In this competiton we will slowly make a set between us all. Each other day a new task will be set, obviously relevant to completing the set.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last Round: Vote for the best uncommon fortification!
Due to a mixup, both Alabran's and seratonin's cards are not featured in the poll. If you wish to vote for either of them, please say so in your post. Apologies for this!
Pit Bunker 3
Artifact - Fortification U
Whenever Pit Bunker becomes attached to a land, that land's controller chooses a creature he or she controls. That creature gets +0/+2 and has defender as long as Pit Bunker remains attached. W: Attach Pit Bunker to target land.
Note: Memory issues. This might work better as an equipment.
Archery Range2
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortified land is a Plains.
Fortified land has "1W: Archery Range deals 1 damage to target attacking or blocking creature."
Fortify 2
Stronghold of Nonexistance2
Artifact - Fortification U
Whenever fortified land is tapped, you may return target creature to its owner's hand and unattach Stronghold of Nonexistance from fortified land.
Fortify 3
Note: Wording should probably be "becomes tapped" or "is tapped for mana."
Kaemirian Garison2
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortified land is a 2/2 white soldier creature.
Fortified land gets +1/+1 as long as you control a Plains.
Fortified land has flying as long as you control an Island.
Fortify 2
Pavilion of the Legion2
Artifact - Fortification U
When fortified land is tapped for mana, creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. If the fortified land is a Plains, creatures you control gain lifelink until end of turn.
Fortify 3(3: Attach to target land you control. Fortify only as a sorcery. This card comes into play unattached and stays in play if the land leaves play.)
Saproling Fortification 1
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortified land is indestructible as long as you control a Saproling.
Fortified land has "G,T: Put a 1/1 green Saproling creature token into play."
Fortify 1
Wooden Walls
Artifact - Fortification U
:1mana::symg:: Fortified land becomes an X/X green Elemental Creature until end of turn, where X is the number of Fortifications you control. It's still a land.
Fortify :2mana::symg:
Cloaking Tower1
Artifact - Fortification U
As long as Cloaking Tower is attached to a land, attacking creatures you control have shroud.
Unattach Cloaking Tower: Permanents you control gain shroud until end of turn.
Fortify 4 "Better to shoot an arrow at a Xyanthian cottage." --Expression for a task that is sure to fail
Cardname3
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortified land has "G, T, Unattach Cardname: Target creature gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is its power."
Fortify 3
Sigil of Secrets2
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortified land has ":symtap:: Add UB to your mana pool."
Fortify 0 When the Sigil of Secrets reveals itself on the lands, it only shows mystery and darkness.
Treetop Camp4
Artifact - Fortification U
Treetop Camp can only fortify a land you don't control.
Whenever fortified land is tapped for mana, Treetop Camp deals 2 damage to target creature with flying.
Fortify GG "The hunters of Marvindul set a camp near the griffin barracks, so they could be closer to their target."
Note: From the comprehensive rules: "502.65a Fortify is an activated ability of Fortification cards. 'Fortify [cost]' means '[Cost]: Attach this Fortification to target land you control. Play this ability only any time you could play a sorcery.'" You can't fortify enemy lands, meaning that this card can never attach itself to something.
It should also be renamed to avoid confusion with the common Wood Camp cycle.
Mobile Observatory
Artifact — Fortification U
Whenever you play a spell, you may put a build counter on Mobile Observatory.
Remove a build counter from Mobile Observatory: Attach Mobile Observatory to target land you control.
Fortified land has “T: Look at the top card of your library. You may put it on bottom of your library.”
Dangerous Grind-Mill 1
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortify: 1 1: If Dangerous Grind-Mill is attached to a land, tap it. If you do, and add RGW to Dangerous Grind-Mill controller's mana pool. Any player may play this ability, but only during their turns.
Note: Would be better worded as ",T: Add RGW to your mana pool. Any player may play this ability but only during their turn and only if Dangerous Grind-Mill is attached to a land.
Farmstead3
Artifact - Fortification U
Fortified land has "T: Add W to your mana pool."
If fortified land is a Plains, it has "T: Add WWW to your mana pool."
Fortify 1
Reflecting Garrison
Artifact - Fortification U
:symtap:: Add one mana to your mana pol of any color that fortified land could produce.
Fortify
Note from Seeonee: Not part of a cycle, but I don't think we necessarily need another cycle, so I'm okay with that. If it becomes an issue later, it can be discussed.
This Round: Design Challenge: Create a common creature with experience that gains static abilities as it gains experience counters.
-See the sample card for the general idea.
-It MUST fit comfortably in the textbox. Use Magic Set Editor if necessary to confirm readability. Remember that you must include reminder text!
-It CAN be green, but must be different from existing green experience creatures.
-It cannot step on the toes of other cards in the set.
White Creature :2mana::symw:
Creature - Fluffy Kitty C
Experience 1 (Whenever this creature deals combat damage, put an experience counter on it.)
White Creature gets +1/+1 and has first strike as long as it has an experience counter on it.
White Creature gets +1/+1 and has lifelink as long as it has three or more experience counters on it.
2/2

Discussion:
1. In this thread you can also discuss the submissions for the current round and the cards that are up for voting.
2. Any other subject or issue should be discussed in the rules/discussion thread, here.
Arezian Battlemason2U
Creature - Human Artificer - C
Experience 1 (When this creature deals combat damage to a player, put an experience counter on it.)
Fortify costs you play cost 1 less to play for each experience counter on Arezian Battlemason. "Every battlefield has some architecture yet to be perfected."

I was included in the card list, but not the poll.
Lupine Channeler - G Creature - Human Shaman
Experience 1

Kaemiran Hoplite WW
Creature--Human Soldier [c]
First strike, experience 1
As long as there are 3 or more experience counters on ~, it gets +1/+1 and has lifelink.

Inkspewer MerfolkB
Creature - Merfolk Shaman
Experience 2
Each opponent's maximum handsize is reduced by the number of experience counters on Inkspewer Merfolk.
1/1
Does this count as a static ability that you're looking for?
@Seeone: You have to include 'or more' if you wanna get the bonus with more than 3 counters. Otherwise, it will only get +1/+1 and have lifelink if it has EXACTLY 3 counters on it. (And I suppose you don't want it..ok maybe it has some design space, but in the given example, I think the 'more' is much more elegant.)

Thought of the Month: I gave up from trying to require the 'i' on my name: SolesticIo
Wait. My card isn't in the poll. It's in the entries, though.
Lainaran Marksman 2W
Creature-Human Archer {C}
Experience 1 (When this creature deals combat damage, put an experience counter on it.)
As long as Lainaran Marksman has 3 or more experience counters on it, it has "W,T: Lainaran Marksman deals damage to target attacking or blocking creature equal to the number of experience counters on Lainaran Marksman."
2/2
Mistbound Griffin2U
Creature - Griffin
Flying, Experience 1
As long as there are two or more experience counter on Mistbound Griffin, it gains shroud.
Remove one experience counter from Mistbound Griffin: Return Mistbound Griffin to its owner's hand.

"Those who endure in the face of suffering, those whose faith shines long in evil days, they shall see salvation." -Song of All, canto 904
Avelion Mind-Shaped1U
Creature - Merfolk Wizard (shapeshifter?) (C)
Experience 1
As long as Avelion Mind-Shaped has experience couters on it, it's an X/X, were X is the number of experience counters on it
1/1
Also, as an aside, you didn't show voters, so we'll have to play it by ear and hope everyone who posted voted.
I swear I hit the checkbox to make votes public, but what concerns me even more is the people who got left out of the poll. I was keeping track of who'd submitted cards in a notepad file as I pasted them into the main thread, and some of them must have gotten looked over. My sincere apologies, I know how much it sucks to be left out after you submit a good idea.
I finished defending myself, said "Hmm, is there any more research I can do?" and did a Gatherer search that included some threshold cards. Wham, argument destroyed. It does have to say "or more." </sigh>
For historic purposes, here's the argument I had typed out and was all ready to submit:
Read the rulings for Thunderblust. What caught my eye is the wording for this section: "If Thunderblust loses its -1/-1 counters before combat damage resolves, ..." This means that (obviously) Thunderblust's ability works no matter how many -1/-1 counters are on it.
Now think about how abilities like graft are worded. If something has graft 1, it says "This comes into play with a +1/+1 counter." Graft 2 says "This comes into play with two +1/+1 counters." My point is that they use a/an in place of "one."
The reason I think this is relevant is that it means Thunderblust's ability is functionally equivalent to "Thunderblust has trample as long as it has one -1/-1 counter on it," which is different than "as long as it has exactly one -1/-1 counter on it."
So my extension of that logic is that "as long as it has three experience counters on it" is identical to "as long as it has three or more." After all, if you have four, you also have three. If you had the ability only when exactly three counters were on it, I think it would have to say that specifically.
Um, Solesticio's card is strictly worse than Pleasure Garden, which is a common. And it currently isn't worded to grant the ability to the land, which it should, being a fortification.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
@Seeonee: You could alternatively set up a make-up poll in the Testing Grounds and tell people to cast their vote there (just link them). It's a bit of a stretch since it creates a load of work for the next round-poster, but it'll let us fix the whole "I forgot to put you in the thread" or "Damn, who voted for who?" problems.
Molting Arachnea2G
Creature — Spider C
Experience 1 (Whenever this creature deals combat damage, put an experience counter on it.)
Molting Arachnea gets +1/+1 and has reach as long as it has an experience counter on it.
Molting Arachnea gets +0/+3 and has deathtouch as long as it has three or more experience counters on it.
1/3
Depending on the outcome of this round's poll, I'm thinking we might be better off reposting it next round so that we can attribute votes and resolve any ties.
Lilenor Berserker2R
Creature - Minotaur Warrior C
Experience 1
Lilenor Berserker gets +2/+2 and can't block as long as there are two or more experience counters on it.
2/2
Btw, everyone, the task is to create a COMMON creature... Be mindful of rarity.
And for the next round, might as well just post a tie breaker for however many cards actually tie...
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Skygrazer Griffin2W
Creature - Griffin (c)
Flying, Experience 1. t: Gain 1 life for each experience counter on ~.
As long as there are 3 or more experience counters on ~, it has vigilance.
2/1
Greathorn Brawler3R
Creature - Minotaur Warrior C
Experience 1 (Whenever this creature deals combat damage, put an experience counter on it.)
Greathorn Brawler has first strike as long as it has at least one experience counter on it. He's got that fight you were looking for.
3/3
Um, Solesticio's card is strictly worse than Pleasure Garden, which is a common. And it currently isn't worded to grant the ability to the land, which it should, being a fortification.
That's why its ability is not granted to the land. I was trying to make a mana accelerator, but that would depend from attached land. Indeed, what you say doesn't make much sense...why should the land read "Add a mana I can produce"? ok, you could have a vivid add any color without removing counters, but my idea was the fortification itself add mana

If you had the ability only when exactly three counters were on it, I think it would have to say that specifically.
Ok maybe you are right, but I think they didn't put 'or more' on Thunderblust because, except some occasions, it can't have 2 -1/-1 counters.
But as you say, if you have 4, you have 3 too...Although I've seen always 'or more', I don't know if because it has to be there, if just for elegance and be easier to get the idea.
Finally, I found a card to solve the mystery: Blowfly Infestation.
It says:
Quote from Blowfly Infestation »
Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from play, if it had a -1/-1 counter on it, put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.
So if a 2/2 creature dies, because it had 2 or more -1/-1 counters on it, will the Infestation ignore that trigger altogether? No it won't.
Because the oracle tells us:
Quote from Oracle 2008. 05. 01. »
When Blowfly Infestation's ability resolves, it will put a single -1/-1 counter on the targeted creature. It doesn't matter how many -1/-1 counters were on the creature that went to a graveyard as long as it had at least one on it.
So a creature that has a counter, means it has one or more counters on it.
I agree that "one counter" can be read as "exactly one counter", but "a counter" is always "one or more counters".
That's why its ability is not granted to the land. I was trying to make a mana accelerator, but that would depend from attached land. Indeed, what you say doesn't make much sense...why should the land read "Add a mana I can produce"? ok, you could have a vivid add any color without removing counters, but my idea was the fortification itself add mana.
Then you just made a normal artifact, not a fotification. Fortifications need to grant abilities to lands.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Then you just made a normal artifact, not a fotification. Fortifications need to grant abilities to lands.
Why?? We have only seen one fortification in all magic history, and nowhere is said it has to grant abilities to the lands. Beside that, how would you make my card 'look' for only one land?

Whirlwind Griffin - 2WW

Whirlwind Griffin has Vigilance as long as there is one 1 Experience counter on it.

I've got tons of art from the web. Want art for a render? PM me! Want to create your own collection? Start here!
I swear I hit the checkbox to make votes public, but what concerns me even more is the people who got left out of the poll. Depending on the outcome of this round's poll, I'm thinking we might be better off reposting it next round so that we can attribute votes and resolve any ties.

Lilenor Berserker gets +2/+2 and can't block as long as there are two or more experience counters on it.

Btw, everyone, the task is to create a COMMON creature... Be mindful of rarity.
And for the next round, might as well just post a tie breaker for however many cards actually tie...

It says: So if a 2/2 creature dies, because it had 2 or more -1/-1 counters on it, will the Infestation ignore that trigger altogether? No it won't.
Because the oracle tells us:
So a creature that has a counter, means it has one or more counters on it.
I agree that "one counter" can be read as "exactly one counter", but "a counter" is always "one or more counters".

Then you just made a normal artifact, not a fotification. Fortifications need to grant abilities to lands.

Why?? We have only seen one fortification in all magic history, and nowhere is said it has to grant abilities to the lands. Beside that, how would you make my card 'look' for only one land?
