. If you do, target player loses 1 life and you gain 1 life. WB,T: Until end of turn, whenever you play a spell with haunt, target player loses 2 life and you gain 2 life. Then destroy target haunted permanent.
Holy crap, turns out I designed extort... on an Orzhov-themed card... in 2007.
Angelic Tutelage5W
Sorcery
Put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token and a 4/4 white Angel creature token with Flying into play. It is an honor for the humble to learn from the divine, and it is a nobility for the divine to raise the humble.
Yeah, mine is Sorcery that gives you an Angel and a 1/1, but the idea's mostly similar. Though again, it miffed me why the Voice isn't a 4/4.
Screaming Hellkite 4RR
Creature - Dragon
Flying, Haste
When ~ ETB, creatures can't block this turn.
5/5
Good to know he was fine at 3RR
And I also had
Call the Banners 2WW
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a banner counter on ~, then put a 1/1 white soldier token onto the battlefield for each banner counter on ~.
When ~ has 5 or more banner counters, sacrifice it.
Too expensive. Silence costs W and is pretty bad. This could easily cost four mana, perhaps some of it white. Looks like a good excuse for the usually ugly 1WUU cost. No problems with the design, it's a clean card that should exist.
So, if this is fake, someone's STEALING my card + k-rad's critique (double crime), if not, where's the Split Second?
I managed to predict the creation of Regathan Firecat.
Lavacore Strider1RR
Creature- Elemental Beast (C) While most of Alsymnia’s inhabitants are beings of flesh and bone, others are made of more volatile stuff.
4/1
Admittedly, the Firecat is better since it's easier to splash red for it, but that's the price the Strider pays for being common.
Mizzium Morphing2UR
Sorcery (R)
As an additional cost to cast Mizzium Morphing, discard a creature card.
Target creature you control becomes a copy of the discarded card until end of turn.
Overload 4UURR
The overload cost probably needs to be more expensive, but what do you think?
EDIT:
Mizzium Morphing2UR
Sorcery (R)
As an additional cost to cast Mizzium Morphing, discard a creature card.
Target creature you control becomes a copy of the discarded card until end of turn.
Overload 5UURR
See? My card transform into any creature you discard, but it just to happens that my example was a dragon too
Suffering SpawnBBB
Creature - Elemental (R)
Suffering Spawn comes into play with X +1/+1 counters, where X is the total life lost by all players this turn. "What good could come of giving form to your pain? Given life, it will surely seek to grow and reproduce itself."
- Icharod, Prophet Inviolable, to Saercel 0/0
I made an enchantment like that Dismiss into Dream enchantment that will be in M14, only it was 4U, affected all permanents, was named Dreamscape, and had the flavor text If the world is merely a dream, then it is a nightmare.
Dismiss into Dream :6mana::symu:
Enchantment
Each creature your opponents control is an Illusion in addition to its other types and has "When this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it."
Leyline of Dreams :2mana::symub::symub:
Enchantment
If Leyline of Dreams is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it on the battlefield.
When a creature an opponent controls becomes the target of a spell or ability, its controller sacrifices it.
Also, from my same custom set, a 1cmc mana dork named: Elvish Mystic
Dang, Jimmy already had a good keyword Creating mechanics is something I haven't ever been very good at, but I'll see what I can brew up.
Shineko, if you happen to see this, what exactly is meant by a tight cycle? To me that suggests they all have the same CMC, just checking what you want there.
Inscribe {cost} - (You may pay {cost} and exile this from your hand inscribing target creature you control. If you do, whenever that creature deals combat damage to a player, you may cast this without paying its mana cost, then put this card into your hand as it resolves.)
Rune of Authority3WW
Sorcery (R)
Inscribe 5WW
Tap up to X target permanents, where X is the damage dealt to target opponent this turn. Those permanents don't untap during their controller's next untap step.
Rune of Enlightenment3UU
Sorcery (R)
Inscribe 5UU
Draw cards equal to the damage dealt to target opponent this turn.
Rune of Recall3BB
Sorcery (R)
Inscribe 5BB
You may cast target card in a graveyard with converted mana cost X or less, where X is the damage dealt to target opponent this turn.
Rune of Ignition 3RR
Sorcery (R)
Inscribe 5RR
Rune of Ignition deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is the damage dealt to target opponent this turn.
Rune of Branching3GG
Sorcery (R)
Inscribe 5GG
Distribute X +1/+1 counters among creatures you control, where X is the damage dealt to target opponent this turn.
Well guys, after reading a couple of pages, the thing is pretty simple. Mark ROsewater has confessed in one of his earlier articles (2003) that the most important part of his job (and the one that, as he said, his boss wants him to be acomplished the first during a regular day at R&D) is to, textually: "Surf the web in search of MtG related sites" to take ideas from there, among many other things. This people is part of a getto. They work happens behind doors. DO you really think this people is not stealing ideas from us (free workers for R&D) and sticking their names on them? Really? MTGS at least has been producing a ton of card/mechanic/flavor ideas since the site started working. My god, we produce here at least 50 cards per day and probably more (around 20-25 just with the DCC)... The thing is that we can't complain. We're designing over a copyrighted game and posting it online. We have no legal degrees over our custom cards and we know it.
The only thing I would complain about is that the made just a couple of comptetitions for hiring people and nothing else, while they know there's a very talented bunch of people probably more capable that many of their friends, who end taking the open slots. That's a shame. That and the fact that even those few contest are just for USA residents, where the game is being sold worldwide. So hypocrital, IMO... I would REALLY expect them to at least open the contest for the whole international community next time, if there'll be one (I think I'll made something of this and add it to my signature. I bet these "web surfers" at R&D will see it for sure and may be, just may be, they'll feel pity of the vast majority of the amateur CCD community that works for free and doesn't even has a chance of taking part of those marginal chances of seeing a dream become true.

Pretty sure the contest isn't open outside of US for work regulation reasons. Suppose the winner is the a guy from South Korea. Now, he's offered a job in another country, in a language he may or may not speak fluently, he needs a green card, a valid passport, a social security number he needs to be accepted as a US resident (which takes time), he needs to find a decent housing near the place where he'll start working and leave everything else, friends, family, other job, behind.
Pretty sure they're not being hypocritical, they're just searching for designers who can start working within the months of winning the contest, not years.
If it's your dream to work for WotC...then apply. Send them your resume, your portfolio and a good letter. Contest are certainly not the only way to get jobs, a contest is 90% publicity. There's a *lot* more employers there than there were Great Designer Searches, so how do you think those people got their jobs? The same way you will if you want to, by finding out in which sector they are hiring (if any) and applying there.
And when you say Mark Rosewater is using our designs for his cards ideas...well...what do you think we do? My card designs are usually very much influenced by the last set I bought. The influence goes both way. If he does scour the MTGS forums's card creation boards for ideas, it's to create cards that will fuel our own imagination when we scour the Gatherer for ideas as well.
As far as I'm concerned I like this situation. The game would be worst off if Wizards shut themselves from the communal public think tank. And don't go thinking we're doing his job for him, having an idea is the easiest part of the job. I'm willing to bet any set designer (professional or amateur) will agree when I say getting ideas for cards or mechanic isn't the hard part, it's making everything work cohesively and coherently together in each card, each color and each expansion.
We're not doing anything for free, we're doing it for fun. There's a big difference. What we do on this site isn't the kind of work we would have to to daily as a designer for MtG.
I'm sure many of these people in Wizards RnD are reading our works. As a forum, we bounce ideas around one another. The reality is some of these ideas become cards but we cannot really say they took it off us even though it's true. I would think that Wizards would like to hire international talents but it's the immigration and work policy that's going against the rest of the world. C'est la vie.
In any case, I created a farseek cycle that incorporated ground assault, way before RtR block came out. Awesome in my cube that supports 5C.
Fire the Earth1RG
Sorcery {U}
Search your library for a Plains, Island, or Swamp card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Fire the Earth deals damage to target creature equal to the number of lands you control. Then shuffle your library.
Also Domri Rade's first abilty was similar to my 2CC walker.
Cards we make that eventually comes out in sets are quite the vindication.
I'm sure many of these people in Wizards RnD are reading our works.
No, it's simple convergent evolution. There's only a finite amount of possible designs in the game that are actually printable - so every once in a while, they will print one of your printable designs. But I'm sure the road that led to that design was very different.
Besides, it's against Wizards contracts to look at any custom designed cards. I don't think any designers are willing to put their jobs on the line to wade through the seas of garbage designs to find the gems, when they could simply try to design gems themselves.
