1) I expect you to follow the spirit of the rules as well as the letter. If you think you've found a loophole that will get you around a rule, and you try to exploit it, the most likely outcome is a modkill for you. Don't be afraid to PM me to ask if something's okay, but be prepared to hear "No."
2) If you believe I have made a mistake, or if you require clarification on anything, feel free to inquire about it either in-thread or via PM. I will respond in the same manner. Don't be surprised, though, if my response is "You already have all the information I am going to provide." Also, questions to the mod in-thread should be prefaced with Mod: in order to get my attention.
3) This game is intended to be played. Please make an effort to follow along and contribute on a regular basis. If you do not believe that you will be able to do so, contact me privately and I will see if I can get you replaced. I won't be happy, but it's better than having an inactive player in the game.
4) Once you are dead, you are dead. Do not post anything further - not even "Damn, I'm dead" or "Go town!" A single "bah" post is allowed.
5) Do not discuss the game with anyone unless your role PM specifically allows you to do so. This includes via e-mail or PM, or in real life.
6) Nights will usually have an action deadline of 72 hours (3 days), and the following day will begin immediately after that. Days will have deadlines set only at the mod’s discretion. If a day reaches a deadline, and a lynch has not occurred, then the day will end in No Lynch. If a night reaches a deadline, all players with possible actions that haven’t sent one will be counted as not taking an action
7) Please try to not quote your role PM, nor paraphrase too closely. If I believe that a player has done either of these in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage, they will be modkilled. If I believe that a player has done either of this with the intention of being modkilled, modkilling will likely be the least of the punishments. If you have any questions about what you can or can't say, please PM the Mod.
8) Players may not use two abilities in the same day or night, unless otherwise stated. The only type of ability exempt from this is a Passive ability (see "PM Structure", below).
9) It is illegal to claim which contracts in the C&T thread are yours or are contracts that you have accepted. Additionally, it is illegal to discuss which contracts you will be putting up.
10) Have fun. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Special Mechanics:
Important: Please do not skip these rules as they are very essential to the mechanics of the game.
Gold:
a) Gold is the currency in this game. Each player has a set amount of gold that they start with (as seen in the sample role PM, Starting Gold: ).
b)Gold may be used to buy items from other players (in the Contracts and Trade Thread) and may be offered as rewards for contracts.
c)You may also transfer gold to a player of your choice once per day/night period by PMing the mod how much gold you wish to give and to whom. This transfer will be done anonymously; all the player that receives the gold will know is that they now have more gold, they will not know who gave it to them.
d)Gold has no inherent value - only that which the players assign to it.
e)
If a contract specifies this sort of task:
Task: Give me 400 gold
You may fulfill the task by PMing the mod that you wish to do so. Even though you have no idea who the player putting up the task is (and so would not normally be able to transfer the gold), the mod will facilitate the anonymous transfer of gold, so that you may fulfill the task.
Items:
a) Items are present in this game.
b) The 'owner' of an item is whoever currently has possession of that item.
c) Items can be passed anonymously to a player of your choice once per day/night period by PMing the mod.
d) Items can be offered as rewards for contracts. Items offered as rewards will have a complete description of the item provided by the mod.
e)Items can be sold in the Contracts and Trades thread by sending the mod a PM with the item you wish to sell as well as for what price. Items will be posted by the mod in the C&T thread in this format:
Item: A complete description of the item provided by the mod.
Price: How much you will sell it for.
f) Keep in mind that, by offering an item up for sale or as a reward, you are giving all player's the knowledge of exactly what the item is.
g) If a contract specifies this sort of task:
Task: Give me the Xel Naga artifact (grants this ability to it's owner: kill target player)
You may fulfill the task by PMing the mod that you wish to do so. Even though you have no idea who the player putting up the task is (and so would not normally be able to transfer the item to that player), the mod will facilitate the anonymous transfer of the item, so that you may fulfill the task.
Contracts:
a) Contracts are requests submitted by players that other players can fulfill in order to receive the reward associated with the contract.
b) A player wishing to submit a contract will PM the mod with these details:
Task: What must be done to complete the contract. Time Limit: The time that the contract must be completed by in order to receive a reward. Condition: Additional constraints that must be met before you can accept the contract. Reward: What is offered for completing the contract as well to who.
1) Task. - Tasks are the specific action that is required to fulfill the contract. If there is a target involved in the contract, this would also go in Tasks. For example:
Task: Kill Skander
Tasks may have multiple actions and multiple targets. For example:
Task: Kill Skander and Kill Syrenz
See below for an extended example of how this would work.
2)Time Limit - The Time Limit is how long you want the contract to be open for. You may choose No Time Limit if you want the contract to stay open until completed. Time Limits may be based on game time or real time. For example:
Time Limit: Until the end of Night 2
Time Limit: 7:00 PM EST, Sep 2.
3)Conditions - Conditions are the requirements that must be met in order to accept the contract and/or the requirements that must be met in order to fulfill the contract.
Conditions may not make any mention of player names (e.g you must be Skander),alignment (e.g. you must be town), role names (e.g. you must be Herp Derp), specific role abilities or actions from those abilities (you must have a killing ability, you must not have killed anyone) , flavor (you must be from the Harknuk mountain range), profession (you must be a limo driver), gold amounts (you must currently have at least 500 gold), or items (you must currently own the Xel'Naga Artifact).
For example, these conditions would be fine:
Condition: You may not unvote until the contract is complete.
4) Rewards - Rewards are what a player offers to the completer of the contract. Rewards may not have a time limit imposed on them; they are immediately transferred at the time of completion.
Rewards may be gold, items, or actions (not votes, or the lack of an action). For example:
Reward: 500 gold
Reward: I will give you the Xel'Naga Artifact (Grants owner the following ability: Kill target player).
Reward: I will kill Skander.
Players will not be able to submit contracts with rewards that they are not able to fulfill. All items offered as rewards will have an exact description of the item provided by the mod.
c) Once the contract is received by the mod, it will be posted in the Contract and Trade Thread. Once the contract is posted, the reward offered will be frozen in the player's possession - meaning that if it was a Gold reward they cannot spend that gold, if it was an item they cannot sell the item, and if it was a limited use action (e.g. one shot kill) they must leave enough uses to fulfill the reward, until the contract expires.
d) Players may accept any contracts in the C&T Thread, if they meet the conditions on the contract. Multiple players may accept the same contract. The first player to complete the contract and complete all the conditions will receive the reward offered for the contract. If the contract-offerer somehow cannot fulfill the reward at the time of completion, the contract-completer will receive nothing. The mod will enforce immediate reward fulfillment. This means that if it was a gold or item reward, the gold or item will be immediately transferred by the mod to the player who completed the contract. If the reward was an action, the mod will enforce completion of that action as soon as possible. If the contract was completed during the day and the player's only has a night ability, the reward will have to wait until night to be fulfilled. Players cannot choose to renege on their offered reward.
e) When the Time Limit on a contract has expired or the contract has become in-completable (for instance the subject of the contract dies), the Contract will be marked as expired in the C&T Thread and will have no further effect.
f) When a player dies any incomplete contracts that they have put up will be marked as expired.
g) When the contract is completed, it will be marked as Completed in the C&T thread and will have no further effect.
h) While certain contracts may have the side-effect of having the mod confirm certain abilities or events, this is not the point of contracts. Contracts that are suspected of solely being posted to abuse mod-confirmation will not be accepted.
The mod reserves the right to reject any contract that can 'break' the game. As such, the mod would appreciate if players did not submit contracts of this sort, so that he does not have to pull out the mod hammer.
i) Some examples of Contracts:
Task: Roleblock Skander
Time Limit: Day 1
Condition: None
Reward: 200 Gold
A very basic contract. The first person to roleblock Skander (meaning, using an ability that would cause a roleblock and have that ability resolve on Skander) before Day 1 ends will receive 200 Gold.
Task: Ensure Skander performs no action.
Time Limit: Until end of Night One.
Condition: None
Reward: 300 Gold
While similar to the first contract example, the wording is slightly different which causes some changes. In the first example, the first player to have a roleblock resolve on Skander would receive the reward whether or not Skander was able to take an action somehow, despite the roleblock resolving on him. In this example, the first player to ENSURE that Skander did not take an action until the end of Night One would receive the reward. That means that if this contract was posted during Day One, and a player daykilled Skander, that player would get the reward as he ensured that Skander would not be taking any actions. Note that it does not make a difference whether Skander would have taken an action or not, so long as you guarantee that he cannot, through an action you perform.
Task: Vote for Skander.
Time Limit: End of today (Day 2).
Conditions: You may not have been voting before this contract went up. You may not unvote while this contract is open.
Reward: 50 Gold
In this contract, a player tries to help encourage a wagon on Skander. However, the player does not want to give away free gold to those who were already voting Skander, or to those would would just vote Skander and then unvote, and so put in the condition to stop this from happening. The players that accept this contract will only receive their reward at the end of the day, as before then they can still unvote and renege on the contract.
Task: Give me 500 gold.
Time Limit: None
Conditions: None
Reward: I will roleblock Skander tonight.
In this contract, the player doesn't want to have to wait until somebody specifically requests a roleblock but instead wants everyone to know that he's willing to roleblock Skander - for a price. Keep in mind that by posting a contract such as this, you will be revealing role information to the rest of the players. Even though nobody will know who put up this contract, the players will know that there is a player with at least one roleblock available.
Task: Give me the Xel'Naga artifact (grants owner the following ability: kill target player)
Time Limit: 9:00 AM EST Sep 12
Conditions: None
Reward: 350 gold
Let's say the Xel'Naga artifact had been posted for sale in the C&T thread, but before this player could get to it, it was bought up by somebody else. This player thinks that the artifact is much more useful in his hands and so puts up this contract offering to buy it off whoever has it, within a short time limit. Note that if the current owner of the artifact thinks that the price is too low, s/he can always post it for sale in the C&T thread for a higher price.
j) Some examples of contracts that would be unacceptable:
Task: Post your night action results in the thread.
Time Limit: None
Conditions: None
Reward: None
This contract would be rejected as it is being used only to exploit mod confirmation. If a player posted in the thread his night action results, the mod would be forced to either mark the contract as Complete, signifying that the player is telling the truth, or to leave the contract as is, signifying that the player had lied about his night action results and therefore not completed the contract.
This is not what contracts are about.
Task: Kill Skander if you are Syrenz.
Time Limit: None
Condition: None
Reward: 200 gold
This contract attempts to mask a condition as part of the task and would therefore be rejected. Were it properly formatted as a task with a condition it would also be rejected as the condition is referencing a player name.
Task: Track Skander
Time Limit: End of Night 2
Condition: None
Reward: I will not kill Syrenz.
Not a valid reward. Rewards may be gold, items, or actions; the lack of an action is not a reward.
k) Please note that contracts are not retractable.
l) Contracts must be accepted prior to fulfilling the task of a contract. Even if you fulfill a contract, but did not accept it before fulfilling it, you will not receive the reward associated with it.
m) Hammering a player does not count as killing in relation to contracts.
n) I feel the need to repeat this rule for emphasis.
While certain contracts may have the side-effect of having the mod confirm certain abilities or events, this is not the point of contracts. Contracts that are suspected of solely being posted to abuse mod-confirmation will not be accepted.
The mod reserves the right to reject any contract that can 'break' the game. As such, the mod would appreciate if players did not submit contracts of this sort, so that he does not have to pull out the mod hammer.
Additional Rules
If a player is lynched their items and gold go into a discard pile.
If a player is killed their killer gets all their items and gold.
One-shot items that have been used up and destroyed items will not go into the discard pile.
Professions have no inherent abilities associated with them.
Once lynched, you may not pass items/gold or use abilities, even during twilight.

Ogreland. A land of great wealth and beauty. A land where lush forests and sprawling cities collide. A land of clever, thoughtful and devious ogres.
Hundreds of years ago, this land of ogres had been formed. After living a nomadic life for hundreds of years before in a distant land and under constant attack from the vile humans, a great ogre chieftain had led his clan to this land in the hopes of finding safe haven.
The first years were hard ones. All manner of foul beast and creature lived in this land and they were unwelcoming of these new trespassers.
The ogres fought their new foes with force and after many months and casualties, finally succeeded in driving the creatures off.
Settling down in this new land, the ogres, led by the great chieftain, started a new life. A more cultured and civilized life was lead, while the ogres still kept their fighting skills sharp.
Seeing the life that these ogres had created for themselves, clans from all over shed their nomadic life and soon came down to join them in this new land.
And so Ogreland was born.
But with the arrival of the other clans, Ogreland soon again became a land of war and strife.
In this new world, each clan wanted more land than the other one and so the clans would fight one another for each others land.
The wars between the clans seemed endless, continuing on for hundreds of years. Until finally, thirty years ago, a great ogre Chieftain by the name of Karr'gan, sought to unite the clans and bring an end to these constant battles.
Karr'gan was a highly charismatic ogre of great proportions as well as one of the most intelligent ogres in the land (after all he knew how to count up to 15!) . Everywhere he went, ogres succumbed to his charm. And so Chieftain Karr'gan moved to each clan and negotiated with each chieftain, convincing them of the destructive nature of their constant quarrels and of the goodness of a peaceful life, with no more than the occasional pillaging villages and killing all the inhabitants. After convincing one chieftain, he would move on to the next, repeating his same story.
The first clans, joined Karr'gan simply because he was so convincing (they figured any ogre who knew words such as "peace", "treaty", and "unify" was a very wise ogre indeed). But after the first clans joined Karr'gan, many of the other clans simply agreed to Karr'gans terms, because opposing him meant opposing a force many times larger than your own. And while many ogres still could not count, they knew the difference between many ogres and more ogres.
And so Chieftain Karr'gan united the clans.
But now, life in Ogreland is about to become complicated once more...
------------------------------------
14th Day of Skullwrenching
Kragnan Province
Under a sky full of sparkling stars that seemed all the brighter when contrasted against their dark canvass, a lone ogre stood upon a small mountain. At 16 feet tall and nearly half that across, the ogre was gargantuan, even by his kind’s massive proportions. He pulled his wolf pelts tight against his body, as though to brace himself against a chill, although the night was far from cold. Abruptly, his face was scarred with a craggy grin that did little to improve his hideous features.
“I figured you would come.”
With an almost imperceptible motion, another ogre appeared beside him. Though small compared to his companion, the newcomer was no runt; a fact that made his stealthy movements all the more remarkable. The first ogre turned to face the newcomer, staring into those pure-black eyes that were devoid of emotion and that marked him as a spiritualist.
“Doesn’t Chieftain Karr’gan need you down there?”
The spiritualist glanced briefly downwards, toward the village that lay nestled in the rocky grasp of the base of the mountain. Though it was late at night, there were braziers lit and hundreds of ogres were about, singing, dancing and feasting.
“It’s hish thrtieth annivershary of uniting da clans. I thnk he hash more important people to talk to than me,” snorted the spiritualist.
The massive ogre grimaced as his ears were once again forced to endure the horrible accent of those ogres who couldn’t take the time to culture their tongue.
“Beshides,” continued the spiritualist. “There’sh shomething wrong tonight. I can feel it in my bone’sh. And look at da moon.”
As if moving of their own volition, the huge ogre felt his eyes moving upward to stare at the massive moon overhead. He bared his rotted, yellow teeth in a mixture of anger and fear as he noticed the faint tinge of red in the moon’s coloring. A Blood Moon. An ominous omen indeed.
Suddenly, the spiritualist staggered backwards, clutching at his heart."Da...ugh...hrg... Chieftain hash been... killed."
Shouts and cries were soon heard from the village confirming the spiritualist's statement.
The spiritualist and his companion moved quickly towards the source of the tumult.
"We must seal off the village," the ogre spoke "No one must leave until the killers have been found."
The spiritualist spoke solemnly "We can'ot take part in dis, you know dat."
"Yes, I know. It will be up to the village to find the ones responsible for this heinous act. But we will lend whatever aid we can that is within our boundaries. Now let's get down there and seal off the village."
Approaching the village, it was utter chaos. Ogres were running everywhere and fighting each other.
By the time the village began to calm down, only 22 ogres were left standing.
The spiritualist spoke to his companion "The ones reshponshible are in dish group o' ogres."
"Well, it will be up to them to figure out who did this. As you said, this does not concern us."
All Role PMs have been sent out. The game will start once everyone has confirmed. Players with communication abilities may communicate until the game starts.

I think we should thank Syrenz for putting together such a wonderful game by posting our top three lists of things we can use to break the contracts/trades thread, and then submitting the good ideas to Syrenz to see what he says about them.

Game-breaking idea #1
I propose someone put up the following contracts (repeat for every player):
Task: Use an investigation-type ability on Cyan
Time limit: No time limit
Conditions: You cannot have accepted any other contract this game day.
Reward: 1 gold
Task: Use an investigation-type ability on Cyan
Time limit: No time limit
Conditions: You cannot have accepted any other contract this game day.
Reward: 2 gold
Claim the 1 gold reward if the player is town. Claim the 2 gold reward if the player is scum.
Task: Use an investigation-type ability on Cyan
Time limit: No time limit
Conditions: You cannot have accepted any other contract this game day.
Reward: 1 gold
Task: Use an investigation-type ability on Cyan
Time limit: No time limit
Conditions: You cannot have accepted any other contract this game day.
Reward: 2 gold
Claim the 1 gold reward if the player is town. Claim the 2 gold reward if the player is scum.
1) Yes, if it worked, that would likely be game-breaking/abuse, so I'd be surprised if something like that was accepted.
2) Rewards are automatically transferred...you don't have to specifically "claim" one to get it. So the player would investigate Cyan and get 3 gold. Automatically.
I don't know if nom is town or scum. But I'd like to point out this type of behavior is his standard modus operandi.
Court Mafia: Day 1, hatch plan to KILL EVERYONE ELSE IN A SINGLE NIGHT, when the plan only allows him to hit 11 random players, ATTEMPTS TO FIRE ANYHOW (Roleblocked).
In other words....Nom is an impulsive player who doesn't think about planning long-term or listening to others. I wouldn't be surprised if he was town. At all.
There may be a flaw with this set-up if Gold really has no inherrent value. Like, why should I care about accumulating it? Well, (you say) you can buy stuff! But who's going to sell valuable items for something that does nothing?
Like, maybe some people need Gold for "stuff". And more Gold let's them do more "stuff." So maybe those people wojuld be motivated to accumulate it. I guess I am not one of those people though, so, meh.

Some players might have abilities or alt-win conditions that trigger on having certain amounts of gold. It might not do anything on its own, but there might be roles or contracts that make it important. It's flavor, we should wait and see what it does.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
What happens if Syrenz has to have a 2 week gap now? Who is gonna be his back up mod?
The council would pick someone to mod in his place and I or the council would ask Hannes or another admin to retrieve the setup and forward it to them. Normally I'd do it myself, but I'm in the game and that'd be the definition of brokenness.

Care to try again?
You have to accept a contract before you can be given a reward. So you accept the correct one. Tada.
You have to accept a contract before you can be given a reward. So you accept the correct one. Tada.
Confirmed from Syrenz: You have to officially accept contracts before you complete them, so accepting both ahead of time would award you both rewards simultaneously (no info conveyed). In order to only get one, you would have to only accept one before completing the task...which would not give you the option of changing once the task was completed.
k) Contracts must be accepted prior to fulfilling the task of a contract. Even if you fulfill a contract, but did not accept it before fulfilling it, you will not receive the reward associated with it.

After Syrenz posted the idea in the PCQ thread, my brother and I got into an argument about this.
As long as at least a few people see value in it, the gold will be worth something. I guess if everyone in the game decided to ignore it, it would be worthless, but I think that most of us signed up because we like the idea (and therefore wouldn't ignore it). Also, as Annorax said, some people may have some sort of win condition that requires gold, or an ability that uses gold.
Damn Magic and her "I post walls of text, even thought this is my first game as scum."
Where did she go off to, anyway? She was great, anybody know why she left? Oh, and by the way, posting wall of texts wasn't just too come off as town; she gave wall of texts in her discussion PMs too.
There's no rule against posting rejected contracts:
Task: Say that you're scum and ask to be lynched.
Time limit: End of day 1
Conditions: None
Reward: 4 gold
Task: Give me a ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
Time limit: 30 minutes
Conditions: To completion
Reward: 5 gold
Task: Go back in time with me. This is not a joke.
Time limit: End of Day 1.
Conditions: Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed.
Reward: 10 gold. You'll get paid after we get back.
Also, please don't spam the Contracts/Trading thread, it just makes it harder to read. I'm having noghtmares about looking at 1000+ Contracts before the game is over.

I don't know, I've always wanted to play with her again. I'm guessing that she just had real life stuff to tend to and didn't really have time to play any more games.

Lair of the Cat (Mafia Stats)
General Rules:
(Stolen and modified from RobRoy)
Gold:
b)Gold may be used to buy items from other players (in the Contracts and Trade Thread) and may be offered as rewards for contracts.
c)You may also transfer gold to a player of your choice once per day/night period by PMing the mod how much gold you wish to give and to whom.
Even though you have no idea who the player putting up the task is (and so would not normally be able to transfer the gold), the mod will facilitate the anonymous transfer of gold, so that you may fulfill the task.
b) The 'owner' of an item is whoever currently has possession of that item.
c) Items can be passed anonymously to a player of your choice once per day/night period by PMing the mod.
d) Items can be offered as rewards for contracts.
Contracts:
b) A player wishing to submit a contract will PM the mod with these details:
Sample Town Role PM:
Lair of the Cat (Mafia Stats)
"Sho it begins."

Now we just need to find a way to steal from or kill the sample role pm, and we get a dayvig
Game-breaking idea #1
I propose someone put up the following contracts (repeat for every player):
Task: Use an investigation-type ability on Cyan
Time limit: No time limit
Conditions: You cannot have accepted any other contract this game day.
Reward: 1 gold
Task: Use an investigation-type ability on Cyan
Time limit: No time limit
Conditions: You cannot have accepted any other contract this game day.
Reward: 2 gold
Claim the 1 gold reward if the player is town. Claim the 2 gold reward if the player is scum.
1) Yes, if it worked, that would likely be game-breaking/abuse, so I'd be surprised if something like that was accepted.
2) Rewards are automatically transferred...you don't have to specifically "claim" one to get it. So the player would investigate Cyan and get 3 gold. Automatically.
Care to try again?
For not getting the rules right.
Yes, yes, I do.
Vote Azrael
He knows why.

The council would pick someone to mod in his place and I or the council would ask Hannes or another admin to retrieve the setup and forward it to them. Normally I'd do it myself, but I'm in the game and that'd be the definition of brokenness.

Vote:Atlseal
You have to accept a contract before you can be given a reward. So you accept the correct one. Tada.
Gar har har! You've made this ogre feel better. I've decided not to use your bones to decorate my cave. GAR!
GAR HAR HAR This ogre has some crazy ideas GAR!
(Yes, I've decided to play the game in character )
Confirmed from Syrenz: You have to officially accept contracts before you complete them, so accepting both ahead of time would award you both rewards simultaneously (no info conveyed). In order to only get one, you would have to only accept one before completing the task...which would not give you the option of changing once the task was completed.
Tadoh.
Thanks for the laugh.
Task: Say that you're scum and ask to be lynched.
Time limit: End of day 1
Conditions: None
Reward: 4 gold
Task: Give me a ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
Time limit: 30 minutes
Conditions: To completion
Reward: 5 gold
Task: Go back in time with me. This is not a joke.
Time limit: End of Day 1.
Conditions: Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed.
Reward: 10 gold. You'll get paid after we get back.
Now, Unvote, Vote Toastboy cause I'm hungry. And he said he'd bring the doughnuts to the RVS. I love doughnuts.
