This is a month long contest with a minimum of 4 rounds. Each round, you will be given a selection of options to pick from. You must pick exactly one option, one "element", from each list in a given round. You then design your card, and submit it as you would in any other thread.
But there's a catch.
As soon as an entry is submitted, the "Elements" that player used are then off limits and will be crossed of the list. Futhermore, if all the elements are used up in the round, no more entries can be submitted.
At the end of the entry period (about 3-4 days or when all the elements are used) peer judging will be used, where you will judge 5 other participants based on order of submission. You must judge the card as submitted, without credence or care that they may have had less options then other players. Only the end result matters. You make a top 3 list, with the the winner receiving 3 points, 2nd 2, and 3rd 1. Over the month the points are tailed with the winner announced each month. You will be given 2 days. If you are delinquent in judging, you will be disqualified from the round. You may participate in as many or few rounds as you wish each month.
Round 3: Elements of Legend
Despite the ravenges of elemental beings and titanic forces of destruction, there still survive the legends of items of great power beyond comprehension.
Create a legendary equipment with the following elements:
Element 1: The equipment must obviously be a
Katana
Lance
Rapier
Jian
Scepter
Diadem
Mallet
Quiver
Scythe
Javelin
Gauntlet
Slippers
Cape
Cane
Cuirass
Element 2: It must grant one of these
Vigilance
First Strike
Haste
Trample
Deathtouch
Flying
Reach
Indestructible
Intimidate
Hexproof
Regenerate
Infect
Lifelink
Protection from spells
Protection from creatures
Element 3: It must reference one of these races in its rules
Wurm
Spider
Spirit
Gorgon
Siren
Rat
Giant
Moonfolk
Sliver
Atog
Merfolk
God
Minotaur
Sphinx
Praetor
This round is open until Midnight Thursday (November 20th) US EST or until all the elements have been used.
*Remember: You must pick 1 element from each list, and ONLY one. For example, only one equipment in this round can grant vigilance. *Also, keep in mind the type of weapon must be obviously the kind of weapon listed. Picking "Rapier" is not an excuse to make any kind of sword nor "Slippers" an excuse to make any kind of boot/footwear.
This round is officially closed, thank you for playing. Here are the finally results:
Quiver of the Silklord3
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and gains reach.
Whenever a creature dealt damage by equipped creature this turn dies, put X 1/2 green Spider creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is that creature's toughness.
Equip 4
Broodkeeper Quiver2
Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature gets +1/+0 and gains reach.
Whenever a creature dealt damage by equipped creature this turn dies, put a 1/2 green Spider creature token onto the battlefield.
Equip 1
Minotaur's Mallet2
Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has haste.
Whenever a Minotaur enters the battlefield under your control, you may attach Minotaur's Mallet to it.
Equip 2
Please keep in mind, while both of your entries follow the rules in terms of picking one element from each list, this challenge asks for a LEGENDARY equipment.
Sceptor of Infinite Riddles6
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature has protection from spells. 3UUUT: Counter target non-creature spell, put an X/X blue Sphinx token with flying onto the battlefield, where X is that spell's converted mana cost.
Equip: Discard a non-creature, non-land card from your hand.
Diadem of Storms2
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature has flying.
Activated abilities of equipped creature cost 1 less to activate. If equipped creature is a Moonfolk, those abilities cost an additional 1 less to activate.
I wanted to make it not require you to return as many lands for moonfolk, but the templating was terrible. "Activated abilities cost "return a land you control to its owner's hand" less to activate." o.O
Plague Rapier3
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature gets +1/+0 and has deathtouch.
Whenever equipped creature attacks, put a rot counter on Plague Rapier, then put a 1/1 black Rat creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield tapped and attacking for each rot counter on Plague Rapier.
Equip 3
Assimilation Cuirass2
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature is a Sliver in addition to its other types and has "1: Another target creature you control becomes a copy of this creature until end of turn."
Equip 2
IIW: Same p/t/cmc
THERE ARE NO IIW! ( )
Also, your card doesn't grant one of the keyword abilities as written.
Nuraa, the Storm Javelin4
Legendary Artifact - Equipment {M}
Equipped creature gets +3/+0, has first strike, and has "T, Unattach Nuraa, the Storm Javelin: This creature deals 3 damage to target creature. If this creature is a Giant, instead it deals 3 damage to each creature your opponents control".
Equip 3
Soul-Shepard's Cane3
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (MR)
Equipped creature gets +2/+1 and has lifelink.
Whenever equipped creature blocks or becomes blocked by one or more non-God, non-artifact creatures, you may pay 2WB. If you do, exile those creatures. Their controller puts a 2/2 black Zombie token with flying onto the battlefield for each creature exiled this way.
Equip 3 - This ability costs 3 less if target creature is a God.
Soul-Shepard's Cane2
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (MR)
Equipped creature gets +1/+1 and has lifelink.
Whenever equipped creature blocks or becomes blocked by one or more non-God creatures, you may pay 4. If you do, exile those creatures. Their controller puts a 1/1 white Spirit token with flying onto the battlefield for each creature exiled this way.
Equip 3
Your card cannot reference both Gods and Spirits in its rules text, as both are options on the same list. Additionally, spirits has already been used.
Mirrored Gauntlet3 Legendary Artifact – Equipment {M}
Equipped creature has +2/+2 and vigilance.
When equipped creature blocks or is blocked by a Gorgon, that Gorgon loses deathtouch until end of turn and can't have or gain deathtouch until end of turn. To protect himself from the Gorgon's ghastly visage, he polished his gauntlet until it shone with a mirrored gleam.
Equip 2
Reserved: Gauntlet, Vigilance, Gorgon
Orginally wanted it to be a shield in reference to the Greek myth, but that wasn't an option. Anyway, I feel the gauntlet gives it some character, and I prefer the idea of the hero coming up with the idea himself than getting it handed to him on a silver platter by a goddess.
Lance of the Elder Scales2GW
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +3/+0 and has trample
At the beginning of each end step, if you have 7 or less life, unattach ~. It becomes a 7/7 Wurm creature with lifelink
Equip 2
Lance of the Elder Scales2GW
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +3/+0 and has lifelink
At the beginning of each end step, if you gained 7 or more life this turn, unattach ~. It becomes a 7/7 Wurm creature with trample
Equip 2
Lifelink has already been used. Please adjust your entry.
Cape of Phyrexia's Bane4
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +1/+2 and has protection from creatures with Infect. Metalcraft - As long as you control three or more artifacts, equipped creature has "2, T: This creature deals 3 damage to target creature. If target creature is a Praetor, destroy that creature instead."
Equip 3
Please judge the 5 that appear after you on the list. If you reach the end of the list, wrap around to the start. After you judge, pick a top 3. Judgin will be due Sunday, November 23rd by Midnight US EST. Thanks so much for playing, hope you're having fun!
greggbot:
Haha, there are two legendary Minotaurs at the moment. Fun card, simple synergy, maybe a little expensive.
NVRBLND:
Why does the equipment tap? This is pretty good (well, not in 60-card) since you can just use it like an artifact that counters spells. I'm really not feeling the Equipment pat of the card.
Cythare:
Clean design, sensible effect. Only problem is you forgot the Equip ability...
Atogaholic:
Ohhh man that's really cool. I feel like it might be flavourfully better if it triggered on killing stuff, but this is a flavourful and exciting card.
Oculus:
Flavourful and decently strong. Reminds me of Razor Boomerang but not awful.
Top 3:
1. Atogaholic
2. Oculus
3. greggbot

Jimmy Groove - Feels neither mythic nor legendary. It looks like flying was accidentally left in from the Spirit part (if not, it makes zero sense). Nice flavor, but could use a serious powerup.
Dimitriye98 - Adorable, but could easily be a non-legendary uncommon.
GraveTitan15 - Still doesn't fit the challenge (Wurm has lifelink). Cute design though. Don't know if I'd have made it colored, although that's heavily context-dependent.
AliasBot - Weak for a mythic legendary artifact. Too narrow to be interesting.
SelesnyaNewLife - Global enchantment tacked onto an Equipment doesn't make much sense. Doesn't really fit being legendary.
GraveTitan15 - Still doesn't fit the challenge (Wurm has lifelink). Cute design though. Don't know if I'd have made it colored, although that's heavily context-dependent.
Just for the record, I feel that it doesn't break the rules of the challenge persay since it doesn't grant lifelink, it becomes a creature with one. It's a bit of a loophole, But in the spirit of Round 4, which will force you all to abuse loopholes like crazy, I thinks it's ok.
Feel free to disagree but as the host moderating these challenges I just wanted to state that I was aware of what the card did and allowed it intentionally after the initial edits
GraveTitan15 made.
Oculus - I think it is pretty pushed but it is also fun and flavorful.
Jimmy Groove - Non-god sounds weird and flying zombies, while funny, don't really make sense. I think this could be an enchantment-artifact since it's a weapon used by gods. It would be cool if it had some mana symbols to use for devotion and synergize with its own effect.
Dimitriye98 - Flavor is really awesome, although it does seem narrow. I'm going to assume its designed for a set with lots of gorgons in it. I don't really think it needs to be mythic.
GraveTitan15 - Fun flavor, it might be a little strong with such a low equip cost. The card would make more sense if lifelink and trample were flipped.
AliasBot - How does a cape make praetors explode? I guess this works but its not as interesting or flavorful as the other entries.
Considering I don't want to disqualify over half the players for the round, I am extending judging till midnight US EST standard time TONIGHT. That gives about 15 hours as of this post. After that, I WILL disqualify those who have not judged yet regardless of how many people that is.
Thank you very much for those of you that have posted on time, and I am sorry for the delay. Round 4 will be posted today shortly.
AliasBot: I like the idea of the card but the costs make it too expensive for a mythic. Even in an artifact deck side boarding against an infect deck I probably wouldn't play it.
SelesnyaNewLife: This is a solid equipment. Would work well in a lot of decks and I like that you can bypass the equip cost with a very Orzhov mechanic. Not sure why it gives hexproof color-wise though but the flavor is good.
Ninja Caterpie: Very nice. Flavor-wise it works very well. Cost is realistic but not too prohibitive. I would like for the spider tokens to have reach as well just as a little extra detail. Well done though
Greggbot: I like what you did with this. I don't see it getting much play in any sort of competitive format but in a Minotaur tribal deck it fits nicely.
NVRBLND: Pretty cool card. It all ties together pretty well with having to discard a spell, then getting protection from spells, then being able to counter spells. I think the equipment cost might be a little too high in combo with the counter cost. Also I think it should have to be attached to the creature to counter spells or have some mention of that. A little odd that you tap an equipment but it doesn't tie into whether or not it's unattached or what happens to the creature.
My top 3:
3. Greggbot
2. SelesnyaNewLife
1. Ninja Caterpie
Noooo, I can't believe I forgot the equip ability! It was going to be "Equip - Return a land you control to its owner's hand" to be in line with Moonfolk.
Judging and stuff.
Atogaholic - Seems strong. I might like this a little more if it put counters on the creature (so that you couldn't just equip it to a Rat and keep on swinging), and the fact that the rats also have deathtouch is a little overkill.
Oculus - I love everything about this.
Jimmy Groove - The nonbo between the lifelink and the exile clause helps keep this thing in check, but the 2/2 black flying Zombies is a little weird.
Dimitriye98 - This is cool, but the Gorgon clause is basically trinket text, and the other part doesn't feel mythic at all.
GraveTitan15 - This is probably too strong. Becoming a 10/7 lifelink/trample when you're at 7 or less life is going to keep you in the game for an absurd amount of time.
Cythare: I like this, its a good build around equipment that would be powerful in certain decks but requires a lot of build around to be good. The flying feels tacked on but meets the requirements so its ok.
Atogaholic: Love the flavor of this. It seems pretty strong as being able to repeatedly clog the battlefield with deathtouchers is effectively game over for creature decks. I think the tokens should be sacrificed at the end of the turn, I like the idea though.
Oculus: Strong flavor and powerful but well balanced abilities. The way it can be "thrown" at the opponent is very cool.
Jimmy Groove: An interesting interpretation of Athreos staff. This card has a lot going on and feels a little clunky, but all the abilities are in color.
Dimitrye: I think this card is an example of sacrificing playability for flavor. The flavor is great and against Gorgon decks it would be good, otherwise it is just an overcosted stat booster. It is a little too narrow, though the flavor is very well done.
Gravetitan: Very fun, and potentially powerful card. The callout to Elderscale Wurm is cool and this is an interesting take on equipment.
