*EDIT - I apologise, I was trying to rely on the truism that brevity as the soul of wit. To further offend your minds and devour your time, I will expand my claim further:
I developed "Arcanist: A Colluding" at the age of two (an entire YEAR before m:tg) in the form of a board game. The Black Walrus piece provided you with three bad punchlines at the start of the game. It was all very symbolic. Sadly, the game's post-modern themes, marxist leanings and mind-screw ending (instead of a 'finish' square there was a 'start' square. It was all very symbolic) didn't go over too well in an age dominated by RoboRally. But I made Black Lotus first.
I'm sure a lot of people have come up with variants of persist before Shadowmoor. But, I did have the idea for "Rebirth (When this creature is put into a graveyard from play, if it had no rebirth counters on it, return it to play with a rebirth counter.) Not as integrated as in the set.
I had my take on wither before shadowmoor. My take was an extension of poison counters. Luckily, wither came out. Now for my set, I can use wither and poisonous X, over poisontouch (which turned out to be too wordy in the reminder text department, having). Now I creatures that use poison have posionous X (where X is its power) and wither. It clears a ton of room that would have been used as reminder text.

Regenerate target permanent. The arrow was sticking out of Gerrard's hat. A half-inch lower and it would have been sticking out of his head. He didn't have time to yank it out, as he was busy charging the enemy, but he muttered to nobody in particular, "Thanks, I owe you another one."
after GetItWrong made it but before Reknit came out.
Yeah, but both of those cards you just described are similar to Death Ward. I had that in my ice age deck back in the day. I thought it looked familiar.
I did a kind of persist long before even Lorwyn, much less Shadowmoor came out. Observe the following:
Parthenogenesis 1GGG
Enchantment
Whenever a creature is put into your graveyard from play, if it didn't have any -1/-1 counters on it, return it to play tapped with two -1/-1 counters on it.
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
I had basically designed Savor the Moment, since before even the Time Spiral block was finished, under the name of Time Flicker. Then I figured it was pretty much useless, so I changed it to "Skip the draw step of that turn" and upped the cost to 3U.
Flash forward a couple blocks, I look at Shadowmoor's spoiler list, and I see they used that original idea. I chuckled.

My sig is not trolling. And it's not opinion, it's fact.
And I'm not changing it. I'm not gonna be browbeated by a moderator, simply because you don't like the fact that I'm bringing to light that the staff suspends half-decent posters, while allowing trolls to run rampant.
Well, you've still got about fourteen hours before you're infracted for noncompliance. Talk to whomever you want.
Well they basically took the evoke mechanic from me. I designed the mechanic "mirage" several years ago. It has minor differences (RFG, and it's done at the end of turn, gets haste) with regards to evoke, though.

~ is every land type. (Insert a lot of reminder text here.)
Which was a Legendary Basic Snow Land - Urza's Lair Locus Desert Plains Island Swamp Mountain Forest and more. However, it was the first card to have all basic land types in one single card.
But the oldest would be my two year old version of Manamorphose:
Even as early as november 2007, I already made sure domain could have a single card to have all basic land types ready:

Legendary, Snow, and Basic are not land types. Also, what card already in print does it relate to?
I made a black 2/3 with Deathtouch for four mana. And sure enough, in the next set, there was a black 2/3 with Deathtouch for four mana.
Now, I cost things looking at similar past cards and try to extrapolate (probably everybody does that,) and I remember arriving at 2BB and thinking it was a little pushed but ok. The Winnower was costed at 3B.
That made me think they were pushing creatures in Lorwyn haha. It was interesting.
I also had an unfinished green 2/1 por G with a HUGE drawback (not combat related.) Rare even. You know how that turned out lol.
Butcher Beast :2mana::symg::symg:
Creature - Beast
If a creature dealt damage by Butcher Beast this turn would be put into a graveyard, remove it from the game instead.
Put a creature card removed from the game by Butcher Beast into its owner's graveyard: Butcher Beast gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

Giant Ground Sloth :3mana::symr:
Creature - Beast
If Giant Ground Sloth would deal damage, prevent that damage unless it was dealt damage this turn.

Darkfire deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
I came up with that one about 2 months or so ago.
On a different note, I actually came up with something almost identical to Split Second about 3 years ago, but I don't think I put any of it on here... just some personal cards I made for one of my early sets.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
I had created Mirror Gallery as an enchantment, without the cheatyface text they used. I actually laid out the effect (that was fun :\).
I also submitted something similar to Angel's Grace for the last YMTC before Time Spiral came out. Difference was I made it an enchantment, and it did a one shot replacement effect for losing the game. It just undid most conditions where you would lose the game. Their templating was much more reasonable.
I was also working on a Legend cenetered set before CHK, but there were fewer legends, and a whole lot more cards that worked with legendary creatures (including one I have that extends the legend rule into the graveyard.)
Oops, forgot about making Remand, except it cost 1 more, and prevented them from playing cards with that name again for the turn.
I also came up with twincast first (I know it was fork first, but I came up with it for blue first).
And in recent news...I came up with the untap mechanic as a cost.
