Just getting into the hobby - the wife and I are about a month or two in at this point and are having a blast. We first built a mono red Goblin deck that's been a lot of fun to play, so it only makes sense to try to build a deck to counter it (and to counter the vamp/zombie mono black deck we also built). We and our friends have settled on the Modern format, so here I am.
The deck below tries to lock down the early game until there's enough mana to support the angels, and enough time to get the angels organized in the hand. The sideboard allows for shifting the balance between lifegain, draw, and removal. I realize there are cards out there that can hate on goblins specifically, but the idea is to prevent the deck from becoming too specialized (our budget is ~$150/month, and this is October's deck).
One of the things I struggle with is dispensing with the idea that a card isn't worth having in the deck unless there are four of them. I also haven't mana-balanced the deck yet; I think it's close, but not quite there.
