Throbbing Foliage1GGR
Creature - Plant Beast (R)
Haste, Trample
As long as there are no counters on Throbbing Foliage, it gets +4/+4.
When Throbbing Foliage deals combat damage to a player, put that many +1/+1 counters on it. If you do, remove a +1/+1 counter from it.

Old version, trample wasn't a part of the "pure" condition.

An interesting idea I was toying with in some custom card creation games. Sure, it's 4 cmc for a 5/5 haste trample, but it dies to a 2/3. Consider giving it +5/+5? (Much more power, still dies to a 2/4 I suppose, but that might be pushing it.)
Next, a twist of a Spiketail.

Stout Spiketail has +2/-2 and flying.
Whenever a player plays a spell, you may counter it unless that player pays 1. If you do, Stout Spiketail loses all abilities.

This is really interesting. I think that it's too good if unblocked, though... It's potentially unkillably large after two hits to the head.

Neat-o. I like that it has an ability that give it flying instead of flying, but still works.
I was kind of worried that it might get too big too fast if it wasn't dealt with, but I'm having a hard time finding a balance that wouldn't compromise its power. Anything smaller and it dies to virtually everything, making it fairly disinteresting. Trample is obviously a huge part of this card, and I really think haste adds a lot to it (obviously, or it wouldn't also be red.)
I want the card to be one of those game swinging bomb rares (or at least, it is in the imaginary set of my mind), but it is true that it becomes unbearably large...
Wait!
Does this help? (I think it might make the card more interesting, too.)

This way, it still has the crazy interaction on the first swing, and still builds up, but becomes entirely stoppable (though, if you can carve through the tokens, or blink the sucker, he's ready to pounce all over again.)

I don't like that static ability.

Flying
Whenever a player plays a spell, you may counter it unless that player pays :1mana:. If you do, CARDNAME loses all abilities and becomes 1/4. (This effect doesn't end at end of turn.)
Humility Oracle wording ftw. This could make for a cool set of one-shot "Humble" guys.
