Oh, what's that? How, you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked. If your computer cannot see into these spoilers, I will gladly PM you the rules. Or look here. In fact, look there anyway.
This is stolen from Newb Mafia 7.
Quote from SorryGuy »
In a game of mafia, the 2 basic roles are Townie and Mafioso. In this game, the town will be made up of those trying to figure out who killed everyone and stop them from killing again. For the town to win, they must kill all members of the mafia. Most townies have only one tool: the lynch.
-While the game is in "Day" mode, any player may post in the thread. They may also FOS or Vote.
-FOS stands for Finger of Suspision. It has no direct bearing on the game, but it is a nice way to let everyone know who you are suspicious of.
-When any one player has reached a number of votes equal to the majority of the players in the game, that player will be lynched and the game will go into night.
-You may only be voting for 1 player at a time. If you want to change your vote, you must type Unvote before doing so.
-Votes, Unvotes, and FOSes should be bolded. (ex. VOTE: Puzzle or FOS: CropCircles)
There are 2 roles that are very common in mafia games that will be used in this game as well. The Cop and the Doctor, which are both town roles.
-During the night, the Cop may send me the name of 1 player he would like to investigate. I will then reveal to the Cop whether that player is a mafioso or a townie.
-The Doc sends me the name of a player that he would like to protect. That player will be immune to nightkills for that night. (Note: The doc may not protect himself)
The mafia, or those who killed everyone, will win when they exceed or equal the town in number(at which point, they control the lynch). They may also post during the day and use both Votes and FOSes. However, they have another tool: the ability to nightkill.
-While the game is in night, the mafia may communicate with each other.
-Then, one of them will send me the name of 1 player to be killed.
-Once I have received the mafia's Night Choice, as well as the choice of any other player with a Night Ability, I will post a morning scene, and Day will start.
There may or may not be other roles in this game. For reference, here are a few other possible roles:
-Vigilante: The Vigilante is a killer on the Town side who can either choose to kill every night, or choose to kill a certain number of times during the game, depending on the variation.
-Back-up Doc: Assumes the Doctor's abilities after the Doctor dies.
-Back-up Cop: Assumes the Cop's abilities after the Cop dies.
-Role blocker: Chooses one player per night to block from performing his or her Night Choice.
-Mason: The Masons are a group on the Town's side who know each other to be townies and can talk to each other at Night.

2. Do not quote my PM's. Breaking this rule results in an instant modkill.
3. Do not speak about this game outside this thread unless it is night and your role intends you to do so.
4. Please do not edit or delete your posts no matter how stupid a mistake you made.
5. Once you’re dead, you’re dead, so stop posting. You may have one 'goodbye post', but if it contains any strategy or information, your side instantly loses.
6. If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
7. Executions will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.
8. If you are requesting a mod prod or vote count, bold your request so that I can see it more clearly.
9. I want this game to keep moving so I expect everyone to post at least once every two days and if you don't you will receive a prod on the third day. If you still haven't posted I will take further action. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread or PM me.
10. Remember this is a game. Games are about having fun. Do your best to do so.
11. Lastly and most importantly. Respect me and the rest of the players. I'd rather not have to modkill any players. That's no fun for any of us.
You will read this or perish in fire:
If you can't make it to the computer for anything longer than a 2-day stretch, just post it in the thread. I don't have any problems with people studying for finals, just so long as you let the other players know. However, if it is anything longer than 5-7 days, you should consider letting go and requesting a replacement. I didn't want to leave DA or RotK mafia, but I was to be gone for 10 days, and I knew how little fun an inactive game is. Please, everyone, post frequently. (Unless it is spam/trolling. In that case, go away.)
Alive and Kicking (Bolded have not confirmed with me.)

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a go! Everyone has confirmed, nobody sent me a night action, and people were exceptionally polite. It looks like everyone read the thread.
Just one last reminder that even though this is a newb game, and that this is the beginning, editing posts will result in instant and merciless modkill. So will invisitext (white-colored text.)
As for quoting PMs, the townie win condition is:
"All the non-town players are dead."
Everything else about a PM was not copy-pasted. Nonetheless, quoting PMs will garner a replacement or a modkill.
And remember: modkills are not fun. While I would dearly like to go mad with power, I would like more to have as many puppets dancing for me as I can.
You all gather round the sugar bowl. There are whispers of dissent...murmers of trechery. And so, you breakfast foodstuffs, kings among men, have deemed it necessary to vote this to the very end. And so it begins....
I'm not sure if it's any better...but Nymphe is actually my character in a D&D campaign...She's got 21 Cha and a wolf named Wolfe...and a "spiked chain" (bow-chika-wow-wow)

This could only have been the work on of Aisling Leprechaun. I'm not sure what Aisling means, but it sounds like your sick, and only someone who's sick could have done that to Miss Bread.
Also, what's this "funk" thinger? Is it just a weaker FoS? Just wondering, because I hadn't seen it anywhere before, and there's no reference of it anywhere in FadeBlue's intro, or in the mafiascum website. Atleast none that I could find. Regarding the leperachaun, he cant be the lucky charms guy, he just cant be.
Thats unfair, the only way we'd know his role is if he was lynched, and i dont wanna be the guy responcible for lynching the lucky charms lepereachaun.

Hmm.. I can't see who's viewing the thread... The lurkers are lurking, the posters are posting, and all I can do is sit and watch... Unvote Vote ZeDorkSlipeur for not paying close enough attention for why we wanted to know what Aisling means.
Also, ailing is for "What ails you, laddy?" meaning "What's wrong?"
And aren't the Irish lands "Isles" like "Island"?
I know I'm as much to blame as everyone else but maybe we should stop being as casual with our joking around. It would really, really, piss me off if someone later down the line defended themselves by saying "I was only funnin' lads, calm down". Not that it seems likely that we'll fall for it in the lategame, but you just know it'll come up.
Unvote Vote Aisling Leprechaun. I know it's his second, but it's not a bandwagon, as soon as he posts something I'll unvote, but he hasn't posted yet.
@ Rahl, *looks at above vote* Guess I better prepare myself for lynching by every pre-double figures infant in the country.
Unvote, Vote Pod for seemingly being overly defensive and not making any sense at the same time.
I'm not really sure what's going on...but from my experience playing RL mafia, the first lynch is pretty much random. So...anyone up for a guessing game?

Sorry bout not posting earlier. I have decent reasons.
All of a sudden, a spike juts itself out of the kitchen table, like the ground was stabbing the air. half a centimeter from Pod's foot. Everyone stares rather astonishedly at this stalagmite that has appeared. Pod is shocked, and then begins to move away slowly, when suddenly a rolling pin rolls at him. Everyone else dives out of the way, and Pod jumps over is, barely making it. The rolling pin hits the salt shaker, which spills all over and around Pod. He trips and falls on his face. Staring at the sky, he becomes rigid with terror as a butcher's knife seemingly falls out of the sky and lands an inch from his ear. He is still alive, but it would appear that the very table itself is conspiring against him lest he do anything against the forum rules. Even if he means to help, it is still against the forum rules.
No invisitext. Ever. Pod may still funk, but is not allowed to be funky for the rest of the day.
Edit: Eerily, Pod gets up. He staggers around in circles, taking in what just happened. Silent Prophet, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, steps forward to comfort him. En route, however, he slips on the ice. He's picked up a velocity, however, and nearly rolls of the edge of the table if not for Pod snapping out of his stupor and catching Silent Prophet's hand as he falls over the cliff. After a tense couple of seconds, Pod pulls Silent Prophet up onto safe ground, and the both sit there, breathless, tired, and looking rather foolish.
Silent Prophet also may not be funky for the rest of the day, but he may still funk. Invisitext is absolutely unacceptable. The next person to use it will be replaced.
The word Ailing means to be ill. As one sounds Gaelic, I assume that they are unrelated.
@Cyan, If you're going to vote for me, I would at least prefer it if you were a bit more specific about why you are doing it. If you're refering to the fact that I may have not adaqutely stated why I voted for AL then say so please. The reason I voted for AL was because he has been on today and not posted. It was a pressure vote, nothing more. Possibly an ill advised or pointless pressure vote, but thats what it was.
It's not a serious vote, just giving you a hard time. Though generally, in Mafia, acting overly defensive(being paranoid about people joking etc) just makes it look like you have something to hide.
ugh...I don't really think any of the stuff we're basing our conclusions on is worth basing a conclusion on...so I'm just gonna abstain from voting. However, from my RL experience, it's been the quiet ones who try to fly under the radar that most likely have something to hide. For that reason FOS: Mosschop for giving one random vote and not saying anything since.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but could Peregrine Falcon be implying something here? The fact that Pod specifically saves Aisling Leprechaun could mean he is good (ie town) or that the two are partners in crime (mafia). Then again, Pod did vote for Aisling Leprechaun, so I really have no idea.

The entire way that you state that is as if you have information that we do not. If you have information about what Funk is about, tell it to the town so we can all know.
You stating that you want inthread information, suggests you have it out of thread.

First, no I don't have any out of thread information. If I did, I wouldn't be asking questions about it. And if I wanted out of thread info, I would just PM the mod. And lastly, is there any reason NOT to have the mod just post one, simple, concise explanation of what the heck it is for all of us to read at once?
And that crazyness about being thrown in the trash for being too funky? A play on words, atleast to my knowledge. When food in the fridge (or cupboards, or anywhere else) starts going bad, it's a phrase of speech to say that it is "funky". Or, atleast on my side of Canada.
I guess the way I should have worded it is "Something negative happening without us knowing what the results would be".
Hope that clears up any confusion I may have caused.
I guess that is a satisfactory responce for now. It is still kinda odd... you must learn to watch your words carefully. Mafia could turn what you said agianst you very very badly if done right.

Funk was created at a whim to get a laugh out of you. When Pod funked Mosschop, I decided to make it an in-game ability.
Funk has no negative consequences. If the town reaches a majority vote on someone funky, then I might have a little flavor scene about them busting a move and getting clean, shiny, and all up in it yo.
Or maybe I'll randomize their vote because I hate hippies.
Or maybe I'll double their vote because I love disco.
I really haven't decided yet. I have decided that funk has nothing to do with when the day ends, so just keep playing. Consider it like a huggle with Saturday Night Fever.
Rest assured, funk is most likely innocuous. (That means harmless.)
Now AntiFunking someone, that is kind of rude. Antifunking someone is a -1/-1 to a Funky +1/+1 bad boy.
And so, you breakfast foodstuffs, kings among men, have deemed it necessary to vote this to the very end.
So all we know is that we are all something to do with breakfast... Count Chocula certainly fits that criteria.
But do we really want to be discussing this? What does the town gain, and what does the mafia gain? IMHO, the town gains people talking back and forth to see who is scummy, and the mafia get names to false-claim as. While there is the possibility of a townie having the same name, and thus, us being able to 1-for-1 the mafia (go town!), there is most certainly enough possible role-names for us to have to go above and beyond what is used.
And by bringing up possible names now, and clearing them before we even get started seems like not very good news for the town. Heck, we might even wind up finding someone as mafia without basis, because they name themselves as something we found to be a bad name, but lying would only make it worse. Count Chocula may inspire thoughts of vampires and killing to some, but there's also the count from sesame street who, I'm sure most would agree, is not evil.
Do we have any sort of story to go on as to why he would be evil?
And, again, are we even sure that we want to know?
What kind of rolename do you expect to see only on a vanilla townie/power role/scum ?
From the Breakfast article, I think the most likely foods we will encounter are the following: (Note: As Peregrine Falcon lives in the US I'm assuming we will stick to an American breakfast)
Cereal
Porridge
Eggs
Bacon
Ham
Sausage
Hash browns
Biscuits
French/Regular Toast
Pancakes/Waffles
Cornbread
Muffins
Bagels
Yogurt
Orange juice
I'm not sure who the mafia foods are though.
Oh, and FOS: Lord rahl for acting way too aggressive.
EBWODB: Didn't see Lightster's post there. He may have a point. But we need to decide on some course of action. What do you suggest?

I do, and no, it's not my teeth
Quote from ZeDorkSlipeur »
@ Lightster : I wanted us to get out of the funkiness. It worked. I agree with you that we shouldn't go to far with that, however I have the intuition that we may learn some very useful things with this discussion.
Indeed, it got us out of funky town. And about that, sorry PF. Anyway, intuition that we may learn something useful from a discussion that seems to base itself in mafia-goodness? While it is quite possible that we will learn something useful out of this, it also seems possible that your "something useful" is relating to the mafia itself.
For that, FoS: ZDS. It's not that I don't trust you, but for the time being, I'd like to hear some reasons why it might be useful. Not that I'm against useful discussion, I just want to know how this would be useful, other than keeping us talking?
Quote from ZeDorkSlipeur »
@ Salubrious : Thank you for the link.
I guess. Probably is useful, but I was quite happy having forgotten what Marmite was *shudders from the memories*
I would now like Salubrious to answer this question :
Re-read very carefully your role PM. Does it have a line starting with "Affiliations :", and if yes, do you really think you have no idea who the mafia food are after carefully reading this line ?
Reread mine, and I think I see what you are talking about. Not sure if it would be perfect, but what is? The only problem is that if we do reveal this, for whatever reason, then the mafia should be able to fake it, based on what the rest of us say... mine doesn't exactly seem to be written in French (haha.. ha... haaa.... I'd probably be able to read most of it then anyway:-/).
So for the mean time, I'd like to hear what other people have to say on whether we should do some sort of affiliation reveal or not.
Additionally, if anyone else has ideas for what we could discuss, don't be afraid to pipe-up.
NINJA-EDIT: Oh, I see... we could not do some sort of mass-claim, but instead leave it for when someone goes on the chopping block, and then, as townfolk, we should be able to examine it based on our own and judge from there...
So assuming the person didn't screw it up, they would get the trust-votes from the mafia buddies, and a few townies, and a few townies would be undecided, and then townies who thought it wasn't right. While that doesn't sound great for the town, if we already have a case on someone, it could be that extra staw that broke the camel's back.
I wish I could figure out whom suggested a mass claim on Day 1, so I could vote them with a passion. Having everyone claim this early would accomplish virtually nothing, except to probably let some scum look cleared early, and make some non-scum look dirty just because of their roles. The town has vitually no interest in a claim right now. First of all, not every character name/role is going to be set in stone, and secondly, it is going to make us inherently biased against each other. I'm gonna go back and read and see who suggested this..that person is definetely scum.
I wish I could figure out whom suggested a mass claim on Day 1...
I think it was Pod, who took the step away from talking abou possible rolenames to actually making a claim.
Quote from Pod »
Firstly, I'm in favour of a name-claim.

Geeze, stupid retarded mistakes... I read Count Chocula all the way through there, and didn't notice him switch over to Count Dracula.
I definetly share a characteristic with Count Chocula, and I might share a characteristic with Count Dracula, depending on how you bat the semantics around.
And yes, i play aggressively, look at Newb 7, *recommended reading on how a town should NOT act*. I Act the exact same way. I am an agressive player, its how i am. It gets me into trouble but i dont really care, i tend to make the right calls on people and choices. So far, im not getting ANY kind of a vibe from anyone yet. Though i have a few people who are triggering my 'dar.
*p.s. yes, referring to previous games is a viable justification for play styles. especially in games such as this where there IS little justification*
So... ummm... nice weather?
Pod/Cyan thing is going to be interesting... i dont quite trust either, the actions that Pod has taken are quite general newb scum tells, whereas cyan is being much more agressive then he was in any other mafia i've seen him in.

LR: It's like my 3rd game. In Newb 7 it was my first game ever, obv. I couldn't be aggressive..in Star Wars Mafia, I'm soooo overclassed by some of those other guys that I never want to even post, let alone post aggressively(which I did against Az anyway and almost got lynched :P). I'm honestly an aggressive player I think, I just haven't been able to show it yet. Although, from what I can tell, Mafia has a whole frowns on aggressive play..you have to play aggressively for alot of games and die as town in some of them before you can really get away with it.
Pod:
Maybe you should try to explain how the town would benefit from everyone coming out and claiming? In general, yes, more information is better. But not when that information serves no real purpose and could possibly mislead people into being suspicious of each other.
If it appears in the above paragraph that I am strongly in favour of name-claiming, then I must state that I'm not really, simply because it seems too pointless, but no-ones really convinced me yet (sorry cyan) that it's that much of a bad idea for us. Affiliation claiming, though, would either be bad or pointless, i can't see a single reason to do it now.
I have to agree with Cyan, name-claiming is bad for the town.
1) The scum, if they delay their claims till near the end, know what names not to pick. (This can be remedied by making a set order for the claims to take place in.)
2) There's no guarantee that a scummy name = scum, and there's no guarantee that a townie sounding name = town. See Newb 7 for an example - Diggy was scum even though his claim (which was not a false-claim) sounded very town.
I agree that affiliation claiming in newb games is totally pointless
another person's words about claiming:
Quote from Lightster »

agreed. Town gains non-concrete information, mafia gains concrete information. The mafia also might be able to figure out the town power roles from name-claims.
I think I'm going to go ahead and Vote Pod for somewhat encouraging an idea that would help the mafia a great deal.
Quote from ZDS »

This claim idea is interesting . Avoiding quoting mod PMs would be a problem though, and it would probably reveal a lot of ppl's names. Also I wouldn't doubt that the scum would have "flavor" here that won't label them as scum, or that they'll be able to make the line up. As it stands, I'm not in favor of this type of "flavor claim".
Claiming IMO is best reserved for late-game, and when people are about to be lynched.

I was the first to use the word claim, yes, but it was a very short step from what was being talked about. I noticed you missed out my justification for using it as well, making me appear much worse than you needed to. Thank you for that.
He didn't ask for the rest of the post, he just asked who was the first to use the word. Me doing that was rather redundant, with us being at a whopping... 64 posts, I would like to think everyone here is willing to dedicate the time to go back and find it anyway, including the rest of the paragraph where you justify yourself... for those who can't, here it is:

Firstly, I'm in favour of a name-claim. Secondly, I'm not sure how much it will actually help us in this mafia game as opposed to others. Knowing whether someone is a piece of toast hardly tells us whether their scum or not. But it does get information out, and I guess any information is good information for the town at this point.
Hey! It was just so horribly frustrating to me; it was obvious to me who atleast two of the scum were, but the town was being idiotic and following Arimnaes around like a puppy chasing its master.

It's not a serious vote, just giving you a hard time. Though generally, in Mafia, acting overly defensive(being paranoid about people joking etc) just makes it look like you have something to hide.

Sounds reasonable enough to me.
Also sounds reasonable to me, though I'm fairly sure you've been on mtgs long enough to pull rank...
Who?
Oh, and mod, can we get a definition, in-thread, about what the funk is all about? Hope the bolding attracts your attention properly... And really, I don't think it will make a big difference, I just don't want a townie accidentally thrown in the garbage by the home-owner for being too funky
Extendo
The entire way that you state that is as if you have information that we do not. If you have information about what Funk is about, tell it to the town so we can all know.
You stating that you want inthread information, suggests you have it out of thread.
And you stating that you don't want a townie getting thrown out by the home-owner again suggests that that is what will happen to a charater that gets too many funk counters.... spill it.

Funk: Dedorkslipieur, Funk: Hyram
Reading back, hyram seems to be quite on the offensive, and DDS seems to be quite quiet lately hence the funkage.

Vanilla townies could be Marmite. LoL.

Marmite.
From the Breakfast article, I think the most likely foods we will encounter are the following: (Note: As Peregrine Falcon lives in the US I'm assuming we will stick to an American breakfast)
Cereal
Porridge
Eggs
Bacon
Ham
Sausage
Hash browns
Biscuits
French/Regular Toast
Pancakes/Waffles
Cornbread
Muffins
Bagels
Yogurt
Orange juice
I'm not sure who the mafia foods are though.

I guess. Probably is useful, but I was quite happy having forgotten what Marmite was *shudders from the memories*
Extendo
Extendo
I think it was Pod, who took the step away from talking abou possible rolenames to actually making a claim.

ZDS*Im not gunna bother typing out your name as ill just mess it up :P* i shall Un-FOS
And keep my FOS on Hyram who is likely dead :/
Pod:
Maybe you should try to explain how the town would benefit from everyone coming out and claiming? In general, yes, more information is better. But not when that information serves no real purpose and could possibly mislead people into being suspicious of each other.
I agree that affiliation claiming in newb games is totally pointless
another person's words about claiming:
agreed. Town gains non-concrete information, mafia gains concrete information. The mafia also might be able to figure out the town power roles from name-claims.
I think I'm going to go ahead and Vote Pod for somewhat encouraging an idea that would help the mafia a great deal.
