Did someone already had any succes with this instant reanimator card in the cube?
I saw this one in the MTGO Holiday Cube few days ago and I was wandering at what size this card could be add. MTGO cube is a 540, but I don't it fit in well at that size. I think you need to squeeze it up a bit, like run a 450 or 360, to actually manage to use it properly. As I see it, the more your cube gets larger, the more this card seems to get poor. I think it's true because the lethal targets you can use with it are limited and in a largem cube, you have less chance to find one and manage to include Shallow Grave in your 23. But the Eldrazis could love it in a 360 I think.
I lost to this one or two times in the holiday cube, but that was because it brought back griselbrand; with many if not all other creatures that didn't draw 7 or 14 cards, it always seemed pretty bad to only hit once. Plus if you're not a strictly-reanimator deck--as in, recurring nightmare deck or decks using the reanimation spells more for value--then this is a lot worse since you can't control it.
They're oddball cards because they're out of place in the kinds of decks we play that cheat big monsters. It's not permanent enough to enable reanimator decks, and it requires different enablers than Sneak/Show decks. They're effects that just don't have a solid home in my cube, based on the way we sculpt those archetypes.
Both necromancers have nothing to do with powerlevel of that card. Doomed Necromancer doesn't give haste to your target and is damn slow. Apprentice Necromancer do the trick but need to survive a whole turn in order to do it. Corpse Dance looks like the one that is pretty close. Slower, more restrictive, but with upside. Mannequin is great but is a totally different piece of card. Same as Dread Return.
Shallow Grave could shine in a tight unfair environment IMO. Blightsteel Colossus, Griselbrand and Eldrazis are just so great with it.
Oh you're totally right. It's the when wording that makes it possible for the Eldrazis. Colossus has a if and a instead. Never played instant reanimator sorry. And rarely Blightsteel Colossus does have to go into the graveyard in my cube. He just can't... So sad for him.
Well for starters, my cube is enormous, and I'm also playing Corpse Dance.
Really what changed is supporting the Eldrazi super-titans. If you're gonna play cards like Emrakul, the Aeon's Torn, you need to play as many ways as you can to get it onto the battlefield in a 720-card cube.
I find subsequent uses for Grave/Dance in other shells, but that's the primary function.
I'm going to re-visit Shallow Grave / Coprse Dance. I've reached a good critical mass of non-creature discard outlets that makes Oath of Druids / Reanimator hybrids much easier to pull off these days, not to mention Unamrked Grave, the resurgence of Flash, and the new critical mass of super fatties as payoffs. These are also a great followup to Flash that makes for a good one-two punch.

I think they're good. My experience is Reanimator decks need to consistent reanimate a target on turns 3-4 in order to be competitive. However, Breach/ Shallow grave can be slotted into a midrange/ control deck as like a combo finish here the deck can play like 2 eldrazi/ 2 sneak attack/ shallow grave effects and can setup a late game combo finish.
I've found you cannot really do this with reanimate as the setup/ payoff isn't really worth it.

I've found the opposite to be true. I've seen a lot more value Reanimate / Animate Dead in midrange / control decks lately for a lot of reasons:
- MH2 elementals.
- Increased number of discard outlets.
- Great hate card against cheaty face / reanimator decks which has been rising a lot more in popularity due to Flash / Atraxa.
A big reason reanimate/animate dead are good in midrange decks is they can reanimate your opponents creatures in addition to your own.
getting back a 3 mana creature for 1 mana and some life is still a great rate. A couple 6 mana creatures, some utility creatures and your opponents stuff is usually enough.
Never a card I've considered since we have 3-4 better options. Instant is nice, but you have to have things set up perfectly and it can go very wrong if you opponents fires off a kill-spell, mill effect or anything else that drops another creature into the yard. Even after all that, you can't use the instant to give it psudo-haste as it dies again at the end of turn

shallow grave can’t do that.
