So, it's my understanding that you can buy just about any HDD to use in the playstation 3 once you've downladed too much crap for the one it comes with (oh yeah, I'm there already). But before I drop a ton of money on one, is there anyone here who has done this already? How well did it work? And is it simple/hard?
I'm not very techno-savvy and I want to know a bit more about it before I do it. Also, if anyone knows of any decent brands, etc. of hard drive that are better than otheres, let me know.
Thanks for any input!:D
EDIT: They have a video on you tube of someone actually replacing it, so I'm not asking how, I just want some opionions on it first!
I have a friend who did one he put like a 300 gig into his 60 gig PS3. Basically from what I read you just want a standard size PC hard drive that is 5200 RPM.
Nearly any will work from what I understand I don't know anyone else that has done it but my information is second hand of course.
You can replace it with a larger drive, you just need a hard drive that meets the following criteria:
2.5" (so you can easily fit it in the case)
Serial ATA (Do NOT buy "parallel ATA" or IDE hard drives)
5400 RPM (This is what the standard hard drives run at, some people have reported good results with 7200 RPM hard drives.
Finding one of these drives shouldn't be too difficult... As for what to do once you swap them I have no idea as I don't actually own a PS3.
