Just a few cards I've made here and there. I'll start off with three.
Ishara, Aria of the Night - :1mana::symb::symb:
Legendary Creature - Vampire Assassin
Fear
Whenever Ishara, Aria of the Night deals combat damage to a player, you may pay :1mana::symb::symb:. If you do, that player sacrifices a creature of your choice. Put a +1/+1 counter on Ishara. The haunting melody of her voice freezes men in their tracks, allowing her unfettered access to their necks, and her next meal.
1/2
Fury of the Imprisoned - :2mana::symrg::symrg: (Created for August FCC Round 2)
Sorcery
Until end of turn, creatures you own get +X/+X, Haste, and Trample, where X is the number of permanents you own but do not control.
Gain control of all permanents you own. "The wall around me, eyes surround me, feed my fear again. I must be freed or I will die before the harvest moon my friend! I do not have another year in me you have to set me free!" —Tony Kakko, Sonata Arctica, "The Cage"
Crystalline Hellkite - :6mana::symwu::symwu::symwu: (Created for August FCC Round 3)
Snow Creature - Dragon
Flying
Double all noncombat damage that would be dealt to Crystalline Hellkite from Red sources.
:snow::snow::snow:: The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you or Crystalline Hellkite this turn, that damage is dealt to target creature or player instead. It has no breath; its frozen scales amplify and reflect light into a beam brighter and more powerful than any dragon's flame.
6/6
Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Ideally, I'll be updating this thread once or twice a week with new stuff.
So you're a power metal fan too? Fury of the Imprisoned is quite nice and probably better than that Brooding Saurian since the bonus is regardless of whether they Control Magicked your creature or not.
Ishara reminds me a lot of Slith Bloodletter, but it's a lot more vulnerable while having a better ability. The nice thing is that you only have to spend the extra 1BB if you know for sure the creature is going to die, making this a 1BB investment at most if they remove it. The fear gives it the Shadowmage synergy: combat damage trigger + evasion. Being legendary doesn't make it broken, but even if you had two in play you won't be able to use the trigger twice+ a turn unless you have lots of mana available. It shuts down aggro nicely but the 1/2 body isn't awe-inspiring compared to Paladin en-Vec's invulnerability.
Hellkites are usually called Hellkite for flavor reason: they turn things into flame, hence the Hell part. It seems that this particular breed has a weakness to red, especially Volcanic Hammer. A 6/6 for 9 mana isn't exactly great either, but the hybrid mana and 9cc might as well make it colorless if your deck contains either of the colors. I would say damage redirection is WR and not WU now, so W still makes sense but technically all blue can do is prevent and not actually redirect.
Ishara's the one I'm mainly worried about. I'm not sure if she's too expensive or too cheap. As for Fury, I took it as a huge compliment when Kraj and SALAd practically fell in love with it last month. Also, the Hellkite was based on a combination of Silver Wyvern, Firestorm Hellkite, and Crimson Hellkite.
Magma Runner - :2mana::symr::symr::symr:
Creature - Giant Berserker
Haste, Flash
When Magma Runner comes into play, attach target equipment you control to it. "'Cross the lava bridge', you said. 'What could possibly go wrong?' you said. I'll tell you: It's swinging around a gargantuan club and COMING RIGHT FOR US!"
4/3
Ogre Champion - :3mana::symr::symr:
Creature - Ogre Warrior
Other Ogres you control get +1/+1 and have haste. Anyone who gives her lip becomes the horde's next meal.
3/3
Jormungand Wurm - :7mana::symb::symb::symg::symg:
Legendary Creature - Wurm
Trample
If Jormungand Wurm would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, shuffle it into its owner's library instead.
Sacrifice two forests: Target player sacrifices a creature. Eternally gnawing the roots of the tree of life, its arrival heralds the end of a plane.
13/13
Once again, comments and suggestions are appreciated.
Is that first comment supposed to be about Jormungand Wurm? Anyway, I know that Magma Runner is crazy-good for it's cost. Haste + Flash on a 4/3 for 5 Mana, with a free equip is probably worth more than 5CC. I origionally had the cost at 3RR, but that obsoleted Thundering Giant, which was just 4/3 Haste. I could probably make the Runner 4RR and it would still be good.
Ogre Champion's cost had me on the fence. I was debating between 2RR, 3RR, or something like 2BR or 1BRR. I couldn't really make up my mind.
I think I'll just post these in sets of three... These are all cards done in the Champs promo style because of their magnificent arts, once again ganked from PBG's art thread.
Demon Charmer - 1WB
Creature - Human Cleric
You may choose to not untap Demon Charmer during your untap step.
Whenever Demon Charmer becomes untapped, remove all Demon tokens you control from the game.
Whenever you lose control of a Demon, you lose life equal to its power.
T: Choose one — Gain control of target Demon as long as Demon Charmer is tapped, or put a 5/5 black Demon creature token with Flying into play.
1/2
Erynis, the Edged Oak - 2GG
Legendary Creature - Human Warrior
Trample
Erynis, the Edged Oak gets +1/+1 for each Forest you control and an additional +1/+0 for each Forest card in your graveyard.
Sacrifice a Forest: Regenerate Erynis. Llanowar justice is merciful compared to hers
1/3
Crystalline Wishes - <NULL>
Sorcery
Crystalline Wishes is Blue.
Suspend 9 — U
Choose any number of cards you own from outside the game and put a time counter on each of them. Those cards are now suspended. Remove Crystalline Wishes from the game. Her deepest desires, locked in shards of ice, yearning to be released.
Crystalline Wishes basically gives you your entire sideboard to play for free in a tournament setting, and it says "Win the game" when you have your entire binder to draw from. It does this about 11+X turns faster than Darksteel Reactor, where X is approximately 3. If you can play Crystalline Wishes for free somehow (get around paying for the null mana cost), then it's fantastic and wunderbar.
Demon Charmer is interesting and flavorful, but it has way too much text. I'm sure you can condense them into fewer abilities. Also, it's vulnerable to being untapped, but it's not vulnerable to burn after it makes a giant Demon? Shouldn't Shocking it also kill the Demon it made?
Erynis has power and toughness all over the place. Blanchwood-on-a-stick isn't bad, and she'll probably be 5/7 when you play her in a monogreen deck, growing bigger with every turn and making Vinelasher Kudzu look silly. Simplifying her makes her more elegant and less broken. How about p/t each equal to forests in play only, and then the sacrifice ability shouldn't still give her a power boost.
I've updated a few cards to use FirePenguinMaster's awesome card frame, as well as made a few new ones:
Combustion Elemental - 3RR
Creature - Elemental
Echo 1RR
When Combustion Elemental comes into play, it deals 3 damage to target creature.
When Combustion Elemental leaves play, if its Echo cost wasn't paid, it deals 5 damage to each player.
At end of turn, if Combustion Elemental's Echo cost was paid, remove it from the game, then return it to play.
5/3
Bonding Chains - 2WW
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant Creature
As Bonding Chains comes into play, choose a creature you control. That creature becomes bonded to enchanted creature.
You control enchanted creature.
Enchanted creature cannot attack or block and its activated abilities cannot be played.
Whenever the bonded creature performs an action, enchanted creature copies that action.
Semnas, The Demon's Fang - 7
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +3/+3.
While equipped creature is in play, Semnas, the Demon's Claw may not be unattached from it and its equip ability may not be played.
Whenever Equipped creature attacks, you may pay 2BB. If you do, it gets an additional +3/+3, gains flying and trample, and becomes a Demon until end of turn. At end of turn, put a -1/-1 counter on it.
Equip — Sacrifice a creature not equipped by Semnas.
Archer, Emiya Shiro - :3mana::symrw::symrw:
Legendary Creature - Human Rogue
Cumulative Upkeep
Archer, Emiya Shiro comes into play with three Age Counters on it.
:symrw:: Put an Age Counter on Archer. Play this ability only once each turn.
Remove an Age Counter from Archer: Search your library for an Equipment card and attach it to Archer. Shuffle your library.
At end of turn, sacrifice Archer if it has no Age Counters on it. Shuffle all Equipment attached to Archer into your Library. "I made them all myself"
2/2
This would have been my entry for Round 1 of this month's FCC, except for the fact that it's horridly broken. And it suffers from "Wall-o-Text," and it's based on a fictional character, not an original creation. So yeah....
Moving along....
Rite of the Forge - :symur::symur::symur:
Sorcery
As an additional cost to play Rite of the Forge, sacrifice any number of Artifacts with total converted mana cost X.
Search your hand, library, and/or graveyard for an Artifact Creature card with converted mana cost X or less and put it into play. If you searched your library this way, shuffle it.
Replicate :xmana::symur: To the Izzet, there is no such thing as "junk."
This is a slightly fixed/powered up version of my Round 1 card from last month. I ended up losing by a half-point due to a wording error and because my judge didn't think Tinker belonged in Red.
Finally, my card for the current FCC Round: Make a Red, non-Sorcery card with at least RR in its cost.
Sundering Heavens - 2RR
Instant Radiance — Sundering Heavens deals 1 damage to target creature and each creature that shares a color with it. This damage cannot be prevented.
Storm
If WW was spent to play Sundering Heavens, you gain life equal to the damage dealt by each spell named Sundering Heavens this turn.
This card was a ***** to cost and name. I wanted to originally make it a Hybrid card and have the lifegain part of the effect. Then I wanted it to cost RRWW, but realized it would never get played that way.And the really awkward wording for the "Enhance" part of the spell was to ensure the lifegain worked properly as mana spent is not a copiable property.
If you wanted it to be hybrid all you had to do was get rid of the lifegain and make it damage to combat creatures only. Anyway, it's great limited removal but hard to storm out in constructed. Usually you get something like Brightflame for 2-3 at instant speed out of it, and it doesn't even require commitment to white. Being creature-only greatly limits its viability for being a "power card" (see Skred which is basically Swords to Plowshares).
Wow.. Five years since I've posted here, but a Necro comes with content! Innistrad's new mechanics finally reignited my creative spark after a few years of inactivity, so I decided to make a few cards with it.
First, an old card that I finally gave a name to:
Civilization's Collapse :2mana::sym2b::sym2r:
Sorcery (Unc) (:sym2b: can be paid for with any two mana or :symb:. This card’s converted mana cost is 6.)
Affinity for nonbasic lands (This spell costs less to cast for each nonbasic land you control.)
Destroy target land. No city stands forever.
And now brand new content!
Makoto Nanaya, Infiltrator <NULL>
Legendary Creature — Squirrel Ninja (MR)
Intimidate
Ninjutsu GGG
Whenever Makoto Nanaya, Infiltrator deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Whenever Makoto deals combat damage to a player, you may draw that many cards.
Remove a drive counter from Makoto: Makoto gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
1/1
Character imported from the fighting game BlazBlue
Makoto Nanaya is a Squirrel Beastman, or human-squirrel hybrid. She is a member of the NOL Intelligence department and works directly under Hazama, a.k.a. Yuuki Terumi. She is childhood friends with Noel Vermillion, Jin Kisaragi, Tsubaki Yayoi, and Carl Clover, having attended the NOL academy with them. Though she works for the NOL on the surface, she is actually a mole planted by Sector Seven in order to gather evidence of the NOL's corruption. Makoto is fiercely protective of her friends and will savagely attack anyone who hurts them.
Jin Kisaragi, Hero of Ikaruga 3UU
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier (MR)
Whenever Jin Kisaragi, Hero of Ikaruga deals damage, put a drive counter on it, then if there are five or more drive counters on it, remove all but one of them and transform it.
Remove a drive counter from Jin: You may tap or untap target creature.
Remove three drive counters from Jin: Target player skips his or her next untap step.
3/4
\\\\\
Haku-Men, Hero of the Dark War <NULL>
Legendary Artifact Creature — Samurai
Bushido 2, Vigilance
At the beginning of each upkeep and whenever Haku-Men, Hero of the Dark War deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Remove a drive counter from Haku-Men: The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to Haku-Men this turn, that damage is dealt to its controller instead.
Remove a drive counter from Haku-Men: You may change the targets of target spell or ability that targets you or Haku-Men.
5/5
Character imported from the fighting game BlazBlue
Jin Kisaragi is a decorated major of the Novus Orbus Librarium, or NOL. He wields the Nox Nyctores Yukianesa, a magical sword made of ice. It gives him control over frost and moisture, which he can use to freeze his foes solid or crystallize ambient moisture into ice projectiles. He is hailed as the Hero of Ikaruga due to single-handedly ending the Ikaruga Civil War and assassinating Lord Tenjo of Ikaruga. Jin is the "World's Antibody" and possesses the "Power of Order" which allows him to ignore most types of mental attacks, including the brunt of the psychological damage caused by the Nox Nyctores weapons on their weilders.
Haku-Men is Jin from another timeline. More specifically, he is the "original" Jin. On New Years Eve, AD 2199, Jin Kisaragi is mortally wounded by the android Nu-13 and falls into a time portal, propelling him nearly 100 years into the past. As he lay dying, he is found by the vampire princess Rachel Alucard, who transposes his soul into the Susano-O armor, giving him new life as Haku-Men. Haku-Men wields the Nox Nyctores Ookami, allowing him to slice through anything and leave unhealing wounds in its wake. Even in this form, he still possesses the Power of Order and has honed it into his fighting style, using it to reject any enemy's attack and turn it back on them.
Valkenhayn R. Hellsing 2WW
Legendary Creature — Human Werewolf (MR)
Whenever Valkenhayn R. Hellsing deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Remove a drive counter from Valkenhayn: Target creature you control gains protection from the color of your choice until end of turn.
Remove a drive counter from Valkenhayn: Transform Valkenhayn.
3/5
\\\\\
Savage Valkenhayn <NULL>
Legendary Creature — Werewolf
Whenever Savage Valkenhayn deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Remove a drive counter from Valkenhayn: Valkenhayn fights target creature.
Remove a drive counter from Valkenhayn: Regenerate Valkenhayn.
Whenever Valkenhayn has no drive counters on it, transform it.
6/5
Character imported from the fighting game BlazBlue
Valkenhayn R. Hellsing is the personal butler of Rachel Alucard, having served her for nearly a century. He, along with Haku-Men and Yuuki Terumi, formed half of the Six Heroes of the Dark War, helping to slay the Black Beast 100 years prior. Valkenhayn has mastered his lycanthropy and can call on it whenever he wishes to shift into a much more powerful wolf form.
Saber, Arturia Pendragon 4WW
Legendary Creature — Human Knight
Saber, Arturia Pendragon enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it.
Vigilance, first strike
Whenever Saber deals combat damage, you may pay 2. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Remove four +1/+1 counters from Saber: Destroy all creatures controlled by each player that was dealt combat damage by Saber this turn.
2/2
Character imported from Fate:Stay/Night
Arturia Pendragon, daughter of Uther Pendragon, became king of the Brittons by pulling the legendary Caladbolg from the stone. She ruled fairly from Camelot with her twelve knights until a Homunculus claiming to be her son attempted to claim the throne for itself. Arturia and the Homunculus met each other on the fields of battle and slew each other in a brutal conflict that left both armies nearly wiped out. As she lay dying, Arturia made a pact with the world. Her soul would become a Legendary spirit to be summoned as a Servant in the Holy Grail War. Should she and her Master win this war, she would be granted one wish. Centuries later, Arturia was summoned by Kiritsugu Emiya in the fourth Grail War. She served him loyally, but was betrayed in the end when Kiritsugu forced her to destroy the grail just as it was within her reach. Ten years later, Saber was summoned into the fifth Grail War by the adopted son of Kiritsugu, Shiro Emiya.
And yes, I do realize that I pushed the hell out of the power levels of the Legends.
Here's a couple more cards that have been wasting away on my HD these past few years. Significantly lower power level than the BB and FSN customs. I actually have the entire BB cast made in card form, but can't post most of them due to the Card Art rules, unfortunately.
First, some older cards:
Exiled Watchtower
Tribal Artifact — Rebel Fortification (Rare)
Fortified land has “:3mana:, :symtap:: Search your library for a Rebel permanent card with a converted mana cost of 3 or less and put it into the battlefield. Then shuffle your library.”
Fortify No matter the cause, all who fight for freedom may find sanctuary within.
Search for Civilization :2mana::sym2g::sym2w:
Sorcery (Unc) (:sym2g: can be payed for with any two mana or :symg:. This card's converted mana cost is 6)
Affinity for basic lands (This spell costs less to cast for each basic land you control.)
Search your library for a land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library. Even the greatest journey begins with a single step.
This card is part of a cycle with Civilization's Collapse, and was in fact that card that caused me to go on a 2-year hiatus from making cards in the first place after a rather... unfriendly dispute between myself and my judge in the Contest forum.
Trinket Ward 2RR
Enchantment — Aura (Rare)
Enchant artifact you control
When enchanted artifact dies, put a red Dragon creature token with power and toughness each equal to that artifact’s converted mana cost. It has flying and all abilities of that artifact. Some dragons lay their eggs in the very treasures they hoard.
And a few more BlazBlue Characters:
Rachel Alucard, Observer 1UBR
Legendary Creature — Vampire Wizard (MR)
Flying, hexproof
Whenever Rachel Alucard, Observer deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Remove a drive counter from Rachel: Target creature must attack or block this turn if able.
Remove two drive counters from Rachel: Target creature gets -3/-0 until end of turn. Target creature gets -0/-3 until end of turn.
1/3
Rachel Alucard is a centuries old vampire and head of the Alucard family house. She is a master of wind and lightning magic and is always accompanied by her three familiars: Gii, an overweight bat she uses mostly as stress relief; Nagao, an effeminate shapeshifting cat she uses as her parasol, chair, and a variety of other things; and George the XIII, a small frog that can generate a field of electricity. Her personal servant is the werewolf Valkenhayn R. Hellsing, who with Yuuki Terumi and Haku-Men formed half of the six great heroes of the Dark War. Rachel has been chosen by Takamagahara to be the Observer over the world, to monitor but never interfere without due cause. She was the one who infected Ragna with vampirism and maintains a rather vitrolic love-hate relationship with the criminal. As the Observer, Rachel maintains her memories during each iteration of the time loop, starting 100 years in the past when the Black Beast attacks the world in the first Dark War, through present day when Nu-13 defeats Ragna the Bloodedge and plunges the both of them into the cauldron of Kagutsuchi shortly before the Nox satellite weapon Take-Mikazuchi destroys the city. Rachel subtly influences each of the main players in these events in order to try and break free of the loop, but because of her position cannot take an active hand in the matters. When Noel Vermillion finally manages to breach the loop by rescuing Ragna from Nu in the 725th Phase, Rachel defies Takamagahara and and deflects Take-Mikazuchi's attack using the impenetrable shield of the Tsukuyomi Unit. With the loop broken and the flow of time restored, Rachel begins to take a more active hand in stopping the plans of Terumi and the NOL in order to save the world.
Taokaka, Apprentice Vigilante 3RG
Legendary Creature — Cat Berserker (MR)
Double strike, haste
Whenever Taokaka, Apprentice Vigilante deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Remove a drive counter from Taokaka: This turn you may have Taokaka assign its combat damage as though it weren’t blocked.
Remove two drive counters from Taokaka: Taokaka gets +3/+3 until end of turn.
2/4
Taokaka is... Well she... Um... Ok. Tao's an idiot. She's a member of the Kaka clan, a tribe of cat-like Beastmen that live underneath Kagutsuchi. The Kaka clan was created by cloning the DNA of Jubei, one of the Six Heroes of the Dark War. While the Kakas are all incredible warriors, they're only imperfect replicas of the original. Tao is about the equivalent of a teenager in terms of age, and is about as intelligent as a pile of bricks. Tao has the most extreme case of Attention Defecit "Ooh, Shiny!" you will ever see. About the only things that will keep her attention are sparring, breasts, and food. Tao does not know anyone by name, and instead gives nicknames based on the attribute of a person she most remembers. Tsubaki, for example, is "Red Lady" because of her red hair. Noel, on the other hand, is "Lacking Lady" because of her small chest. Litchi, on the other hand, is "Boobie Lady" thanks to her.. enormous assets. Tao is currently hunting for the dreaded criminal "Rawrgna the Bloodedge" in order to obtain money for her village; at least, when she's not busy stuffing her face.
Got some more BlazBlue and Fate:Stay/Night inspired cards for you today.
First, the BlazBlue:
Arakune, Azure Obsessed 1BB
Legendary Creature — Insect Ooze (MR)
Whenever Arakune, Azure Obsessed or another Insect creature you control deals damage, put a drive counter on Arakune.
Remove a drive counter from Arakune: Put a 1/1 black Insect creature token onto the battlefield with flying.
Sacrifice an insect: Target creature gets -2/-1 until end of turn.
Sacrifice an insect: Regenerate Arakune.
1/3
Arakune, or Lotte "Roy" Carmine, was once human. He started as an intern at Sector Seven, working under the scientist Kokonoe. As he learned and studied there, he found out about the Azure Grimoire and wanted to use it to harness the power of the Boundary as a potential unlimited power source. Kokonoe immediately rebuffed him, saying it was useless, but he pressed on. Arakune's continued experiments caused him to expose himself to an enormous amount of Boundary corruption, mutating his body into an amorphous mass of bone, insects, rotting tissue, and other unnameable goop. Becoming increasingly unhinged from his transformation, Arakune escaped Sector Seven and travelled to Kagutsuchi where what little fragment of his mind that remained continued his research into the Azure until he could acquire it for himself.
(Unable to find artist credit for Terumi's Influence image despite best efforts. Originally found in a BlazBlue Fanart thread on Dustloop)
Yuuki Terumi, Renegade Hero 2UB
Legendary Creature — Spirit Rogue (MR)
Hexproof
Yuuki Terumi, Renegade Hero is unblockable.
At the beginning of each upkeep and whenever Terumi deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Remove X drive counters from Terumi: Transform Terumi and attach it to target creature with converted mana cost X. X can’t be zero.
1/3
\\\\\
Terumi's Influence <NULL>
Legendary Tribal Enchantment — Spirit Aura
Enchant creature
You control enchanted creature.
At the beginning of each upkeep and whenever enchanted creature deals damage, put a drive counter on Terumi’s Influence.
If Terumi’s Influence would be put into a graveyard while it’s not attached to a creature, transform it instead.
:0mana:: You may sacrifice enchanted creature.
Yuuki Terumi is a disembodied spirit, and a monstrous troll. He is directly responsible for almost every cataclysmic event that has happened since the Black Beast attacked the planet 100 years prior. In fact, he and Relius Clover are two of the three individuals responsible for the creation of the Black Beast! He is recognized as one of the Six Heroes from the Dark War simply because he did assist the other five heroes with slaying the monster; they were not aware of his role in it's creation. Terumi has the ability to temporarily possess weak-willed individuals as he did to Jin Kisaragi about a decade prior. Terumi then seemingly vanished for several years, but was actually in hiding as Hazama, captain of the NOL Intelligence Division. From there he saw to assigning Noel to serve under Jin Kisaragi and then later sending Tsubaki Yayoi to kill her childhood friends. After Tsubaki's expected failure, Hazama captures Noel and destroys her mind, reverting her into Mu-12. Hazama is seemingly always one step ahead of everyone else, as like Rachel, his memories exist outside the time loops and he has seen every possible outcome and plans accordingly.
Take-Mikazuchi, Gigant :sym2w::sym2u::sym2b::sym2r::sym2g:
Legendary Artifact — Nox
Shroud
At the beginning of each opponent’s upkeep, put a drive counter on Take-Mikazuchi, Gigant. Then if there are seven or more drive counters on Take-Mikazuchi, remove all drive counters from it and destroy all nonland permanents that player controls.
:3mana:: Put a drive counter on Take-Mikazuchi. Any player may activate this ability.
The satellite Nox Nyctores Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi sits in high orbit around the planet Earth. It's master is currently unknown, but every four years it is able to awaken and fire a devastating arcane blast, utterly annihilating its target. It is responsible for the destruction of the city of Ibukido and Kagutsuchi during the many time loops. Take-Mikazuchi's wrath on Kagutsuchi was finally averted during the 725th loop when Rachel Alucard activated the Tsukuyomi Unit and deflected the Nox's attack to a nearby mountainside. Take-Mikazuchi has since gone back to sleep for another four years.
Then, the Fate:
Lancer, Cu Chulainn 3BW
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier (MR)
First strike
Whenever Lancer, Cu Chulainn deals combat damage, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Remove X +1/+1 counters from Lancer: Choose a creature with toughness X or less and exile it.
Remove all +1/+1 counters from Lancer: Choose an opponent whose life total is less than or equal to the number of +1/+1 counters removed this way. That player loses the game.
2/2
Setanta, also known as Cu Chulainn (the Hound of Chulainn), is an Irish mythological hero. He possesses the mystic spear Gae Bolg, which can instantly and fatally pierce the heart of any opponent no matter their defense. It does this by first piercing the opponent's heart then reversing causality to create the opening necessary to allow it. Lancer was originally summoned to the Fifth Holy Grail War by the magus Bazett Fraga McRemitz. She was killed by the priest Kirei Kotomine, who then stole Lancer's command seals and forced him to do his bidding. Lancer was eventually killed by Gilgamesh, King of Heroes, and the Archer of the Fourth Holy Grail War.
Rider, Medusa BB:symgw::symgw:
Legendary Creature — Gorgon Rogue (MR)
Reach, vigilance
Whenever a creature dealt damage by Rider, Medusa this turn dies, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
T: Rider deals 2 damage to target creature. Put a +1/+1 counter on Rider.
T, Remove all +1/+1 counters from Rider: Choose target player. If five or more +1/+1 counters were removed this way, until end of turn, that player can’t cast spells or activate abilities and creatures he or she controls can’t attack or block.
1/4
Medusa, eldest of the three gorgon sisters, and also the only mortal one. Medusa and her sisters were originally born from the wishes of humans seeking pure goddesses of beauty, but were betrayed by the machinations of Athena who turned their worshipers against them. Medusa and her sisters fled to the Shapeless Isle. Bitter and resentful of her treatment, Medusa began to hunt and devour humans who came to visit her sisters, eventually mutating into the form most gorgons are known for. Perseus then came to the Isle and slew Medusa, ending her misery and loneliness. Medusa was originally summoned into the Fifth Holy Grail War by Sakura Matou, but due to her unease at the idea of fighting her close friend Shirou Emiya, her brother Shinji forced her to transfer control of Rider and her command seals to him instead. Shinji's gross incompetence as a master cost both of them their lives, as Rider is killed by Saber's Excalibur and shortly afterwards, Shinji himself is slain by Illyasviel's Berserker.
Thing is, I'm actually looking for feedback on power level of the cards. I know they're seriously pushing power levels and could probably stand to tack on an extra mana or two, but I want to see what other people think before I go willy-nilly adjusting them.
Thing is, I'm actually looking for feedback on power level of the cards. I know they're seriously pushing power levels and could probably stand to tack on an extra mana or two, but I want to see what other people think before I go willy-nilly adjusting them.
I've found that the only true way to determine power level is to playtest with cards. I've had cards that I thought were OP turn out to be underwhelming, and cards I thought were UP had to be tuned down. Try them out and make changes as needed.
Fortify
This was a creative keyword from Future Sight. Nowadays, I would probably let the effect search for human soldiers or something like that.
I'm guessing you're not too familiar with Rebels and their recruitment mechanic? The idea was that Rebels could search your library for another Rebel with CMC up to one higher than the recruiter for one extra mana. So a 2-cost Rebel could fetch a 3-cost for 4 mana. This basically makes the land into a 2-cost recruiter (note that the land is tapped, technically the fourth mana for the cost of recruiting).
Search for Civilization :2mana::sym2g::sym2w:
Since this is an uncommon sorcery, I would keep the cost simple, say 2(G/W)?
If it didn't have affinity, I would agree with you. Keep in mind, this can be cast turn 2 with a Basic Forest and Basic Plains, or turn 3 with any three Basics, thanks to the way mono-hybrid works. Also, the card fetches any land, not just Basics.
Trinket Ward 2RR
Enchantment — Aura (Rare)
Enchant artifact you control
When enchanted artifact dies, put a red Dragon creature token with power and toughness each equal to that artifact’s converted mana cost. It has flying and all abilities of that artifact.
This is a good card. I need one of these in my set! Maybe this could be a sorcery, putting a special counter on target artifact?
Err... How would that fix it? Unless the sorcery simply turned the artifact itself into the dragon? The idea is that the artifact is the egg, "hatching" when it dies, and the newborn "inherits" the artifacts capabilities.
Thanks for the feedback, though, I do appreciate it.
Might of the Legion 1WW
Enchantment — Aura (Unc)
Enchant creature Radiance — Enchanted creature and each other creature that shares a color with it get +1/+1.
Enchanted creature has “Radiance — 2R,T: This creature and each other creature that shares a color with it deal 1 damage to target creature.” Strong and noble, the Legion protects Ravnica by punishing those who oppose it. With swift, merciless violence.
I always felt that Radiance was an underutilized mechanic back in Ravnica and was severely disappointed that it wasn't revisited in Future Sight. The flavor text I came up with for this card still amuses me to this day.
Verdant Discovery 2G
Sorcery (Unc)
Search your library for a land card and put it into the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.
Whenever you clash and win, you may return Verdant Discovery from your graveyard to your hand.
Nothing special. Just a typical Rampant Growth variant that can fetch any land (designed for EDH! Err... Not really. I didn't play EDH that much back then) and a Clash rider to make it worth the extra mana.
Now for some more potentially busted Legends from BlazBlue and Fate:Stay/Night!
Tsubaki Yayoi, Blind Justice 2WW
Legendary Creature — Human Assassin (MR)
Whenever Tsubaki Yayoi, Blind Justice deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Tsubaki gets +1/+1 for each drive counter on it.
Remove two drive counters from Tsubaki: Destroy target creature that dealt damage this turn.
2/3
Tsubaki Yayoi is a member of the NOL's cleanup squad: the Wings of Justice, or Zeroth Squadron. Tsubaki attended the NOL academy along with Jin Kisaragi, Noel Vermillion, Makoto Nanaya and Carl Clover. Tsubaki wields the Armagus Izayoi, a shapeshifting weapon designed to fight the Azure by "stealing light." Izayoi forms her battle outfit as well as her sword and the book she carries. Izayoi can block any form of energy, from radio communications to visible light. It is also capable of disrupting Takamagahara's clairvoyance. Izayoi steals any light to fuel its power, and its continued use is causing Tsubaki to slowly go blind.
Story-wise, she's strictly mono-white in alignment. She's also an assassin, not a soldier or a mage, so finding a set of abilities that play to the flavor of a mono-white assassin was a pain. I eventually settled on the growth effect, referencing her in-game ability to charge her special attacks; and a retribution ability, which felt very white. The numbers might need a little adjusting, but I'm happy with the way she turned out.
Archer, Emiya Shirou :5mana::symrw::symrw:
Legendary Creature — Human Warrior (MR)
Archer enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it.
:symrw::symrw::symrw:: Put +1/+1 counter on Archer.
Remove X +1/+1 counters from Archer: Search your library for an Equipment card with converted mana cost X and put it onto the battlefield. Attach it to Archer. Then shuffle your library.
:0mana:: Remove all +1/+1 counters from Archer. For each +1/+1 counter removed this way, search your library for an Equipment card and put it onto the battlefield. Attach those Equipment to Archer. Then shuffle your library. At the beginning of the next end step, shuffle those Equipment into their owner’s libraries.

Shirou Emiya was originally an orphan, the lone survivor of the cataclysmic explosion that ended the Fourth Holy Grail War. He was adopted by Kiritsugu Emiya and raised as a normal human, despite having some potential for magic. He trained in secret, learning basic reinforcement magic that eventually evolved into the forbidden projection magic, where he can materialize solid objects my merely imagining them. Shirou enters the Fifth Grail War by accidentially summoning Arturia Pendragon as his Servant of the Saber class, and goes on to win the War. Like his adoptive father, though, he sees the Grail's corruption and orders Saber to destroy it in the end. He eventually becomes a hero like in his dream, but is betrayed by a person he saved and put to death. As the Grail summons heroes throughout history past and future to become Servants for the war, he makes a pact to be a Legendary Hero for the insane chance of actually being summoned into a past war, specifically the Fifth Grail War, to try and stop himself. His gambit succeeds, and he is summoned by Rin Tousaka as a servant of the Archer class. He seeks to kill his younger self, causing a paradox that will eject his soul from service as a Legendary Hero and Counter Guardian. Archer's projection magic allows him to manifest any weapon he has seen, and his ultimate technique, Unlimited Blade Works, creates a reality marble, or pocket dimension, where he has infinite mana for projection and can assault his opponents with an infinite number of weapons for as long as it lasts.
Hoo boy, where to begin! I've been working on this sucker for years, and I think I finally got a version I can be satisfied with. The first ability represents gathering mana, obviously, feeding into hsi second and third abilities. The second is projection, allowing him to summon any weapon he desires at cost. The final ability is the big one, Unlimited Blade Works. I made sure to word the ability to nuke the counters after it already started resolving, so that Archer won't get axed before he has the chance to play with all his new toys. Of course, getting a whole crapton of equipment for free is incredibly broken, so they only last for a short bit.
Caster, Medea the Witch 3UB
Legendary Creature — Elf Wizard
Defender, hexproof
At the beginning of each upkeep, you may put a +1/+1 counter on Caster.
Remove all +1/+1 counters from Caster: Add mana in any combination of colors to your mana pool equal to the number of +1/+1 counters removed this way. This mana may only be spent to cast instant and/or sorcery spells. Spells cast this way may not have other sources of mana spent on them and may be cast as though they had flash.
0/4
No backstory for this one, sorry. Anyway, The idea is that Caster herself is an incredibly powerful mage, so she should help you cast your spells when she deigns to. Interestingly, she also gets more powerful in multiplayer and becomes a much larger target, just like in the source material. In the fourth and fifth Grail Wars, it ends up taking 2-5 other Master/Servant teams working together to take down the Caster of that particular war, since in 1-on-1 they get toasted by the Caster's mastery of anti-army magic which can penetrate the natural magic resistance of most servants.
Alia, Mindseeker 2UU
Legendary Creature — Eliwan Wizard (Rare)
Flying, Vigilance
You can’t cast spells with dream. 2RR,T: Alia deals 4 damage to target creature and 2 damage to itself. The grace of a morning breeze, and the fury of a raging inferno.
2/3
Alia is a character I created for an old RP I used to play in based on the card game Magi-Nation. In the game, there are twelve "tribes" of characters, each with control over a different element. Alia is unique in that she is the daughter of a woman from the Wind tribe and a man of the Fire tribe, which almost never happens. She inherited a massive aptitude for magic from her parents at the expense of having an semi-explosive allergic reaction to animite, a material used in the summoning of creatures.

As you can see, porting characters into new media is a bit of a pet project of mine. Alia was actually one of the first that I tried to do, along with Archer several years ago. I actually submitted her to an FCC round with different costs (UUU to cast, RRR to activate) due to misreading the round requirements. The costs posted here are what they were actually supposed to be. If you're wondering what "Dream" is supposed to be, so am I. Haven't quite figured out how to make it work, though it'll probably be something like the Phantom mechanic.

Assassin, Kojiro Sasaki 2BB
Legendary Creature — Human Samurai Assassin (MR)
First strike, deathtouch
Assassin, Kojiro Sasaki has bushido X, where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on it.
Whenever Assassin blocks or becomes blocked by one or more creatures, put a +1/+1 counter on it for each creature blocking or blocked by it.
Whenever Assassin attacks and is unblocked, it gains double strike until end of turn and defending player loses life equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it.
0/1
This guy is a pain in the ass. No, really. I'm still not happy with it, and was trying to avoid Hero of Bladehold-style stack interactions with my cards.

Berserker, Heracles 5RRGG
Legendary Creature — Human Berserker (MR)
If a source you don’t control would cause Berserker, Heracles to leave the battlefield and it has twelve or fewer +1/+1 counters on it, put a +1/+1 counter on it instead.
Berserker must attack each turn, if able.
7/7
Fairly straightforward, but you'll note that I did not give him a totem armor like ability to remove damage. This was intentional. His effect also does not remove him from combat when it happens. Berserker has twelve "lives" granted to him due to Heracles' twelve legendary tasks of repentance. These let him fully recover from any fatal wound stronger than before and immune to its effects. However, it is possible to strike powerfully enough to take multiple lives in a single attack, as the sword Caladbolg did in the source material. I decided to make his final p/t 20/20 when on his last life, since it's a nice round number and can one-shot most players. Of course, he'll have to eat 12 kill/bounce spells, and/or massive numbers of creatures first. Being that he uses +1/+1 counters, he interacts very amusingly with Proliferate and Infect. He cannot die to an Infect creature, no matter how much damage is dumped on him.

Sacrifice an insect: Regenerate Arakune

BEEEEEEEEEEES!!!! Anyone who has played as or against Arakune in BlazBlue knows exactly what I'm talking about. I knew I wanted two things from him: survivability, and swarmability. I also wanted at least one low-cost BB character besides Makoto for potential shenanegins. I already knew that Arakune was going to use Drive for his bees, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to lay out the rest of his abilities. I eventually decided on giving him weakness and regeneration by feeding insects instead of drive, and gave him a modified drive gain so that he can keep himself alive more easily.

Litchi Faye-Ling 2UW
Legendary Creature — Human Wizard (MR)
Whenever Litchi Faye-Ling deals damage, put a drive counter on it.
Unattach an Equipment from Litchi: Litchi gains flying and first strike until end of turn.
Remove a drive counter from Litchi: Attach target Equipment you control to a creature you control.
Remove two drive counters from Litchi: Change the text of target Equipment you control by replacing all instances of “equipped creature” with “this creature” and it becomes a 5/5 Golem artifact creature until end of turn.
2/4
Litchi Faye-Ling is a doctor that lives in the Orient Town district of Kagutsuchi. She makes a living running a clinic and frequently makes trips to help the Ikarugan refugees in Ronin-Gai as well as the Kaka clan of Lower Town. She is a former scientist of Sector Seven, working directly under Kokonoe. There she met and fell in love with Roy Carmine, before he became Arakune. Litchi herself has also been exposed to near lethal levels of the Boundary but has managed to stave off the worst effects thanks to her miniature panda familiar, Lao Jiu, which she wears as a hairtie. She is able to focus her Boundary-granted power through him to manipulate and animate her staff from afar, as well as enhance her speed, agility, and intelligence. Lao Jiu is only a temporary measure against Boundary corruption, and she will eventually succumb in the same way that Arakune did. She obsessively searches for a way to reverse Arakune's transformation before that happens.

Litchi was another pain to design. I wasn't really sure what to have her creature type be. Cleric makes more sense story-wise, but Wizard is more sense ability-wise. Probably just should have made her both. Overall, her abilities are actually fairly boring. She uses drive to manipulate equipment and she can launch herself off of her own equipment. Her third ability represents one of her super attacks, where she animates her staff and it attacks the opponent on its own before returning to her. That ability was a fun one to make.

Noel Vermillion, Eye of the Azure 2WW
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier (MR)
Whenever Noel Vermillion, Eye of the Azure deals damage, put a drive counter on it. Then if there are five or more drive counters on it, transform it.

Mu-12, Godslayer Kusanagi <NULL>
Legendary Artifact Creature — Human Construct (MR)
At the beginning of each upkeep and whenever a source you control deals damage, put a drive counter on Mu-12, Godslayer Kusanagi.
Remove two drive counters from Mu-12: Put a 1/1 Construct artifact creature token named Steins Gunner onto the battlefield. It has flying and “Sacrifice Steins Gunner: Steins Gunner deals 1 damage to target creature or player.”
Remove four drive counters from Mu-12, sacrifice all creatures named Steins Gunner you control: Mu-12 deals X damage to target player and each creature that player controls, where X is the number of creatures sacrificed this way. Transform Mu-12.
1/5
Noel Vermillion, or Murakumo Unit Mu-12, is an existance that should not be. In fact, for a time, she wasn't. Noel is an artificial human created in the city of Ibukido 4 years before the story of BlazBlue takes place. During the Ikaruga Civil War, the Nox Nyctores Take-Mikazuchi fired on Ibukido, destroying it while Noel was still in the final stages of activation, killing her. After approximately 80 or so time loops Noel started surviving the satelite's attack, though her Murakumo armor was destroyed. She was then adopted by the Vermillion Noble family and sent to the NOL Academy where she trained to become an officer, eventually being assigned to be the right hand of Major Jin Kisaragi. By the end of the 725th time loop, Ragna the Bloodedge and Murakumo Unit Nu-13 had finished their bloody battle and fallen into Kagutsuchi's cauldron to restart the loop again. Noel interrupted the merging by rescuing Ragna, killing Nu in the process and breaking the loop. Rachel Alucard then deflected Take-Mikazuchi's attack, preventing the city from being destroyed and allowing time to flow normally again.
A result of breaking the time loop, Noel inherits the Eye of the Azure. A mysterious power that allows her to "observe" reality as she sees fit. Hazama, a.k.a. Yuuki Terumi (another hero of the dark war), uses this power to form a lifelink with Noel. He cannot die as long as she live, and vice-versa. Noel is considered AWOL from the NOL and her childhood friend Tsubaki Yayoi is sent after her to capture or kill her. Noel manages to defeat Tsubaki but is then captured by Terumi, who proceeds to mind rape the hell out of her, causing her to go berzerk and transform herself into a cauldron, tempering herself a new Murakumo armor and becoming Mu-12. With the power of observation granted to her by the Eye, she is also known as the god-slaying sword Kusanagi. As Mu-12, she is completely nihilistic and wants nothing more than to destroy the world that rejected her. It takes a combined effort of Haku-Men, Phase 725 Jin Kisaragi, and the sacrifice of Ragna the Bloodedge's left arm to snap Noel out of Terumi's brainwashing and restore her sanity.
Elaborated more below. Only thing that really bears mentioning is the flavor text is an ugly fix to keep her textbox from overwriting the transformed p/t indicator.
Noel, along with Jin, were the first two BlazBlue characters I turned into cards. I had been wanting to use the Innistrad transformation template for a while, but wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do with it. Originally, I was going to have Mu-12 be a Planeswalker, but the template hasn't been made yet. I designed them primarily for use in a custom general Commander League with some friends of mine. I came up with the Drive counter mechanic because I wanted to encourage combat with them and to accurately represent the characters' "Heat Meter" (super gauge) in Magic terms without using +1/+1 counters as I wanted them to be aggressively costed for their power/toughness stats and to minimize potential abuse with Proliferate. I ended up with two primary Drive triggers; gaining only on damage, and gaining each upkeep and on damage. Gaining only on damage represents the characters normally, where they have to inflict and receive damage in order to charge meter for specials. The each upkeep represents "Unlimited" characters, whose heat meters auto-charge even when not doing anything. Unlimited characters also have significant stat changes and power boosts compared to their normal counterparts, and can be incredibly unfair to fight against. Hence why Haku-Men and Mu-12 are transform only and require some effort to acquire. Terumi's card is always in unlimited mode because he's that kind of troll, and because I wanted at least one "always-on" Unlimited. Of course, even with these guidelines, I was able to create some variance with the drive triggers as you can see with Arakune. All of my first drafts for each character were fairly predictable: Drive gain, 0-2 Keywords, one small Drive ability, and one big Drive ability. As this got boring fairly quickly, I started finding some ways to give variance to the cards, in order to keep them interesting. I made Noel and Jin into Drive-draining combat monsters to give a nice tension between their normal and transformed states. Makoto and Bang (not yet posted) were given Saboteur abilities instead of a second drive ability
Got another FSN-based card for you today, this one definately needs some wording help..
Gilgamesh, King of Heroes 4WBR
Legendary Creature — Human Warrior (MR)
If an Equipment would enter the battlefield under an opponent’s control, it enters the battlefield under your control instead.
When Gilgamesh, King of Heroes enters the battlefield, return all Equipment cards from all graveyards and from exile to the battlefield. Then you gain control of all Equipment. WBR,T: Search target player’s library or graveyard for an Equipment card and put it onto the battlefield. Then that player shuffles his or her library if it was searched this way.
Shuffle an Equipment you control into its owner’s library: Gilgamesh deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is the converted mana cost of the shuffled Equipment.

"Gate of Babylon," the most terrifying words you could hear in the Fate:Stay/Night universe. Gilgamesh of Macedonia, the first King, owner of every legendary treasure to have ever been concieved. He has the ability to open a portal to his personal vault to any weapon he chooses at will for use, though he personally is only skilled with a few of them. Instead, he usually fires them from the portal in a literal rain of armaments, annihilating his opponents. I tried to capture this with his abilities, as he "owns" every treasure known to man. I limited his card form to simply equipment so as to prevent him from completely shutting off most decks, but I'm still looking for that perfect wording. Originally I had "You control all Equipment" as a static ability, but that made for some awkward interactions. This wording isn't much better, but it is a LOT clearer about who gets the Equipment. Thank you, Gather Specimines
I haven't been following this thread, so I'm going to ignore all of the other cards right now and just focus on this latest one.
Have you looked at that render? How could you possibly think that much text is acceptable? Look, we get it. He's an equipment guy. He does equipment, and he does them really well. But you can get all of that across with just one or two abilities. Also, why is he black? Black doesn't really do equipment like red and white do.
When you're making a card to represent something, you don't need the card to be an exact copy, you just need it to get the point across. What about this:
Giglamesh, King of Heroes4RW
Legendary Creature - Human Warrior
When ~ enters the battlefield, you may search your library for any number of equipment cards and exile them, then shuffle your library. RW,T: Put an equipment card exiled with ~ onto the battlefield. ~ deals damage to target creature or player equal to that card's converted mana cost.
5/4
This guy owns a bunch of treasures: Check.
This guy throws his treasures at other people: Check.
Amount of text results in a font size readable by humans: Check.
This hits all the same notes without taking up so much space. Is it perfect? No, but it gets the flavor across and is much easier to understand (and read).

Thanks for your comments.

Ogre Champion is a good idea, but it should probably cost 2RR. There aren't playable Ogres out there.
Magma Runner seems to be a rehash of some Vulshok dude. It's good for its stats, though, even without the equipping thing.
Ogre Champion's cost had me on the fence. I was debating between 2RR, 3RR, or something like 2BR or 1BRR. I couldn't really make up my mind.

Instant
Radiance — Sundering Heavens deals 1 damage to target creature and each creature that shares a color with it.

5/5

6/5
2/2

I've found that the only true way to determine power level is to playtest with cards. I've had cards that I thought were OP turn out to be underwhelming, and cards I thought were UP had to be tuned down. Try them out and make changes as needed.
If it didn't have affinity, I would agree with you. Keep in mind, this can be cast turn 2 with a Basic Forest and Basic Plains, or turn 3 with any three Basics, thanks to the way mono-hybrid works. Also, the card fetches any land, not just Basics.
Err... How would that fix it? Unless the sorcery simply turned the artifact itself into the dragon? The idea is that the artifact is the egg, "hatching" when it dies, and the newborn "inherits" the artifacts capabilities.
Thanks for the feedback, though, I do appreciate it.

Whenever Assassin attacks and is unblocked, it gains double strike until end of turn and defending player loses life equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it.

Sacrifice an insect: Regenerate Arakune

1/5
