I really love these comics. I really love EDH. And im kinda bored so...
Dream of the Endless2UB (MR)
Legendary Creature- Avatar? Illusion? (not sure on this)
Each player plays with their hand and the top card of their library revealed. Any player may play spells revealed this way.
1/2
Too strong? Too cheap? Either can be fixed, I think its just a funny ability that would really shake some games up.
Originally I had it that just your opponents revealed their hands (and no top cards of libraries at all)
I feel like its sort of balanced by the fact that while you gain access to their cards, everyone else gets it too..
Another idea for this dude!
Morpheus, Lord of Dreams3UB (MR)
When ~ the battlefield, return up to twotarget creatures target creature to its owners hand and target opponent loses life equal to the number of cards in their hand.
3/3
I like how he can bounce himself and another creature and get the second ability over and over.. (right?)
(no need to be able to bounce two creatures, so I made him one cheaper and removed one of the bounces)
Again, maybe too strong for the cost, but I figure start strong and work from there.
third idea..
Morpheus Dream-King4UB (MR)
Flash
When ~ enters the battlefield, choose two: Counter target spell, target opponent discards two cards, target creature gains shadow and haste, or target player draws a card.
1/3
A weird sorta cryptic command commander, probably way too strong, but looks fun to me!
EDIT: flash and haste is a weird mix that I dont really like. in fact this whole idea seems unfun to me now, so scrapped. maybe ill come back to the modal legendary guy sometime though
comment away!
EDIT: another try!
Dream of the endlessUB (MR)
Legendary Creature- Avatar
When~ etb, each opponent reveals his or her hand and the top card of his or her library. Until the eot, you may choose and cast one spell revealed this way.
1/4
EDIT AGAIN!: after looking at some suggestions, what about this newest idea! I like the flavor of how the Endless cant be killed are very difficult to kill (sorry). Working on whether to use proliferate for sure or not. Now proliferates twice!
Morpheus of the Dreaming3UB
When ~ etb and at the beginning of each of your upkeeps, proliferate, then proliferate again.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, you may return it to your hand instead.
3/3
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
i see what your saying, but some of peoples favorite legends are pretty plain and powerful..
I agree though, i like the first of these the best i think because its so different. trying to still work with it and figure out what should be revealed and how much he should cost.
I like the other two because they do stuff to the board and etb triggers are dynamite...hmmm

This is not exactly an argument against of what Im saying! In this list, most creatures have a unique ability, some of them have a unique set of abilities (things that put together become quite powerful).
Some of them, like Jenara, Asura of War, are just very efficient creatures, but those are the most boring ones!
If you had to make a Commander deck, I am sure you would rather choose something of the first two categories rather than something of the second.

Are we arguing? It seems like there is just a difference in tastes here.
I think Jenara is a fine commander, one of the stronger ones in her colors because she makes a prettty cool voltrony style general. Your own example, thrun, is basically a newer, better troll ascetic ie not unique. I would consider him kind of single functioning, he is a beatstick that is damn hard to kill.
I think ALL of these cards I have offered are more "unique" than him, though not as different as the triplets. but the thing is, not every legend needs to be as unique as the triplets or similar cards.
I DO love legends that are different and fun (did you see the first card? what else does that? What cards do what my other versions do, exactly?) but it seems like you are saying there shouldnt be non-super-unique abilities for legends, which i strongly disagree with. dong zhu, the tyrant + lots of potals legends that people love wydwen, the biting gale arcanis the omnipotent isamaru, hound of konda
outside the box is cool (srsly, I like outside the box..i dont see how my first listed version is not outside the box..) but not necessary, and forcing a card to have abstract. wierd abilities just because its a general seeems like a bad way to design legends. imo. if you like em to be crazy and unique, groovy man, more power to ya

I adore these books and pretty much everything Niel Gaiman produces (my avatar for two or three years, before the octopus, was Morpheus).
Here's my take on the Endless:
Death of the Endless 3WB
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep exile target creature.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.
4/4
Destiny of the Endless 3UU
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep draw a card.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.
3/3
Dream of the Endless 3UB
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep exile the top 10 cards of target player's library.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.
4/4
Destruction of the Endless 3RR
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep ~ deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.
5/5
Desire of the Endless 3UR
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep untap target creature and gain control of it until end of turn.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.
3/3
Despair of the Endless 3WW
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep tap up to 4 target permanents.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.
3/3
Delerium of the Endless 3RR
Legendary Creature--Avatar
When ~ enters the battlefield and during your upkeep each player discards their hand and draws that many cards.
If ~ would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, put it into your hand instead.

WOW those are really strong! The fact that they never really die is hella good. Makes sense though, since they never really die lol
Glad to see another fan who gets the characters though
I love Despair, and its on color pie, I just always thought of despair as black though. But tapping creats is so appropriate and also so white, so it works.
Death seems WAY overpowered for five mana to me. maybe not though.
I wish Destiny did something cooler besides just draw cards. I mean its pretty good, but seems way worse than some of the others for five and I dunno, he doesnt feel like a monoblue sorta guy to me. Could be very wrong though, Im only on Brief Lives atm so I very well could be off about these..:embarrass:
Dream is strong and on color, but milling is kinda generic dontcha think? I wouldnt wanna use him as a general, which is really what Im going after. Not a bad card at all and it makes sense, its just kinda meh to me though.
Desire as UR hmmmm yea I guess that works out. She always seemed kinda blackish too though, but im not sure. Thats a tricky one. Love the ability here. Strong, balances, and fun!
Destruction is cool. Monored makes sense.
But Delirium as monored? I dunno man. She used to be delight after all. Maybe RG, or RGU, ornaya colors.. i dunno, thats another tricky one.
I like her ability and it is pretty red, so it makes sense for sho.
Love these cards! The only one I wouldnt wanna use is Dream lol
Maybe instead of mill he could Recoil creatures? probably too strong to be repeatable for free. OH! what if he proliferated! That would be so awesome

Aw man, spoiler alert! I even said that I was only on number 7 brief lives! o darn lol
Your right though I guess he does acknowledge that Lucifer was probably going to be able to destroy him earlier on..
I was mostly thinking of that because they are at the very least EXTREMELY difficult to kill or contain. Gods die, mortals die, lots of stuff dies, the endless are endless. Or at least thats what I was thinking, but I guess thats not entirely true.
ps its Morpheus. No extra 'o'.
As far as the cards go, I think Im going to make a mock up of the two mana one I posted and try making an EDH deck with him. Ill letcha know if that goes well.

I love Despair, and its on color pie, I just always thought of despair as black though. But tapping creats is so appropriate and also so white, so it works.
My first thought was to make her black too (rats and all), but she's really not selfish at all. In fact, her empathy is kind of the reason she's so depressed (which is subtlety hinted at). Plus, the mechanics fit perfectly into white.
Death seems WAY overpowered for five mana to me. maybe not though.
Well, note that there's no "may," which means that once you get all your opponent's creatures you have to start picking at your own (and then, when no one's left, she exiles herself, just like the series).
At first I had him with a variation of scry, but I figured just drawing was more elegant and scrying isn't very powerful compared to others on the list. Why not monoblue? That's on the few I didn't have to think about too hard.
Dream is strong and on color, but milling is kinda generic dontcha think? I wouldnt wanna use him as a general, which is really what Im going after. Not a bad card at all and it makes sense, its just kinda meh to me though.
I figured that he usually attacks your mind (like the guy who summoned him, the guy who captured Calliope, ect.). He also mills at the very least a 6th of a deck each turn. I sort feel he could be monoblue, but he can be pretty selfish and I wanted to avoid making monos when I could.
Desire as UR hmmmm yea I guess that works out. She always seemed kinda blackish too though, but im not sure. Thats a tricky one. Love the ability here. Strong, balances, and fun!
Yeah, I think you're probably right about that. The blue is mostly for mechanical reasons, but I think erring on the side of black is ok here.
But Delirium as monored? I dunno man. She used to be delight after all. Maybe RG, or RGU, ornaya colors.. i dunno, thats another tricky one.
I like her ability and it is pretty red, so it makes sense for sho.
Well, remember that red is also the color of strong emotions (including, but not limited to, rage) and impulsiveness. I might see her as UR since she's stuck in her own thoughts much of the time. It was weird that there were none that aligned with green. I thought Death could maybe fit into green since she's all about enforcing the natural order of things, but killing creatures is pretty ungreen.
Love these cards! The only one I wouldnt wanna use is Dream lol
Maybe instead of mill he could Recoil creatures? probably too strong to be repeatable for free. OH! what if he proliferated! That would be so awesome
Thanks! Like I said, I love the series. Too bad it god spoiled a bit (shame Mondu! :p). Bounce/discard might make some sense mechanically, but I'm not sure it's a flavor match. Proliferating might be too weak (since you need other cards, with counters, for him to be effective).

yea that is exactly what I realized for dream, and your explanation for milling makes a ton of sense. I just feel like thats so....narrow I guess. I dunno, Ill think about it some more and get back to you.
Death makes sooo much more sense now! thats a really cool card to flavor match man.
I suppose monoblue is really the best for Destiny, I just was thinking white in there because he is so much about order and structure to everything playing out as it must. Plus, he's all about labyrinths and paths, so in my head I was thinking of giving him a Maze of ith / that new maze from m11 ability like: Destiny of the Endless3UW
When ~ etb and at the beginning of your upkeep, exile target creature and return it to play at eot. Its control may draw a card when it returns to the battlefield.
3/3
I know that the ability is probably worded wrong, but that is the sort of thing I had been thinking of for destiny.
