So I was thinking of cards that could be in OGW and Voidslime came to mind because it would be an interesting tool to counter some Eldrazi cast triggers, but they probably wouldn't reprint that because of the color requirement and the presence of fetchlands. So then I wondered what other card they could print in the same vein. Here are some ideas.

Counter target spell, activated ability from a nonland source, or triggered ability.
I personally like the first one as it's cleaner, cheaper, and a bit more potent in that it can counter an eldrazi and its cast trigger. You can even use it on stuff like landfall or rally triggers separately. The second one is a bit more versatile in that it can get activated abilities and noncreature spells, but costs more and would have to include the "nonland" clause to be balanced.
Edit: Removed apparently problematic "target"s from the second card.
I would highly consider using the first one, for a few reasons:
- Especially in BFZ block, the fact that it references both of what typically appears solely on Eldrazi creature spells gives it an extremely strong anti-Eldrazi feel.
- The second version requires three targets (a spell, an activated ability, and a triggered ability), so it wouldn't be very easy to cast.
- Modal spells are always nice.

I don't understand why you included a nonland clause - at 4 mana, countering a fetchland activation isn't unfair.
Trickbind is legal in Modern, and sees practically no play in Modern.
Keep in mind that I'm talking about if this were in standard. Not only are fetches a concern here, but other lands (like the blighted lands) would also be problematic. It always feels extra bad when you spend lots of mana AND sacrifice a land and your ability gets countered.

While I agree with your other points, the second does not require three targets. Refer to Voidslime. As long as there's an "or" in there, the other targets aren't necessary.

The way you worded it, yes it does require 3 targets because you wrote "target spell, target activated ability from a nonland source, or target triggered ability". The spell needs a legal target for each instance of the word target, and in this case only a spell satisfies the first target, an activated ability from a nonland source for the second, and a triggered ability for the third, and you'd choose which target to counter upon the resolution of the spell. Voidslime says "target spell, activated ability, or triggered ability". It only says the word "Target" once, therefore only requires one target that can be of any of those 3 types.

I feel like a judge should be called on this... But if that is the case, then I'd gladly remove the extra "target"s.

Ultimately though, it's just one card + mana invested in exchange for the Aethermute. The same thing that happens if say, Bring to Light is countered. There aren't any 'extra' resources that were lost.

Counter tatget spell and all abilities that triggered when that spell was cast.
Eldrazi, prowess, heroic, storm, ...
Neat, but can the game "see" where that all comes from? The broadness of the wording of Torpor Orb suggests yes, but this would definitely have to have an FAQ entry.

Yes, the game is indeed able to track the trigger condition that was satisfied for a triggered ability to trigger.

So nice. Think it could counter noncreature spell for UU?
