The unnamed officer brings his recruits (Aruven, Thousandson, Janon, Krensae) to the armory. There he looks over each of them.
The officer himself reaches out for what is apparently his equipment. And the kit shows that he's been no slouch in the company. A shining steel breastplate, showing dents and dings of real combat. Greaves and boots of the same metal. Gauntlets he doesn't put on, but a sword belt he does that contains a sword that seems to be glowing. He leaves a shield with the gauntlets, and a helmet is there as well.
"I don't believe in hacking away at a dummy to learn skills. I don't believe in fighting allies for practice. You either fight an enemy, and get good fast, or you stay at home. So guess what we're doing, kiddies."
He looks at each of them, rather blue eyes under cropped brown hair. A scar across his eye stands out, but apparently the same wound didn't touch the eye at all.
"Now. I'm sure each of you has at least touched a weapon. Or done something that may be useful in combat. If not, you probably wouldn't be here. So tell me what you're going to do to be useful. Then, we'll get you equipment to suit."
Thousandson: Well then sir I've a bit of experience with the pickaxe as working the mines has led me to be able to use it to a decent extent. I also can do a bit of earth manipulating which has helped me out of a spot or two. I figure I am probably best suited to help support whoever is the takin the lead as I beleive I can take it and dish it out somewhat. Also if you find yourself somewhere underground or in a cave you can always count on me to know which way to go. Caves and such are my specialty.
Thousandson then grows quiet as he really doesn't want to appear full of himself as many dwarves do.

Sir, I'm best with weapons that give me a some reach. I like being able to have a clear view of the field so I can take advantage of the land. I'm not so good with swords, and dreadful with axes or battle hammers. I've lived on the trail for awile so I'm becoming expierienced at tracking. I guess I could also provide some rations of fish I guess since I was kinda born around water...
Oh, and I could provide some kind entertainment around a campfire as I'm practicing with a harp.

"Well, sir, I don't have that much weapon experience besides some basic moves with a dagger." She says slowly. "I don't believe weapons are the first option, and should weapons be necessary, then a dagger is a good option because of the speed of the weapon. Besides, steel isn't the only weapon that can be used in a battle. I'm interested in those 'weapons' as well."

"I've swung my father's old claymore around a bit, sir, but I'm not particularly skilled. I've started to get a feel for longer, two-handed swords, though. While I don't have any real experience in armed combat, I'm no stranger to hard work and hard blows."
Hope we start smashin' face soon. I'm in need of somethin' to take my mind offa breakin' fast.
The officer hands equipment to each of them as they speak. Apparently, they aren't getting anything fancy. Thousandson is given a handaxe, leather body armor, and a leather skullcap. Krensae gets a spear, leather body armor, and leather greaves. Aruven gets her dagger, the body armor like the other two, and leather gauntlets. Janon gets a bastard sword (hand-and-a-half sword), the leather armor, and a leather skullcap as well.
The officer and the quartermaster show the recruits how to put their armor on over their uniforms. Each piece of armor is sized, checked, and then taken off. Their weapons are given to them to hold.
"You will need to make sheathes or holders for those weapons. You will be taught to do that tomorrow. You will have it done by the end of the week. Now that you're fitted, we're off to the kitchens. No one can fight on an empty stomach. Then, we go."
Still without a name, the officer leads them to the kitchens where they get good, if standard, food. Half a loaf of bread, soup, salted pork, and milk or water. Their preference. No beer or alcohol to be found within this particular kitchen, that's for sure.
When their bellies are straining against their belts they are brought back to the armory to pick up their armor, which has been fitted to each. As soon as they're ready, to the officer's taste, they head out. Leaving the armory, then the parade grounds, off onto the road they had all been on the morning before.
"It's going along nicely," she says softly, "I've slept well and I got my hands on a few warmer clothes in the barracks." She looks at the dagger in her hand, wondering how many people have used it before her. It felt old, used.
She looks at the road and follows it until her eyes spot the officer. She thinks a moment and then increases her pace until she's close to him. "Sir, may I ask for you name, or how should we call you?"

Full was a feeling Thousandson was ok with. The ration given to him was more than enough although he did wish it had come with some ale. But hey he wasn't one to complain. Seeing that two of the friendly types were with him bothered him a bit but hey at least he wasn't with the other group.
As they continue along he begins to thumb his axe. Not as good as a pickaxe but same general theory. Put the sharp end in the enemy. No problem.

The officer looked back at Aruven before slowly nodding, "You may ask." Then he continues marching. They pull off the road and head through some woods, angling away from the more populated areas.
Testing the feel of the axe Thousand son begins to take a few swipes and hacks at the air in front of him. Pleased with the result he returns it to his small holder. He begins to think about what they will face. Humanoid things? Meah it doest matter he will get them good. He also begins to think to himself how lucky he is at least with the people he got. At least he didn't get someone full of how beautiful they were or complaining about what color their gear was. He got some good sensible people not emotional complicated ones.
OOC: Yeah I have been reading the other thread thought I should poke fun at them.

You better like this group, you've got the only 2 meatshields in the entire bunch of recruits with you
What? Complaining about the uniform color? I don't know who you're talking about. . .
Janon stretched as he walked, loosening up in anticipation of the coming action. "Don't matter the race, they all tend to stop movin' iffen you hit them in the head enough times. Now keepin' 'em from bashin' you, tha' can be tricky."
He had noticed several berry bushes and edible roots, not to mention small game, but the mercenary outfit provided an ample breakfast. Good to know we'll be taken care of, but I doubt it'll be so coushy once we're trained and out in the field.
Thousandson listens to what Janon says and nods his head in agreement.
Thousandson: Ye be right my friend. Hopefully when it comes to the hitting we will be hitting them more than they be hitting us. Directed twoards the Captain. So sir how much farther till we reach the enemy? My axe is requiring a little breaking in.

The officer glances at the two 'talkative' ones. "You shouldn't be so willing to bash things first and ask questions later. That could get you in big trouble, in and out of the company. Right now, we're going for a little stroll."
Thousandson: I apoligize sir tis just I'm a little ancy and the whole diplomacy thing has never quite been my strongpoint. Its not really any dwarves strongpoint. We show diplomacy frequently with our might. But again sir I apologize.
No need to get in trouble this soon. That type of thing is for later after we decide to outdrink the captain.

Aruven sighs and falls back into a position a few metres behind the man. It seems like he didn't want to tell his name after all, or he just wanted to play games with her. Whichever it was, Aruven wasn't really interested any more.

I really hope the other teams going to muck those stables. It would provide much more fuel for us to make fun of them (the characters, not their players). Thellotar's a jerk, but he's an interesting character. I want to see Nevin's reaction to his reaction to being told to shovel horse...
The officer was trying to prove a point to Aruven, a point that seemed to be missed. But, regardless, he would have told her his name if she had actually asked his name, not asked if he'd answer if she asked.
They tromp through the woods before reaching the outskirts of a camp. Not quite seen yet, the officer gestures for them to all fall to a knee to not be seen.
OOC: You know falling to a knee for many of the humans brings them down to Thousandson's height but hey I will entertain our captain.
Thousandson goes to a knee although it is kinda of silly for him. His height naturally makes him lower to the ground but he doesn't wish to upset the captain.
