I decided to design a creature that allowed you to sacrifice it at any time (as a free action :p) as one of it's abilities. However, I find myself at a loss on how exactly to word this ability.
The obvious is "0: Sacrifice this", but then again, wouldn't Sphinx of Jwar Isle have read "0: Look at the top card of your library." if that were always the case?
Looking towards the Sphinx, it leads you to believe that "You may sacrifice this. (You may do this at any time)" might work. However, that doesn't feel like it fits at all.
What do you say? Is there a third option anywhere?
"You may sacrifice -THIS- at any time." is the best option, but I think it would be a poor design.
The thing is, you are removing a lot of interaction right there. If it could be sacrificed for an effect, then you would add another layer of depth to the card.
There are plenty effects that can be added for no cost...
See also Circling Vultures. "You may sacrifice <CARDNAME> any time you could cast an instant."
Looking at the top card of your library usually won't have any impact on the game state, whereas a card changing zones could get messy if it happened, for example, in the middle of assigning combat damage. There's also the possibility of things triggering at awkward times if you could sacrifice when you ordinarily couldn't cast an instant.

"Sacrifice <this>: <effect>"
now if you just want to be able to sacrifice it without any effect then I'm not sure.
Proud Father of a beautiful baby Girl as of 12-27-13.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'm going to bed.
