Welcome to the eighth season of Design Idol! Who will it be this season? Only time and your votes will tell
The rules.
1: Have Fun!!!
2: Each round, except round 1 (signup round), will have a theme, and the contestants will design cards to match that theme.
3. Players may submit a new, original card, or any card[s] they have created, so long as they are the players own original design and the card[s] meet the challenge requirements. Last word on meeting these requirements and any penalties is up to the hosts.
4: Each round will have 4 days to submit cards and 3 days to to vote for the cards.
5: Judging is only done by poll and the player with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated. Voting will be public and open to the general public. You may vote for as many, or as few cards as you like (including yourself if you want). The host(s) have final say on the validity of a vote in the case of questionable votes.
6: Any player that doesn't submit a card for any reason will be eliminated.
7: If a player submits a card or cards that does not meet the challenge requirements, that player may receive a DQ and be eliminated. If possible, the player in question will be notified to try and correct the problem before the end of the round. If the mistake is not corrected or is not caught until after the voting has begun, then the hosts will decide if a DQ will be assigned.
8: If there's a tie for the lowest vote total, all those people get to stay in the game but they get a next to their name. Anybody who already had a :symb:, however, is out. Players that get a will keep it until he or she is eliminated or we reach the Top 7 bracket.
Anybody with three or less votes in a single round will also receive a :symb:. Similar rules apply.
9: The game will continue until we have a single champion... our Design Idol.
10: If the winner of the last Design Idol returns to defend his or her title (he or she must now sign-up like everyone else), he or she will earn a beside his or her name. This means if he or she would earn a for a round, the falls off instead. Or, if that player would face single elimination, the will convert into a :symb:. If the goes unused by the time we reach the Top 7 Bracket, it will fall off.
11: The Top 4 of the last Design Idol get the right to "shotgun" a place on the new season. The same is true for hosts, only they get shotgun rights for two seasons. (So any hosts of Season VI can shotgun in VII and VIII). They still have to create a card for the first round, however.
MOON-E, Aponomikon, and BlackBull did not have a card submitted in time, which means elimination. Also, CrimsonCrossfire submitted a card that did not meet the round requirements, which normally would mean elimination, but since I did not catch it, there will be a guaranteed for this round. Thanks for playing!
Challenge for Round 2:
Design a monogreen creature that does not interact with lands or mana. For instance: no landwalk, no mana accel, no p/t based on lands or mana. Mana-activated abilities are ok (i.e. "1G: ~ gets +1/+1" or similar), but no direct interaction (i.e. Omnath).
The number of total votes over the season will be kept track of this year, and the contestant list will be ordered by the total number of cumulative votes. They have no effect on round-to-round eliminations or assignment. They will be used only in the case of a tie for last in the Top 7, when and drop off.

I am afraid that it does Crimson, I did not catch it or I would have said something the other day.
Zsehaelax, I will change the post, and if anyone wants to vote for the changed card please post here.
I asked this last season, and I guess I should again. Please do not post extraneous info/cards/etc with your submission. I have about 20 minutes in which to make the post and poll before work in the morning, and things like this can happen without the submission being clean and clear.
Asrama: I think your card is deceptively well designed. Barter is a very interesting mechanic (though not one I'd consider particularly green). I really love how the first clause prevents this from being "3G: cast any creature in your hand, your opponent gets a 1/3." It also is very nice in that I think it would appeal to Timmy, Johnny, and Spike.
Morguloth: Players don't attack...
JimmyGrove: "looses" is not a word. It should be "loses". Also, a trampling spider? I mean, I'm guessing it's huge, but I'm not sure spiders should get trample.
Starling: Very nice making an anti-Trinket Mage that was more interesting than "destroy target artifact with CMC 1 or less". Really nice design (and it's an Ouphe!)
Zsehaelax: Snake Ninja made me laugh. Also, the ability fits better on a crafty snake ninja than it did on Panglacial Wurm.
hoyerhan: Ignoring the bottomless pit of rules questions/issues this creatures, abilities like this really aren't green. Game resets have traditionally been blue (Sway of the Stars for example).
I have been thinking, that since I posted the wrong card for Z originally, and the majority of the votes occured before I fixed it, that he should not be docked this round since it was my mistake. Does anyone have an objection to such?
Thank you very much everybody.
My snake ninja ninjutsu'd from the camo'd goblin, it was flavorful to me at least.
I voted for GM who easily made the best card this round.
Myself, asrama, bomscriba, wharf for making good cards.
hoyerhan, because i liked your card but try to make cards that don't just belong in silver border land from now on.
summonlegend, ohmusama, and surging chaos: I voted for each of you because i generally liked your cards and I think that each has room for development ouside of this vacuum.

Because she's the hero standard deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll chase her... because she can take it... because she's not a hero... she's a silent guardian
I am putting a LOT of thought into this round. It seemed at first an easy challenge. Some didn't put much thought into their designs. Others rushed their submissions and made simple design errors. I found spelling errors and grammar errors that Wizards wouldn't print. Lots of things making this round interesting, I will get my votes and critiques up after work in 6-8 hours.
I'm starting with the cards that I HAD to vote for:
GM; This is "the most" green card here. Obviously the number one spot this round.
Starling; Ouphe love :fist pound: IMHO the runner-up
Krey; Green creature, sharing counters and life gain, it could have cost less or been bigger or even may for the abilities, but it is perfectly green in every way.
Bom; I like you - you're sexy.
Z; I like you - you look like me, also, I helped design this with you. Sneaky goblins.
Ohdaisy!; growing is green and basing it on having more buddies waiting to join the fight is totes green.
Dice; huge green smiley face
Hoyerhan; as I said, it is very interesting. It needs work, perhaps even a silver border, but I think you really improved on your first submission.
Also, I just lost the game.
Eternal Djinn5GGG
Creature - Djinn (rarity - I propose mythic)
Trample
Whenever you would lose the game, instead exile Eternal Djinn. If you do, the current game ends in a draw and all players play a new MAGIC game. The turn player chooses who plays first in the new game. (Each player shuffles all cards he or she owns that are in the current game into his or her library and a new MAGIC game begins.) Only the fortunate are granted a second chance. Use it well.
6/6
Design problems extravaganza!!!
Whar; Treefolk Ancestor is a very blah name for a legend. The flavour text should have "Gilt" as that is the proper M:tG place. Other than that, though, it is a solid card.
Morg; Players don't attack you, they declare attack. I thought Ragnor might need a class, that is subject to debate, but otherwise he is the essence of green.
SumLeg; missing its card type, I assume it is a Creature - Elf Druid?
Jimmy; it is hard to track what looses anything. As pointed out above, lose would work. Otherwise, it is an average uncommon(?) 5cmc 3/5 reaching spider. I'd like to see it target fallers instead of mass-fall and have more interaction with dragons on its own, but it works.
Kram; this mage is almost strictly better than tolsimir wolfblood, but mage is not a creature type. Druid, shaman, or Wizard would have sufficed.
Blue; It may perfectly be countered, by state based effects. You need to add "by spells or abilities" to both counter abilities. Other than this oversight, the card is golden.
These designers did not meet my expectations for green:
Jeroen; as my brother pointed out, it's been 'tried' before. That should not discount the fact that it is a blueish card.
Asrama; the card is sick nasty, but the ability is completely red
Deus; too much for a cmc1 common. I am not saying that a 1/3 defender is too much. Being able to become a 4/3 trampler is. Baneslayer Angel power-creep is no fun, even with Garruk's impending two-drop.
Ohmusama; shades are black. Sorry buddy.
Surgingchaos; just because it wants to eat baneslayer angel does not justify it's mythic mana cost to power and toughness ratio. It is a wonderful concept, but this is absurd power creep.
ImpKnow; a little too wordy and strong to be uncommon. It has abilities of multiple cards often deemed rare.
FSI; The wurm is golden for an uncommon for its p/t and mana cost. The exiling ability is black and screams uncommon1, at least.
mcz87; many errors. Here is what I would have done to increase the font and de-clutter the text box. Also, shorten the name... you'll understand why cards that refer to their name are usually legends with a first name (example: mcz87, Man of the Wilderness)
Man of the Wilderness :3mana::symg::symg::symg: Creature - Human Warrior (R)
Cardname can block any number of additional non-Human creatures.
Whenever Cardname blocks a non-Human creature, put a +1/+1 counter on the first creature/Cardname.
Whenever Cardname becomes blocked by a non-Human creature, Cardname gains trample until end of turn.

This thread is for competitive decks only. Your deck is not Grixis Control, as you said yourself. A serious decklist with shroud and counterspells belongs here, not a for fun/casual decklist with bad discard. Sorry, but your princess is in another castle.
Not a ton of close calls this round. I'm a little surprised by the relative lack of love for Summon_legend's design, which is a simple yet deceptively powerful ability to stick on a green quasi-bear (with great flavor text to boot). I also liked Krey's design a lot better than most, it seems: the abilities, while not directly synergistic, are both very green, and the result is a neat little niche card and limited underdog powerhouse.
I couldn't bring myself to vote for Asrama's card because I really don't think the ability needs keywording, and because it feels impossible to gauge how powerful it would end up being. Jimmy Groove's card fell into a similar category for me: it bothered me that the spider didn't have Reach proper, and the power level was tough for me to gauge.
Finally, really not feeling all the love for DeusofCalamity's card: a 1/3 Defender for in green is completely out of flavor for green, especially at common. This needs to cost at least :2mana::symg:.
Blue; It may perfectly be countered, by state based effects. You need to add "by spells or abilities" to both counter abilities. Other than this oversight, the card is golden.
Just to nit-pick a bit - this is incorrect. Creature spells can never be countered by state based effects, so abilities that make creature spells uncounterable do not require the "by spells or abilities" language. The only spells that need that language are spells which have a target that may no longer exist upon resolution, which will make the game rules counter it.
Side note, I'm not sure why the "by spells or abilities" language is on Insist...there is no way (presently) for a creature spell to be countered by something other than a spell or ability, so the language is completely redundant.

I didn't mean state-based effects, I meant game states, etc. Thanks

On a similar topic, most people don't like most cards this round. Its going to be quite exciting to see so many black marks handed in a round!

Whenever you would lose the game, instead exile Eternal Djinn. If you do, the current game ends in a draw and all players play a new MAGIC game. The turn player chooses who plays first in the new game. (Each player shuffles all cards he or she owns that are in the current game into his or her library and a new MAGIC game begins.)
Only the fortunate are granted a second chance. Use it well.

Man of the Wilderness :3mana::symg::symg::symg:
Creature - Human Warrior (R)
Cardname can block any number of additional non-Human creatures.
Whenever Cardname blocks a non-Human creature, put a +1/+1 counter on the first creature/Cardname.
Whenever Cardname becomes blocked by a non-Human creature, Cardname gains trample until end of turn.

Examples:
Creatures: Gaea's Herald, Great Sable Stag
Targetted Spells: Banefire, Last Word
Untargetted Spells: Volcanic Fallout, Obliterate
Side note, I'm not sure why the "by spells or abilities" language is on Insist...there is no way (presently) for a creature spell to be countered by something other than a spell or ability, so the language is completely redundant.
I didn't mean state-based effects, I meant game states, etc. Thanks
