This game is blind. You knew that when you signed up. Therefore, do not spoil the game by revealing your identity or hinting in any way. This includes private communications. If people figure out who you are by your playstyle so be it, but comments like "I always play this way" are not welcome. Doing so may result in you being replaced or modkilled without warning. Do not reveal your identity after death; I will reveal identities at the end of the game.
Do not post in this thread or contact players outside this thread (mafia, masons, etc.) with any account except the one provided you by me. This includes your normal account and any other gimmicks you may have. Doing so may result in you being replaced or modkilled without warning.
Do not use the account I have provided you for anything other than playing this game. If you use this account to break the forum rules I will rain holy hell down on you. If you wish to change anything about the account, i.e., avatar, signature, location, password, etc., you must clear it with me first.
General anti-lurking rules apply (see Golden Rules), but further: if ever I suspect lurking/replacing is being used as a survival tactic, you will be modkilled.
Role playing is not required in this game but I encourage you to have fun with it. How often are you able to play a character without having to worry about revealing your role name? Have fun with it! Pepper your posts with Shakespearean dialect, rhyme, quotes from Hamlet, etc. Use Victorian-era insults (within reason). Say things your character might say. Just be wary of the Insane Asylum trap of "all role play, no content".
The Town win condition is "Eliminate the scum".
Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a lynch threshold has been reached nothing can undo it. You may continue to post until night.
You may Vote: No Lynch
If a deadline is reached with no majority, the day will end without a lynch. Deadlines will be set at moderator discretion.
Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing. A simple “Bah” post containing no relevant information is acceptable.
If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. If I don’t receive your choice, nothing will happen. If you wish to not use a night action, please tell me so; don’t just let the deadline expire. I like nights to be as short as possible.
(i.e., the things that apply to every game of mafia.)
Do not discuss this game outside the thread with anyone. Not your friends, not your mother, not another forum member who isn’t playing, not a dead player, not a living player while you’re dead. No one. The only exceptions are me and whatever is instructed in your role PM. This applies to any game in progress; don’t talk about other running games in this one, even if you aren’t playing in that one.
Do not quote any PMs from me, nor paraphrase too closely, lest I smite you.
Do not edit or delete your posts, lest I smite you.
Obey the Forum Rules. This especially includes flaming. Play nice, kids. The only exception being you may double post if necessary, but please make an effort to respond to things in one post. Use the multiquote button or copy/paste.
Do not lurk, lest I smite you. You must maintain a reasonable level of active participation in the game. We understand that life gets in the way of mafia. However, please respect the other players and I by keeping us informed. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 72-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread or PM the mod. If you feel unable to continue to play the game at the commitment level expected, request to be replaced. Do not simply vanish, unless under life-threatening peril.
Make your votes in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it may not be counted. Please be attentive and unvote (in bold), if necessary, before casting a new vote. If you do not unvote first, your new vote may not be counted.
Ask the moderator, me, if you are unsure about anything. If you post a request of the moderator in the thread, please bold it.
Have fun! Otherwise, why play?
The game is afoot! ...Wait, that's not Shakespeare.
Now that I'm done with that, I will be not voting unless we're damn sure we want someone lynched. Guildenstern knows why. God forbid we have a repeat of Song of Fire and Ice mafia.

Greetings, subjects, it is I, your King! Bow down before me.
Ahem, sorry. I unfortunately must agree with Guildenstern; I believe we should minimize roleplaying as I get a headache reading too much Elizabethan English. I will still try to roleplay, though.
Role playing is anti-town and only serves to detract from conversation. So minimize it please, eliminate it even.
Making a bold statement is one thing, making a bold opinion isn't. Just because you believe it so, doesn't make it so.
I'd like to hear more explanation as to why you've presented this opinion. How does it detract? What conversation was there to detract from? Why so worried about it at 10 posts into the game? What will you do if someone continues to roleplay?
And so that it's crystal clear, no one besides Guildenstern should answer these questions. Capishe?
PPE: @KingClaud: so you agree that roleplaying should be stopped, but you'll still attempt to do it? And the reason you give that it should be stopped is only self-serving and has no connection to Guildenstern's reason. Nice barn there.

Pray tell.
I'm pretty sure it's the opposite of a barn? Barning is when you just take someone's reasoning, posts, and essentially say "Ah yup, I agree with your splendid dissertation!" Barning is when you use the SAME reasons. My wife Gertrude is saying that I'm barning someone with different reasons. Madness!

Role playing just adds needless fluff to posts and obscures the actual text people are trying to post.
I'm pre-empting any time wasted and issues created by role playing. There's no reason to wait until it becomes a problem to do so.
If someone refuses to stop roleplaying, it will be dealt with the same way as other going against the town majority on some issue like that is in other games.
That said, I agree with you regarding King. Hypocrisy, OMGUS vote.

Is his hypocrisy on flavor indicative of a scum mindset?
What flavors the OMGUS vote the wrong way?
@King Claudius- Perhaps thy wife hails from Sparta?
Methinks replacing 'I think' with 'methinks', and else of such nature, is little burden on the comprehension. But I may be of an uncommon mind on this.
And yet, the creativity demanded is slight indeed. What is asked is not an effort of the higher functions, but of rote translation. 'Tis style, not substance.
Hypocrisy in general is a sign of trying to frame other's actions as scummy and your own same ones as not.
Is that what's happening here?

Blind adhesion to general rules sets off alarm bells.

You are using his statement with your own self-serving reasoning. You're barning the statement, but trying to set yourself apart from him with reasons that are different. While it's not a "standard" barn, I felt that that was the closest way to describe it.
And as a matter of point, I didn't have any real issue with Guildenstern's statement, beyond what appears that he's speaking for the whole town. I do have issues with KingC appearing to agree with Guilden but giving himself an out.
Personally I just don't think I'll be very good at speaking Shakespeare, I've had enough troubles reading him in the past. vote: Gertrude, for marrying her brother in-law. I disapprove.

First two points, ok, understood. third point, I still don't like the fact that you're speaking as if the town should blindly agree with you. There's only been two people who have spoken up about not liking the roleplaying. That certainly isn't close enough to be thinking that the town would be willing to lynch over it. It's just a hasty attitude to have at this point, imo.
If someone refuses to stop roleplaying, it will be dealt with the same way as other going against the town majority on some issue like that is in other games.
If the majority of the town wants to roleplay, are we allowed to lynch those who refuse? Since I doubt your answer is going to be "yes" to that, why is it different the other way around?
And give me one pro-town reason for the OMGUS there. Please.
Something not having any pro-town benefits does not always mean it is always scum doing it. Town OMGUS vote frequently enough to make it an unreliable tell at best.
Because it fills the thread up with useless clutter, makes conversation harder to comprehend, and generally refocuses attention to a (IMHO) worthless task.
How is role playing pro-town, or not anti-town? If you can answer that sufficiently, I will go along with a majority decision to role play.

How is role playing pro-town, or not anti-town? If you can answer that sufficiently, I will go along with a majority decision to role play.
Roleplaying if done well, is not in any way anti-town. Especially in this type of game where we know everyone's rolename. It should not be hard to decipher role players' posts, and if you can't take the extra effort that doesn't make it scummy.
More importantly, role playing for some makes their experience more fun. And I'm all for people having fun. Are you anti-fun? Because people are are anti-fun are meanies. No one likes meanies.
I wouldn't say its pro-town nor even the majority decision. I just think you're a killjoy. And by obvious logical extension, killjoy's are scum.
Let me roleplay my 8 lines.
More seriously, I figure role playing is rather neutral. To those that want to, and if they can stand making comprehensible posts while roleplaying in Elizabethan English, can do so without worrying about giving away their character. To be pro-town, roleplaying would have to aid catching scum, which it doesn't, but to be anti-town, it has to benefit the scum, which I don't really see it doing either.
You are also assuming people are good at role playing to the point it doesn't interfere, and that at some point the good players don't get wrapped up in playing their character role, not their mafia game role.
Roleplaying is not required in this game, and so it can theoretically can be ended at any time. I assume players recognize when their role playing is for fun and constructive and when it starts interfering with playing the game.
I also assume, just based on posts so far, that ~75% of the players are not roleplaying anyways. Even if the remaining three decide to, it is unlikely to have a significant effect either way.
Role playing just adds needless fluff to posts and obscures the actual text people are trying to post.

And though your body be aged, your mind be devilishly sharp, Polonius;
A keen blade that should not have missed good Rozencratz's unvote.
There were only ever two votes;
No springboard for suspicion is this, and your overardent aggression
While the sun is yet mere hours over the horizon
Does you no credit.
To whit; Unvote Hamlet
Vote Polonius
The game is truly afoot.
And good Horatio, why art thou so concerned about not transgressing?
Guildenstern, I believe you are reaching my good man! Not only do I not find anything with what the kind said as scummy, but I think that it is clear that not everyone is going to be roleplaying overly frequently. To me it appears as though you are trying a bit to hard to get somebody quickly.

Hmm, I apparently missed the line Ophelia quoted about caring about the 3rd random vote. I don't see why that isn't safe, I've even see people get random voted to L-2 and its completely irrelevant. Care to explain why its such a big deal Polonius?

You don't see the problem with King's statement? He attaches himself to Guildenstern's statement, but uses a personal reason rather than in game reason to say why he thinks it's bad. By doing this he's making it look like he's going along with statement but also giving himself an out if needed. Then, he states he'll still do it? There's no reason to be inconsistant here, unless he has an ulterior motive.
Also, I'm finding it suspicious that King has suddenly stopped posting and allowing others to defend him. It's not quite vote worthy, but I definately have King at the top of my scum list right now.
At this point, I think it's a good thing if some people are roleplaying.
I dost not care if people doist want to role-playest. Methinks it means very little and most people will stoppeth doing it naturally the fartherest we get along.
