I remember from one of MaRo's more recent articles that he said that Alara Reborn set an uncomfortable precedent for what the next entirely multicolored set might contain. Bearing that in mind...might these hold up for it?

The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.

I'm simply positing another cycle in the same vein as the borderposts. The role of the borderposts was to provide a common-level mana-fixer and replacement for lands in an all-color set, so that cop-outs like "~ is red and green" could be avoided.

I would go with discarding a land card and taking out the conditional untapped clause and making it flat "enters tapped", in the same vein as Mox Diamond, and probably adding the 1 to the alternate cost. I know, that's not terribly original, but keep in mind that as worded as of this writing, a hand of two lands, two of these and whatever else is some serious acceleration. You're looking at a potential 5 mana on turn three, in a deck that may not run any green whatsoever. A bit dangerous if the seventh card in your hand is a Planeswalker of some power (hi Elspeth/Garruk!). Even still, with the right balance in your hand, these can still slightly accelerate you early on. Not statistically likely, if my off-the-top math is right, but still feasible.
i would have much rather seen these then the "real" ones.. maybe having to pay 1life in addition to discarding could bring them to "common" level. other then that i see nothing wrong with them...

Honestly, I would have rathered the Borderposts read as such:

^I agree. They're still playable in roughly the same vein as the Rav duel lands though, except common.
I think that they should have published the enemy coloured borderpost cycle in Reborn as well. It would make playing 5-colours that much more rewarding. (even though they shouldn't have made Conflux 5-colour anyway...)

Anyway, I like your designs, but what would the theme of the set be for said cards? A return to Alara?
