Good evening. I hope everyone made it through the hurricane alright.
Thanks to Sandy, I've had some extra time to go through some of my cards. I noticed that I've had sleeves that are probably ten years old and need to be updated.
What types of sleeves do you use? Do you double sleeve?
I use dragon shields. No double-sleeving. Works fine for me, never had any issues. I've shuffled some friend's decks that used kmc perfect fits with dragon shields. They shuffled nice, but I couldn't really tell a significant difference.
I use KMC Perfect Fit sleeves for my entire collection. It's OCD but my collection retains a much higher value as a result, despite being played with. When I build a deck I double sleeve the cards by placing them inside KMC Blue Matte sleeves for Legacy decks and Ultra Pro(just mana symbols, no art) sleeves for Standard decks. Once I have built a deck it usually stays built for some time, especially my Legacy decks, so the entire deck will remain double sleeved in a deckbox.
There are a couple of videos of people dropping double sleeved cards into sinks or buckets of water on Youtube and the cards are totally dry after being retrieved. I figured that piece of mind from accidents, minor natural disasters, etc was worth the cost of sleeving the whole collection up once. If you keep the cards long enough then preventing play wear and discoloration will more than pay for the cost of the KMC Perfect Fit sleeves.
Perfect Fits + Dragon Shield. Its probably the best way to sleeve, only because Dragon Shields are bigger so you can double sleeve easier.
I think I like Dragon Shileds the best except their cut is god awful. They have the worst cut you can possibly imagine. One box would be taller than the last so you can't even save your old sleeves for anything. The edges are also super rough compared to KMC or Ultra Pro making some boxes of Dragonshield sleeve shuffle horribly.
Despite these things Dragon Shields are fine because they still protect my cards.
Sleeves can only do so much. Sometimes it all comes down to how you handle your cards. Some of the guys in my playgroup shuffle their RUG Delvers like a deck of Bicycle cards that are given away in Vegas and airliners.
I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.

Most people use KMC Perfect fit sleeves with either KMC matte/super or dragonshields.
Ultra-Pro mattes are decent, but they split an awful lot for me. The Ultra-Pro sleeves with the pictures on the back were deemed terrible.
