Thinking about red's randomness through the lens of gambling.

Sorcery {U} (:sym2r: can be paid with any two mana or with R.
This card’s converted mana cost is 6.)
Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile the top
card of your library until you exile a nonland
card that costs less. You may cast that card
without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled
cards on the bottom of your library at random.)

That is actually pretty cool. But it can't hit Inferno Titan .
I made a somewhat similar card:
Chord of ChaosXGGW
Sorcery (U)
Convoke (Each creature you tap while casting this spell reduces its cost by or by one mana of that creature's color.)
Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order.)

Cool concept, at best it goes from RRR to 5 mana, which doesn't seem too strong, especially since you're more likely to hit something that costs less. The only thing I don't like about it is that it only cascades, which is just a tad awkward.

It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.

Right. It feels a bit odd to me as well, but potential for a 5-cost on turn 3 is pretty nice (I've seen too many turn 3 Balefire Dragons...).
It's more of a "I don't know what I need, but I need it now" kind of card.

I wonder, since Cascade is somewhat the five-color mechanic (Maelstrom Nexus), wouldn't Reaper King be a cooler mana cost?
Sure, the potential to hit a 9-drop (or Maelstrom Wanderer) for 5 is always exciting. However, cascade showed up here mostly as a byproduct of thinking about randomness in red. It wasn't the first angle I tried, but I think it ended up being the best mechanically.
Had I set out to make a neat cascade card, I probably would have started with a :sym2w::sym2u::sym2b::sym2r::sym2g: cost.

The card would definitely need to do more to justify it costing all 5 colours. And I would argue that Cascade, in terms of its color identity, feels more Red and Blue than Green, White or Black and might have been a more defined mechanic in those terms if it hadn't been printed in an all gold set.
This card feels like it should do something else, even if it's something small. A discard then draw (or vice versa) would be a decent enough effect.
I think Maelstrom Wanderer has the right idea here; red's random, blue gets to cheat spells, and green gets to cheat permanents, so I like this color combo the best for the "cascade" colors.
This might be kinda cool at (2/U)(2/R)(2/G).
EDIT: Cascade is the only mechanic ever to be specifically multicolored; even when brought back in planechase 2, the new cascade cards were still multicolor. IMO, cascade just doesn't feel right on a monocolored card, even though it technically has nothing to do with color.

You know, that's actually a really good point. Cost at :sym2u::sym2r::sym2g: it's like Genesis Wave and Epic Experiment had a baby on Alara.
Man, this is making me want to get back into wedge design...
