Alright, so a few days ago a friend and I were playing Commander. Normal Magic day, and we got to thinking about Magic variant formats. In the midst of this we started brewing our own. We call it Triumvirate. How it works: 3 Commander style cards, Legendary creatures, the like. But of only 3 colors or less. There are no 5 or 4 color decks, they are based around shards, wedges, two color blocks, and mono colored builds. 60 card decks in the style of Modern and Standard with 3 "Trium" creatures set to the side in the Trium zone. You have 30 life and your 3 "Triums." How the "Triums" work is they enter the battlefield like any Commander would. How they differ is that when they die they are exiled. Should all three of your Commanders be exiled you lose the game. Decks will use Commander and Modern legal cards to build their decks. Modern and Commander Banned lists apply and no duplicate legendary creatures as your Triums. This was best played as a 1v1 format but may also be a multiplayer game. Let me know what you guys and gals think, suggestions are warmly welcomed.
Or are you required to put your triums out? Why even bother bringing your last trium out of the command zone at all though? If you know you lose the game if you lose it...who would ever play it?
