It's time once again for the annual event that everyone's been talking about; where nations meet in an effort to foster better relations and gain mutual understanding of each other. The air is abuzz with excitement, and the spectators can do little but stop and stare at the international candidates.
I am of course talking about the Miss World 2005 competition being held in Sanya, China. YOU poor saps are stuck in some boardroom in the middle of nowhere.

Rules:
1. Standard rules apply. As a game moderator, I'm pretty flexible with the rules on double-posting and editing of posts. If you edit your post BEFORE the next post is made, then I'll generally let it slide. Likewise, I will allow double-posts where there has been a significant slack in activity and there is a reasonable amount of time between the two posts. I would still recommend that you let spelling and grammar errors be, if possible. (I'm looking at YOU, Azrael.)
2. You can try to quote my Role PMs to you, but once again, I have asked multiple people to type up the country descriptions for me. It's generally not recommended though, since Crippled_Fist gets owned by 9 year old girls.
3. Unlike the previous World Domination Mafia, unvoting is allowed. For easy viewing, I would recommend that you use bold red to vote. It isn't necessary, but it makes life easier for everyone if you do.
The ambassador from godless_angel's nation has announced that they will no longer be participating in the meeting, having ceded sovereignity to another foreign power.
Quote from Hvirfilvindr »
godless_angel,
You are AUSTRIA.
Your nation is FOR US. I'd really love to have given you a special ability, but would you believe, I looked and there was almost NOTHING on the World News? Sorry about that. You're vanilla.
Please confirm and send in your night choice.
Victory condition:
All 'AGAINST US' nations eliminated.
In line with tradition, Crippled_Fist's nation has also announced that they have decided to withdraw from international talks in light of the recent nuclear assault on their capital.
Quote from Hvirfilvindr »
Crippled_Fist,
You are the UNITED STATES.
Your nation is 'FOR US'. Thanks to the Patriot Act you are able to extract key information in determining whether a particular nation is FOR US or AGAINST US. Since you're not that subtle, however, any inspected nation will be informed that they have been inspected, but not told by who.
Please confirm, and remember to name your inspection target for Night 0.
Victory condition:
All 'AGAINST US' nations eliminated.
Day 1 has begun! Discuss.
PS World Domination Mafia, why do you hate America? Why do you hate their freedom?
I'm not even sure if Puzzle is in this game, but I'm voting against him for being an American-hating Frenchman. Vote Puzzle. The French are always scum!
So night one we lose a vanilla towny... AND OUR INSPECTOR? this is mildly depressing. I just hope that because the US is dead, it doesn't affect "major" things in the game. (ie, since a nation is FOR US, and there is no US anymore... well, i don't know)
Also, 2 kills? Because of the "Nuclear" threat mentioned, i'd say there is a good chance that there is a "terrorist" country (ie SK) or that the mafia are "terrorist" countries.
Hrm. Well, while it's kind of funny that the US has been killed night 0 twice in a row, it sucks that both times we were informed that it had an inspection ability. It looks like this one might have been genuine, too.
I wonder if there's a "spy" role like Canada was in the original WDM?
Also, here's hoping that C_F has something to report when (if?) he replaces someone. Speaking of which, will both players be put on the replacement list?
Was G_A a new player? I'll have to check that out. S/he seems to be not such a great target; I have a hard time understanding the choice there.
Lastly, as I recall, the SK killed with nukes in the original iteration of this game; any thoughts on whether that has carried over? The SK also absorbed other powers as he killed, which might be in line with Austria ceding sovereignty to another nation. I'd be surprised if a role like that got copied over, though.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
I don't care what color you post in, but that's just me. The original WDM is a good read, I'd recommend it, but it is of course not necessary. It would give you insight into how the mod thinks, is all.
I went and looked and G_A isn't new to the site, and he has a smallish reference to mafia in his spoiler-sig, but I never heard of him before. Presumably he plays on other sites.
Also, looking closer at the daybreak report, I'd tend to think that the SK killed off Austria, since it says "another foreign power," singular.
Also, I just want to bring up that people thought that terrorist nations would make up the mafia in the first WDM, and it turned out that Egypt was both in the game and anti-town. It's something I doubt will be repeated.

Haha, there goes the stuuupid U.S...god who needs them anyway? Oh, I'm erm...gonna retract that statement from the record...if i could.
There was a nuclear assault on the U.S by the way...that could be of interest. Has to be a big-ish name country that did it.

My flavor is I was sucked through a mysterious space-time portal and I'm here to kill all the vampires, and my tracking ability is a combination of my Slayer and Native American skills.
I really have not particular information to share. I agree that most likely the SK annexed Austria (no real guesses on nation. Germany would historically make sense, but in the present time not really). And probably the US was nuked by the mafia. However, this information really makes me loath to roleclaim (to quote Puzzle or whomever in Random 2).
And no-lynch votes don't help the town, by the way. Except in very unlikely situations, they're no good. Just thought I'd point this out before some noob decides to do it. Don't jump on me for telling this, either, because it is much more of a n00b tell nowadays than a mafia tell. The mafia who've played know not to do it; the mafia who haven't played are just as likely as the town who haven't played to do it. It just distracts us, really.
As i'm still really new to this Sorry if i hold you down but i need to learn, a serial killer in a mafia game? After reading some of the other games is that someone that kills on their own?
Yep. That's pretty much what a serial killer is.
You're not holding us down, although a good place to read would be the Mafia Wiki.
At least I'm a dead man walking over in High School, so I can give this one my full attention. Going to need it, with a cop dead already.
Preliminary Vote Rhino just for giving "too eager to vote" as a reason for voting for Az. It's day 1. Most people random-vote in their first post, dude
Besides, I have no idea why the heck you'd be all talking about no lynches and being loath to roleclaim already. It's a bit early to be getting nervous, isn't it?
Well, that's a sore start for us so far, the cop down already? Oh well, it seems to happen a good deal in the games I've read... and the town manages to pull through in those alright, so our odds are still good. Random voting really isn't my bag, so perhaps we could speculate about the setup of the game? We have 21 people, and we know that there's a Vig (townie with the ability to kill, diggy) or a SK out there... could someone more experienced perhaps guess as to the size of the mafia?

A vig isn't just "better for the town", they are townie. The trouble only starts when a vig is either a novice player or thinks they're cleverer than they really are and kills the wrong people as a result.

I wouldn't say I'm an "expert", but I'm starting to tally up the game count a bit, and the mafia usually accounts for about 25% of the participants. Since we started with 20 folks it looks like, I would guess there are probably 5 mafia. Two dead townies, 13 people left. Banking on the suspicion we're not working with a trigger-happy vig this time, and it is an SK, we should have 12 townies and one SK.

I do not like his post at all. The no random voting is scummy (anyone who has played on Mafiascum knows this) and the random obvious speculation thing is eh. Along with the first comment, I don't like it.

Every freaking game I'm in, it seems like someone new to the game votes no lynch and then we're off on furiously researching their posts, but half the time they're townie. It's something that distracts the town from what it's supposed to do, and I don't want it to happen in this game. And if I wait until after it happens, it would be too late because then we would already have been distracted by it.
Being loath to roleclaim - I'm just following in some people from Random 2's footsteps here. Not saying why, just saying that I am indeed loath to roleclaim. I'm not getting nervous - just commenting that my role would be annoying to roleclaim, at least the way I see the game shaping up.

It's an event that I don't want to happen this game. In order to avoid it, I gave people advice against doing it. I'm honestly not regretting anything in that chain of events, nor do I see why it's so scummy.
I agree with the mafia most likely being the ones using the nukes, and the other kill going to an either over zealous vig (It's not me this time, I swear:sweat: ) or an SK. What I'd like to know is how in the world they are lucky enough to get the investigator night 0. Hopefully we either have a back-up or a deputy to clean up in the late game.

It's my belief that we might have a one time, or conditional vig, but more likely have the vampiric SK, as was mentioned earlier. I'm just glad that it looks like the SK just got a Vanilla, and not the investigator.
I'm also glad that the US, us, thing is now clear to me. Could US be the UN? Eh, i don't know, i'll try to think deeper thoughts at a later time.
Rhino, the reason why it's scummy to say things like that is because it sounds like you're giving the mafia advice. You may or may not be, but it sounds like it, and even if you aren't, it still helps them for than it helps the town. I won't vote for you because I think three votes is plenty.

Well, of course not, but at this point, we don't lose anything by operating under that assumption. If it comes to a point where the SK would side with us against the mafia, it's possible that we could get some use out of that assumption, and otherwise, at least there are no bad consequences.

I assume a lot of the vampiric (if we really will call it that) SK assumption is based on the fact that in WDM1 the SK was vampiric. I personally don't think is really matters at this point since they have no abilities if they really are.

That's quite frankly stupid reasoning, no offense meant. If I was mafia and wanted to give advice, why on earth would I post it in the thread? Wouldn't I just tell my comrades via PM? As scum, I have no logical reason to perform this action. As town, I do: I'm warning townies - and perhaps mafia too, but that's a side effect - away from an action that is detrimental to the town. There are any number of reasons why a mafioso wouldn't have been able to get off all the advice to his cohorts that he wanted to, the simplest being that he didn't think of it before time ran out. Basically, whether or not you're mafia, what your post amounts to is a reminder to all the mafia to stay under the radar, which isn't helpful, and is suspicious. Reminding townies to stay under the radar is equally unhelpful, and a less likely motivation.

Mafia MVP Matrix Mafia
Not a good start that we've lost a cop already.
V/LA: 3/21-3/24 & 3/27-3/29
I went and looked and G_A isn't new to the site, and he has a smallish reference to mafia in his spoiler-sig, but I never heard of him before. Presumably he plays on other sites.
Also, looking closer at the daybreak report, I'd tend to think that the SK killed off Austria, since it says "another foreign power," singular.
Also, I just want to bring up that people thought that terrorist nations would make up the mafia in the first WDM, and it turned out that Egypt was both in the game and anti-town. It's something I doubt will be repeated.

Hey, don't let that stop you.
The Gods demand a sacrifice!
There was a nuclear assault on the U.S by the way...that could be of interest. Has to be a big-ish name country that did it.
-Alpha
Can I vote for Alpha too? Please? Pretty please??

Yep. That's pretty much what a serial killer is.
You're not holding us down, although a good place to read would be the Mafia Wiki.

Is it just me, or does anyone else recognise a pattern developing here?
Please, dear God, not another game with a misfiring vig. That really would make kittybread cry ! (We lost two townies that way in High School Mafia).

WOLG, have you been killing the townies again? (just kidding, buddy) :wink2:
I wouldn't say I'm an "expert", but I'm starting to tally up the game count a bit, and the mafia usually accounts for about 25% of the participants. Since we started with 20 folks it looks like, I would guess there are probably 5 mafia. Two dead townies, 13 people left. Banking on the suspicion we're not working with a trigger-happy vig this time, and it is an SK, we should have 12 townies and one SK.
Bah! Now DM beat me to it. Seriously, I'm not much of a random-voter early; only if the game stalls. Looks like we've got plenty of action so far, which is very nice to see!
V/LA: 3/21-3/24 & 3/27-3/29
actually, because he just did what he voted for puzzle for doing

With 18 players left in the game, it's 10 to lynch.
You first post was very awfully scummy. Your next actions have done nothing to make up for it, but they have done nothing to make it worse.
Vote One True Sage
I do not like his post at all. The no random voting is scummy (anyone who has played on Mafiascum knows this) and the random obvious speculation thing is eh. Along with the first comment, I don't like it.
:ball rolling:
I'm aware of random voting. It's a joke reason/almost entirely joke vote. I'm not always going to be serious in these games, especially so early on.
*shrug*
It's an event that I don't want to happen this game. In order to avoid it, I gave people advice against doing it. I'm honestly not regretting anything in that chain of events, nor do I see why it's so scummy.
Oh yeah, Vote: beaker for voting someone for voting someone who voted someone.

I honestly still don't see how that's scummy.
@armlx: what's your "good reason"?
Vote no lynch!
*adds diggy to his hit list*
ZOMG STFU you n00b! You must be scumzorz!
At the beginning of the game not much info is likely to come up and 30 year first days don't seem like a good idea, because they are boring and there isn't all that much to talk about. Bandwagon=solution?
But wait - he probably knew I'd think that so really he's not scum trying to trick me into thinking he's scum.
But why would he do that ?!
(We're probably driving Hvir nuts by now aren't we ?)

vote:wellof for voting for someone, ah, screw it, just for revenge
otherwise, i think that the third vote on Rhino wasnt too suspiscious, we are still early in the game
vote Beaker. Newbie mafia making the mistake of defending something (musashi's vote on Rhino) that didn't need defending?
On a serious note, Rhino, with this you seem awfully defensive about your pointless post earlier:
FoS: Rhinocero. I think just about everyone in this game has enough sense not to push for a no lynch, so there really wasn't any need to go off on that tangent. Not necessarily scummy, per se, but I'm not sure it was called for or had any point, either.
V/LA: 3/21-3/24 & 3/27-3/29
Because I'm trying to bait scum into taking me on weak premises, obv. *beckons*
Tee-hee! That was fun.
You know, you've convinced me that at the least, you're worthy of a little more pressure. Unvote, Vote Rhinocero.

Hey, that post was not pointless. For one thing, look at all the discussion it's generated.
I'd like to think that as well, but I have no evidence to believe so. It wasn't called for, but it did have a point.
But part of my point here is that vote no lynch isn't particuarly scummy, it's more a mark of inexperience. Furthermore, I'm not trying to get people to stay under cover inasmuch as trying to avoid distracting the town for no good reason.
