On the same day that Michael Fortier was released from prison, after serving only eleven years, for his role (including, illegal weapons possession, conspiracy and financing terrorism) in the Oklahoma city bombings (an attack that killed 168 people and injured 400 others), the indictments, including one life sentence, of 11 member of the Earth and Animal Liberation Fronts were announced; despite the fact that charges range from arson to sabotage and conspiracy, not a single death or injury is involved.
I find this shows a very disturbing precedent regarding the Justice Department's relative valuing of human life versus industrial profit.

The cases are all tried by different judges in different jurisdictions. While it is sad that a mass murder accomplice like Fortier ended up walking free after such a short time, the other jurisdiction probably took into account the potential for arson, sabotage, etc. to result in bodily injury or death to employees of the companies involved.
For instance, sabotaging mechanical equipment used for processing raw materials might cause an industrial accident or disaster; whereas spamming up their computers or some financial sabotage might have been met with a lesser sentence for fraud or industrial espionage.

Indictments, or convictions?
(I think you still have a very telling point, either way.)
Although eco-terrorists like that do kind of damage the reputation of more sensible environmentalists.

Just indictments. I saw the two back to back on Democracy now, so I thought I'd bring it up. Also don't mean to imply that I support eco-terrorism, or that there aren't inherent dangers in arson. (Though it should be noted that there has never *to the best of my knowledge* been an ALF or ELF associated fire when people were present inside the building to be burned. I know of one instance in which ALFers canceled their operation mid stride and were arrested because they realised there was someone present.)
